I have blown it again for the fiftieth time but am thankfully back on the wagon for the second day now. I have noticed the last week or so a sugary taste in my mouth and I seem to remember a friend of mine in the past saying that she had that symptom due to diabetes. Has anyone heard of this?

I have diabetes in my family and have had hypoglycemia in the past. That has always been my favorite part of L/C since I have no "fits" when I'm ON.

Thanks

Never heard of a sugary taste as a symptom of diabetes. I would get someone to at least test me with their glucose monitor to see what the results would be. If one parent is diabetic, you have 50% chance of getting diabetes and if both parents have diabetes you have 100% chance of getting it, unless you take appropriate measures immediately.

This is not a disease to be taken lightly. It sneaks up on you and it never goes away. There is control, but no cure. If you don't have it, feel you are at risk, take it very seriously and do something now. You cannot take what I am saying too seriously, you are forewarned!

Now, I hope its a false alarm. But, if you already know this is a healthier way to eat, then you have the answer you need. This is a great place for support. Good luck to you.

Symptoms can include rapid weigh loss without explanation, constant thirst (2 to 3 gallons of water a day and still thirsty), constant hunger, restless sleep & fatigue.....

Mieranna- If you are truly worried about being diabetic, go and see a doctor and get the tests done. The sooner you find out if you are, the sooner you can start doing something about it. If you aren't and know that diabetes runs in your family, then as Cajunboy says, you can take the appropriate measures to lessen your chances of getting it. Congrats on starting again. Remember you are doing this for your health and to ensure yourself a better future! You can do it!

Hi Mieranna!

If you click on this link (http://www.diabetes.org/diabetes-symptoms.jsp) it will take you to the ADA website and a listing of the most common symptoms of diabetes. The thing about symptoms is that people vary in which symptoms they experience. A person with diabetes may experience all...or none of the symptoms listed.
I second the advice given above to see your doctor for the appropriate screening tests if you have any concerns that you may be diabetic; the sooner you are diagnosed, the sooner you can focus on getting control and the less chance you have of developing serious problems as a result of undiagnosed diabetes.

If I remember correctly, Hyperglycemia ( high blood glucose) can come with a sweet odour to your breath. How are your BG numbers lately? Anything above 500 can put you at risk of diabetic coma, so please see a doctor if you don't have a means of testing your blood sugar.
