Hi I had a sugar test when you drink a soda like drink
and they test your blood a half hour after, an hour after that, and then 2 hours after that. (Yes I was bored doing it).
Fast: 127 (morning)
Drank Drink
1/2 hours after: 240
1.5 hours after: 144
3.5 hours after: 123
I was told this shows my insulin resistance is not that high.
But that I'm definitely type II diabetic.
? But I thought Type II was insulin resistant.
Thoughts?

Wow, Lessara, I'm not sure how they came to the conclusions that they did looking at your test results. If your blood sugar is still above normal 3.5 hours after the test, that's not a good sign. I think they are basing the "you're definitely type 2" on your fasting glucose readings and the highest point reached (normal max is about 170).
The times they decided to blood draw are a bit odd also. Normally, samples are taken at fasting, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes and 120 minutes. If the test is a 6 hour one, samples are taken hourly after 2 hours.
Your spike at 30 minutes (they really didn't take a 60 minute reading or a 2 hour reading?) shows that your phase 1 insulin response is absent; typical of type 2. Your phase 2 insulin response doesn't appear to be all that effective, either since you were still above 120 at 3.5 hours and a 'normal' person would have been below 100 before the two hour mark.
How they come to the conclusion that you are 'not that insulin resistant', I can only guess. Did they draw insulin levels during the test? That is really the only reliable way to determine the level of insulin resistance.
One thing that might have influenced the results of your test: did you increase your carb intake for at least 3 consecutive days prior to the test or did you stay on low carb right up to the morning of the test?

I was low carbing before. I know its was wierd it was done by a nurse in my doctors office. And by blood test (finger).

I think they gave you the 'budget' glucose tolerance test. I've had a GTT twice; once when I was diagnosed and again during my first pregnancy. The blood was drawn in vials and not by finger-stick and it was done in a lab, not the doctor's office. From what I can find, they weren't following any type of protocol for timing of samples that I can locate.
Not eating higher carb for at least 3 days prior to the test can skew the results somewhat and, according to Dr. Atkins, a GTT can't be considered accurate if you don't.
You could ask for a repeat test and go higher carb (Dr. A recommends at least 150 grams a day for at least 3 days prior to the test), but I'm not sure that the price you would pay with higher blood sugars and just not feeling all that great would be worth the information repeating the test would give you; you'd have to decide that for yourself.

Really? ok I have to do this again in 2 months...
Incase you are wondering why all this, they are trying to convince me to try some diebetic pills that help make your cells
less resistant to insilin. I rather not and have said no.
I insist my diet can do more than those pills.
Sigh I hope I'm not wrong I just don't like taking all this meds.
