My 11 year old daughter has about 15lbs she could stand to lose. Keep in mind this is nothing I've pressured her about, I just don't do that to her, she already knows without me nagging her about it. She decided she wanted to do SB with me. I decided she should start on Phase 2 for a couple reasons. One, I don't think she needs to be that restricted, 2, I think she'll have a better chance of sticking with it if its not so restricted. I've even modified the Phase 2 for her a bit, she can have unlimited fruit, and a little more cereal(Heart Smart) than allowed, and wholegrain bread, which she only eats 2 or 3 pieces of a day anyway. Does this sound healthy to you? Basically we just cut out almost all the sugar. Any suggestions? Oh, and she's very healthy, no problems.

I am not in the "medical" profession. But sounds GREAT to me. I am sure just losing the sugar, and if you can, the processed junk, will be a HUGE help to her losing 15 pounds. I SO SO SO wish when I was a preteen and only had 15 pounds to lose, that my family would ahve started eating like this!
In fact, my 17 month old son eats mostly South Beach too (with the addition of some whole grain pasta, rice, and cereal) but he eats "healthy" cereal, there are no apple jacks in our house! He sometimes gets a "treat" if at daycare she has made cookies or something for snack, but I have gotten her pretty hooked on the "no sugar" thing too! YEA! I just hope and pray my child doesnt have to deal with all the food issues I have.

Sounds pretty good but I can't see why an 11 year old can't get her carbs from whole foods like winter squash, peas or carrots. You should probably be aware that the induction period is what helps to rid us of those carb cravings. Of course as her parent you must make the decisions. If I were guiding my 10 year old I would tell her to limit her grain carbs to one a day. And would advise her to skip the white stuff altogether. Hope she loves this woe and stays on it forever.

Yeah, the white and starchy stuff has been cut out. It helps to keep me on track knowing she's doing the same, but its also a little harder on me trying to help plan out her meals. She has good ideas, but I need to start packing her lunch. She has almost no choices at school. She's already lost a couple lbs, so she's still very motivated, and very happy!!
