Good evening all !! I was diagnosed with type two diabetes one year ago when I was hospitalized with a blood sugar level of eight hundred. I was fourty seven years old, only thirty pounds overweight, but lived on two meals a day consisting of microwavable food and fast food along with a daily intake of a at least a twelve pack of Cola - not so uncommon in the U.S. today.
Blood tests revealed cholesterol levels - bad/190 - good/20.
I began treatment with daily insulin shots along with Avandia and Gluberide. I decided that I was going to beat this disease especially because of the possible complications. I had followed the 2000 calorie a day diet recommended by the ADA along with walking two miles a day and still seemed to struggle with sugar levels. I did some research on the internet and found other low carb diabetic diets - consisting mostly of seafood, whole grains, fresh fruit and lower carbs than recomended by the ADA. Happy to say that after six months of following a lower carb diet along with plenty of seafood and flax oil capluets
(Omega 3's) loosing thirty pounds by walking two miles a day and the introduction of cinammon gel caps daily - my blood sugar is at normal levels and I am off of all medication including the painfull insulin shots. Bad cholesterol down 100 points - Good up 40 points. I would recommend this for everyone - even if only for weight loss. Many say a low carb diabetic diet is healthiest for all.

I'm glad you found the light and now eating a healthy diet. Good for you

I'm also a diabetic - diet controlled / no meds. I thought I was eating a good diet until I was diagnosed with Diabetes.

I'm NOT a snack food junkie (cakes, cookies, candy, soda) or a fast food eater and NOT at all a microwave user. However, I was always a very big fruit and vegetable eater. It was an eye opener to learn natural fruit with all those vitamins and nutrients were bad for me  . I would eat a bushel of carrots or a crate of clementine oranges- now I learned both are full of sugar.

It's all a learning process to figure out the good, bad and ugly types of food but once you get the hang of it you will benefit health wise by your knowledge.

Good Luck! Nikki

The Painful insulin shots

It is so sad when this is stated by an insulin user. I find that the shots are painless and the lancet pricks much more annoying.

It is no wonder that doctors can threaten patients with insulin when others are talking about the "pain" of the injections. When given properly, you should feel NOTHING.

I was the biggest sissy in the world about shots until I realized I could give myself a painless one. I only use insulin for a short bit of time (ocassionally), but never hesitate to use this perfectly natural (no side effects) hormone to aide in my struggle with the crappy disease.

Nuff said.

YAY for you.

Besides controlling diabetes, and contributing to weight loss...I'll bet your brain is functioning better too and all of your "numbers" are improved.

I know mine are.

Good job; isn't great to feel healthy?
