Here are some tips I have read on the internet and tweeked to add some of my suggestions and this is what I plan on using for my holiday/parties/family gatherings to keep me focused on my food plan:

1.Choose carefully what TYPE of parties you are going to attend with your WOE in mind so that you can be prepared to fit it into that day's eating plan. Then -
2.Commit to yourself how you are going to handle the party (Is this your carb up day or however it fits into your WOE)
3.Have a small high protein snack before leaving your house - never arrive hungry
4.When in line at the buffet - look over the food choices and then make your food choices in your head before serving yourself
5.Try to find a seat far from buffet tables, candy dishes, and cookie-laden platters.
6.When finished, excuse yourself from the dinner table if possible then divert your attention away from food by looking at the decorations, etc
7.Or if you cannot leave the table, keep your mouth busy by talking with friends and family and also chew gum to prevent any further eating.
8.If you're able to excuse yourself and brush your teeth; the taste of toothpaste dulls taste buds.
9.Limit Alcohol - dulls your ability to make wise food choices
10. Enjoy the party and the holidays and remember that looking healthy and fit is a choice and no food tastes as good as you look when you hit goal!

NOW - does anyone have some of their own great tips we can add? We can do this together!

Most of the parties we will attend are pot luck style or family gatherings. With that in mind I intend to bring gobs of lc foods starting with a big colorful veggie tray with dip. I may bring a giant pot of french onion soup. I will bring ham wraps and anything else I can think of the will be festive looking and tasting. Then there is no excuse for not eating on plan. Oh, I may bring a big salad with strawberries, walnuts and greens. Now that is a treat in the dead of winter!

I just got the follwing in an email from a pilates instructor that I have worked with.

I persoanlly think that it is very realistic to expect to not eat sugar!! I've done it and so can all of you!! What I do use is the "3 Bite Rule" when it is something that I just have to taste.

I like the other two alot.

1-Let go of unrealistic expectations around food and family. Face it, there will be a lot of food, especially sugar, around the holidays. If you experience serious highs and lows, monitor the sugar intake. Try and counter the imbalance with plenty of water and green vegetables. And beware - this is not the time to discuss hot bed family issues! Emotions are on high. Consider tabling the discussion until after the New Year.

2-Identify Allies. What family or friends are in your corner? This is truly the time to feel who best supports you in your healthy lifestyle. Calmness and happiness may be a few of the qualities you are searching for this season.

3-Take time each day to check in with yourself. How do I feel and what do I need? This is my favorite! As simple as it sounds, it is the single most powerful body-mind tool that will positively guide you in your holiday experience this year. This check in will keep you "on track" with health and compassion.
