:help: Since I have lost this weight, I am cold. True I live in a cold climate, but I use to never get this cold. I guess I have gotten rid of a % of my fat layer. :D

Anyone else COLD?

Try coconut oil-- it makes me burn up, I can't take it in Summer. Another supplement that seems to help is Ginkgo Biloba, Mt. climbers take it to ward off frostnip.

coconut oil makes me feel very ill, I tried lots of different kinds and they all did not agree with me.

It is common for overweight people (that eat high glycemic diets) to be hot blooded and to sweat all the time.

Once you start losing - you usually change from being the hottest one in the group to one of the coldest in the group)

That explains it. BRRRRRRRR!

I guess I would rather be thin and cold than overweight and hot.

penguins, seals, polar bears--all those cold water animals are heavily insulated with fat. even long distance swimmers will put on more fat than people who don't swim, given similar diets.

Fat's one of the best insulators around.

Hmm...I thought it was just because of the colder weather, but now that you mention it, I have been very cold this year, especially my feet. I even had to get up last night to put some socks on to sleep! I didn't have this problem last year. I was the one always turning down the furnace.

Yup, I am cold most of the time. I've always gotten cold easily. But since losing the weight, it's much more pronounced. Glad you posted because I have wondered about this too.

When I was fat, I used to want the air con on in our office all the time and everyone would moan cos they were cold. Now I'm slim, I'm always cold and moaning about the others wanting the air con on all the time....

But, its easy to put more clothes on LOL!!!

I'm rarely cold. People keep asking me why I'm not cold in my sleeveless tops when they're freezing. I really believe it's in your metabolism and not how big your layer of fat is. I know a few people that have more body fat than me and they're cold all the time. After some weight loss, your body is running a bit slower (to conserve energy), thus you feel cold. You can get your metabolism cranking up again (therefore feel warmer) by eating higher calories but keep carbs very low so you don't gain weight.

I don't buy the "loss of insulation" theory, either. After losing almost 50 pounds eight years ago, I was freezing all of the time. I thought it was losing insulation but after maintaining for more than four years, I was still freezing. I wasn't that way before I gained weight and I was still cold after regaining about 20 of that 50 pounds. My body temperature was always in the 97 degree range.

About a month ago, I started supplementing with natural Vitamin A after learning how important it was. After a couple of weeks of supplementing with 30K - 40K IU, I noticed I was a lot warmer than before and was shocked when I had my temp taken while giving blood and had it come out at 98.6 (I never hit that unless I had a fever).

It turns that Vitamin A is critical for good thyroid function and the thyroid helps regulates body temp. If you decide to try it, make sure you only use natural Vitamin A from fish oil, not synthetic or beta carotene. I got a bottle of Vitamin A derived from fish oil in 10K IU doses for less than $2 for a bottle of 100 pills. It's dirt cheap. You can also take cod liver oil but, well - yuck. ;)

There are people that measure their body temperature every morning when they wake up and adjust their diet / exercise / supplements based on their body temp. I don't remember the details - but if you are interested - you can probably search around and find more info.

If you don't like the cold you may want to think about drink some whey protein powder. I use it as good source of protein but am now cutting back, mainly because it's increasing my body temperature quite signficantly.

How long have you been low carbing? I asked for after a few years of low carbing my hyprothryoid symptoms started and recently I found I do have hyprothryoidism.

I have been low carbing probably 6-8 months now. I just started using coconut oil in tea or cocoa, and I am all warmed up. Hopefully will notice weight loss too!! I am definately not hungry, although probably because I am nausious from the initial ingestion of it. blah!

Thanks!
