Hello All:
I am SabbyKay, yet another Atkins follower who has been converted to South Beach. I have been reading this website for weeks and appreciate all your comments and imput. It has been most helpful.
I am having a struggle with snacks.
I know only one serving of nuts are allowed and if you have peanut butter then that satisfies the nut serving.
I have my nuts in the morning around 10 or 10:30 a.m. But it is the afternoon that gets me. I was wondering if I can have a can of tomato juice or V8 juice as a snack if I have other veggies at breakfast? Any other ideas for easy afternoon snacks that are easy to take to work?
Thanks so much!
SabbyKay

Hi SabbyKay! Of course you can have veggies or V8 as a snack! That's one thing that's drawing me into SB. Veggies are great and it's encouraged to eat them - anytime :) Have you checked out the stickies at the top of the forum? Judy put together food lists and directions on how to plan your meals for each phase of SB. There's some really good info there.

I just re-read your post and somehow I got "veggies" from V8! So sorry! But, you can still have V8 juice too. "Vegetable Juice Cocktail" is listed on the phase one foods list and there is nothing that says it's limited (from what I can tell). hmmmm "cocktail"....does that mean I can have a bloody mary too :) (LOL...just kidding)

Yes, of course you can have V8 as a snack.....I too, had to decide when I'd allow myself my nut allowance. I decided to save mine as my late night snack and had a portion of pistachios(30) in the shells at that time.
Have you seen our Updated food lists and meal plan charts thread? Another nice afternoon snack is hummus with celery...very tasty and filling!! :yum:

Other snack ideas:
* 1-2 hard boiled eggs
* vanilla or chocolate protein powder in yogurt with or without fruit.....woops, sorry, don't know if you're doign phase 1 or 2, but you can put protein powder in a shaker cup and just add water wherever you are (more tasty with milk, soy milk or yogurt, but still ok with water and fills you up)
* I agree: hummus or baba gannoush with veg is delicious and easy
* recently for speed, I'm bringing low fat cream cheese with raw veggies and that's good
* lunch meat and cheese
Basically, I almost always make sure that each snack has protein (unless I've just eaten a meal and want it more as dessert or really am not hungry).
Thanks for the nut tip, Judy; I usually have them a lot but can get out of control so starting freezing my nuts to have more occasionally. Didn't know that 30 pistachios is considered a serving!
Good luck!
