I’ve wondered if anyone has found Low Carbing beneficial in losing weight gained from a medical condition or prescribed medicines?
I am and always was a healthy eater but I have gained a lot of weight due to medical issues and taking a lot of medications such as high dose steroids.
My eating habits are not from over eating or bad food choices but mainly from past use of an abundance of prescribed medicines.

Hi Mimya,
Everyone will have a different experience. Sort of like snowflakes, no two are alike, but if you get info from enough experiences, just like you will recognize a snow flake when you see one, you'll know what is right for yourself after reading enough at this website.
LC dieting is my way of life (WOL) now. I am losing weight slowly because I am following the Groves diet "Eat Fat, Get Thin". I do switch to Atkins, phase I perhaps a day or so per week, but mostly prescribed to the regimen discussed in Groves book. I had weight gain from diabetes, meds and stuff.....
I have now discontinued 7 meds, 1 left to get rid of very soon now. I find that eating the LC way does something to the way your body responds to intake of energy. I don't have all the answers but I am seeing plenty of results which make me want to stay with this forever.
I found many medications were interfering with one another and some did cause weight gain while others stopped weight loss, etc... I am just glad that a change came about from my choosing to eat this way.
I hope you stick with this way of eating (WOE) and don't be afraid to experiment a bit, reducing & or increasing carbs, watch how your body responds and such. Give each change a few days to see if its working or not and don't change but one thing at a time so you can figure out what is working or not.

There's a recent fiery little thread near-by on the consequences of prednisone, LC, and weight gain; might have some resources that can help. This topic also frequently comes up on the Emotional Issues forum WRT anti-depressants and some of the other meds.

I'm with you! I have a thread somewhere on here labeled "prednisone" because of this very issue.
I've gained a LOT of weight due to two years of steroid use. I'm off steroids completely as of today and hope to stay off them for a while. I see my rheumatologist the 29th and hope he doesn't put me back on them.
I'm walking when I can, which isn't much these last few months, and low carbing (paleo) and hoping I'll start losing some.
It is frustrating and discouraging but we can't give up!

Thank you cs_carver, Cajunboy47 and Idrial,
I've been on steroids for about 4 years and they really have been a lifesaver. I recently had a bout of staph pneumonia and most likely will be on an extremely small dose of prednisone for life. I feel a tremendous difference since I am being weaned down.
Just this past year I went from a wheelchair, to a walker, to a cane and now I am begging to walk without a cane so I do see a progressive light at the end of the tunnel. It truly is frustrating and discouraging because health wise I am feeling so much better but my body will only move so far. I do as much as I can but don't push the issue yet until my body adjusts.
I'm starting weight and strength training this week with a therapist and I'm hoping that will relive my muscle & joints so I can walk as in an exercise routine.
I've always eaten healthy but now that I am battleing a weight problem things are a bit different. Come to read all the posts - I see I have been eating somewhat of a Low Carb diet already but now I have to step it up a knotch and go completly Low Carb.
Once again Thanks!
Mimya
