I wasnt sure where to put this, but thought it was interesting anyway.

I get alot of people who state that Dr Atkins died because of his own diet, but here is proof! Of course we all know it wasnt because of his diet, but hey, if they are looking for real proof, here it is :D

I think those at the pcrm have really pushed the 'atkins diet killed him' view. it's irresponsible and vulgar to use someone's death to push one's agenda but they seem to feel ok doing it.

What does criticism of the Atkins diet have to do with politics? Do you think the biggest criticizers of the Atkins Diet-Archer Daniels Midland, Con Agra, Big Pharma, and those who influence the FDA-are a bunch of screaming lefties? Think again. They're big businesses.

BTW Dr. Atkins gave a lot of money to Democrats. I hope that doesn't make you jump off the Atkins bandwagon. :D

And BTW who really gives a flying fig what anyone's politics are? We're here to discuss nutrition. :)

Why not keep politics out of it? For one thing, one of the persons who criticized Atkins the most before AND after his death was Dr. John McDougall who is a Seventh Day Adventist. I wouldn't in any sense consider him a "leftist!" Being that he graduated from Cornell, I imagine that Dr. Atkin's was probably left-leaning when it comes to politics. You are just spouting sour grapes because of the new winds of change.

We're here to talk about nutrition, diet, and exercise. The only way you can relate this to politics is to look at the backgrounds of those entities that are critical of the low carb diet (agribusiness and big pharma). These companies can hardly be classified as leftist or even liberal.

I never cared about anyones politics here, I do care that his diet has saved me from a lifetime of being unhealthy and uncomfortable, and having low self esteem, and being discriminated against and looked down upon, Bless you Dr. Atkins!

I think Dodger was refering to vegetarians and vegetarian organizations such as the PCRM. For some reason some people consider vegetarians "liberal" when in truth vegetarians cannot be categorized so neatly. Many conservative religions promote vegetarianism. Having said that I agree with all you have said. http://forum.lowcarber.org/images/icons/icon14.gif
