However I feel like I am fighting an uphill battle backwards while hip deep in molasses.

I think I have tried every low carb plan on the planet and they all work for awhile, but then they stop working. I know that I am at least partly to blame, but I just can't seem to control my appetite. Also, the older I get the harder it is to lose weight. I went from a size 20 to a 24 in the last 2 months. Yikes! I am hypothyroid, but my Synthroid medication just doesn't seem to be working and my insurance will only pay for the kind I am taking.

Anyway, since I am no longer subscribing to one particular plan, I thought I would hang out here and try to get some tips and encouragment from others who have a lot of weight to lose.

Hey Fluffy!

Sorry to hear you're feeling glum about this.

Have you read the studies posted a while back that for people with thyroid problems, some times too low carb is as much of a problem as too high? It seems they were saying that for some people 40-50 carbs per day was a low as you should go.

I don't know if its thyroid related, but I certainly do better at those levels and looser is a little easier to stick to sometimes.

Try just sticking to low carb principles and not worrying too much and see if that helps.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having a difficult time of things.

Peeking at your journal, I noticed that you plan to exercise. Maybe that'll help get the scale moving.

No, I hadn't seen those studies. Do you have a web address link you could give me about it or tell me where I can find more information on this subject?

I had a regular exercise program for awhile and also tried to do Body for Life. Then we began to go out of down a lot and I got off my exercise schedule and began to gain weight. Now my joints ache whenever I try to exercise. I hope to begin exercising again after I lose a little more weight so it isn't so hard on my joints.

Hi fluffy...nice to see you in the TDC. I really hope that you find something that works for you. I know I have struggled with this issue in the past also. My mentalitly has kind of been changing though over time and it has become for me not so much about weight loss anymore (although I would welcome that with open arms) but more about health. I know that low carb eating controls my blood sugar, so I just keep plugging away at it. I know it can be frustrating when you want to see the results and you're working hard at it, but the scale doesn't budge.

hi fluffy!

I noticed you are on a high protein/lowcarb plan and wondered if you are eating too much protein?

I know people say that on Atkins (which is a highfat/medium protein/lowcarb plan) if we eat too much protein it turns to glucose (I think) and impedes weightloss.

Not off the top of my head, but links were posted right here on the boards in the Thyroid forum by NancyLC. I don't remember exactly when, but definitely in the last year, and it's not that busy a section.
