I'm sitting here writing up a list of New Years goals for 2007. Anyone else thinking ahead already?

I want to finish my Interior Design degree (I've finished all the assignments, just need to put them on boards and submit them - talk about procrastination)

I want to get my weight under 200 by January 1, 2008.

I want my A1C under 5.0 and my cholesterol back to normal.

I want to be off my blood pressure meds.

Zero fast food in 2007.

I've got just under 2 months to get a head start on these goals.

I won't be making any resolutions this year. I have some goals, but they're independent of the new year. Pretty much every resolution for me in the past has just been a fad.

Instead, I'm going to continue doing what I'm doing and try to keep my head above water throughout the holidays, although I'm really not craving anything so it might be easier than I think.

Good luck in achieving your goals!

Well you know what they say carbjunky, "A goal without a timeframe is just a dream"... so I guess it's not too soon to start setting some for the new year!

Mine in fact would be the same as yours:
I want to get my weight under 200 by January 1, 2008.
I want my A1C under 5.0 and my cholesterol back to normal.
I want to be off my blood pressure meds.

Do you mean A1C under 5.0 without any diabetes medications? I may not be able to do that, as my diabetes is so bad I take metformin, actos AND insulin. And I'm still too high, even with strict LC. My version of that goal would be A1C 5.0 and the meds cut in half. Or off the insulin and actos and on the metformin only.

And reach 200 off the blood pressure meds with normal cholesterol. Yep.

Good luck to us!

Yes, I do mean A1C of 5.0 without meds. I had gestational diabetes with my pregnancy in 2000, and I was diagnosed Type 2 in 2004. Other than my pregnancies I've not had to take medications with my diabetes. I hope I never have to. That's why the goals. I need to get under 200 ASAP. My last A1C was 5.8 I think.

Are you eating large portions despite the LC? I've found that overeating anything, even a salad, will raise my IR and BG. I have even been able to apply this principle to non-LC eating and still attain a nearly 70 pound weight loss and an A1C under 6 w/ no meds. You stomach is the size of your fist. Eating more volume than that at any given meal or snack will cause BG increases regardless of the food you are eating. Just something to think about..

Good luck with your goals. It can happen!!

I do see that you are just starting out. You are doing a great job and as more weight comes off you will see greater improvement in your #'s. I was able to avoid medication because my diabetes wasn't that 'bad' (7.1 was my worst A1C) and I went on a drastic plan initially to get the most weight loss I could. I was trying to avoid weight loss surgery. I was so scared that I would die on the OR table and leave my daughter w/o a Mom.

Anyway. I'm glad portion control isn't an area you need to improve. Sounds like you are doing everything you can at this point. That's great. Take it seriously. Keep up the fabulous work! :D
