Hey guys, I've been off low carb for almost a year...kinda off and on. I had lost about 20 pounds, was doing sooo good. Not sure what happened. I guess just let too many things get in the way, i.e., taking care of sick husband, new granddaughter, elderly aunt, working from home... few things like that.
Lately, my levels have been over 200 every morning. So, I'm starting back on low carb since I know it worked for me.
My level this morning was 201, yesterday 234 and the day before was 260.
My weight in May was around 164 I think. I moved and still have a garage full of boxes. I don't have any energy and a lot of days, my vision is blurred.
My level in May was less than 140 but about 3-4 months ago, it went up and levels were over 200 so doctor increased my dosage to 850 mg Metformin 3 x day. I admit that I rarely take 3, just sooo busy that I don't remember.
Still taking care of my husband's elderly aunt, my 17 month old granddaughter, and my husband. I'm an at home medical transcriptionist trying to work in between jumping up and down doing things for everybody.
I will be joining the Rec Center here so that I can start exercising and walking. I know that should help.
I need tips for breakfast, lunch and dinner. How many meals to eat,...
I appreciate your comments. :help:

It's hard to stay on locarb diet.
Actually,it's incorrect to refer to it as a diet.
it has to become a lifestyle.
It won't work if you go back to old habits.
The big thing is setting a realistic daily carb
goal and sticking to it.
I allow myself 50 grams max of good carbs, zero
tolerance for transfat and sugar.
Maybe you should read the Bernstein book.
Lots of good information there.
Bye

It's very important to take care of your health. Until your BS levels drop from being on a low carb plan, I would really follow your doctors advice and take the Metformin as prescribed. Perhaps as time goes on, you may be able to decrease the amount, but it is important to remember to take it! As for meals, don't skip any. Eat 3 meals a day and snacks if you need to. There are lots of good menu ideas in the recipe section of the forum! Exercising will help with the BS levels also for many! Good luck to you and I hope you see a decrease soon.

It's great that you are back on low carb. When I started in July my BS was around 200 to 240 every morning. Now that I have stayed low carb and started going to Curves my fasting blood sugar is consistantly in the 80's (no medication only because I refused to take it). Keep it up and I'm sure your bs will improve. You probably should be smarter than I was thought and do what your Dr. tells you to. Good luck.

A BG reading of 200-260 is simply unacceptable at any time. You are really taking some risks with your health. You must get your blood sugar down and make that a priority.
Grandchildren, moving and all of that are great excuses for not tending to yourself but what happens with your busy life if you fall ill? Is your doctor getting labs from you every couple of months? Your results must be pretty high.
Read through some of the threads here at least. Please take care of yourself for your grandchild.

I just started at Curves, I love that place. My BG was pretty good but I need to lose some weight. I have to watch out now or my sugar goes too low in the afternoon before I workout.

Robbye ... welcome back to the LC world
You say "I've been off low carb for almost a year...kinda off and on. I had lost about 20 pounds, was doing sooo good".
Make a commitment to truly educate yourself on eating LC at all times of your life - meaning through stressful situations, life changes, holiday time and so on. LC is not meant to be used as temporary measures until you reach goal. It's what keeps you at goal weight and makes you a much healthier person so you can care for your 17 month grandchild, take care of an elderly aunt and still run a home. It will give you plenty of energy to do it all.
We all mess up sometimes but the key is to not let it linger and realize your mistake then hop back on the wagon. Cheating, messing up or forgetting to eat the right thing is never all that bad as long as you return back to LC and not continue to go down the negative path.
Believe me I know all about a busy lifestyle. I live and breathe the hustle & bustle of NYC life. I work full time at an extremely high stressed position and I'm on call to my clients 24/7, my position has me traveling to all ends of the world with no time to enjoy any of it except to get business done, I'm also taking classes in Holistic Herbalism and currently maintain 3 households plus I'm married! You should also know I'm a diabetic - diet controlled - thanks to Low Carbing, good supplements and my openness to make a change for the better.
There's no going back to eating unhealthy or being told I MUST take diabetic medicine - if so then I wouldn't be able to get anything done and I can tell you ....... I'm at a happy time in my life and with my health - that result is soooooo worth it! ;)

Thanks so much for your comments... level for the past two mornings have been back up to 200 and over. I did have homemade fajitas with flour tortillas last night, realize now that I should have omitted the tortilla. For breakfast now, I'm eating a raw cucumber and then maybe will eat a tomato. I'm behind at work since my daughter was hospitalized for a week and was back and forth out there and had to take care of my two grandsons...I'm also tired of making excuses. During the last week, my morning levels had dropped down to 179 and then 159 without meds. Getting my scrip filled today but been off meds for a week now. I have it my mind and heart to eat right and I know I can do it. I will continue reading the threads and try to find breakfast meals that I can maybe prepare at night before bed... Thanks so much for sharing!!

Robbye,
You said you are eating a cucumber and tomato for breakfast. Breakfast is very important and the time to get a big dose of protein to get your day started.... You should consider a breakfast more on the line of 3 eggs scrambled in butter.
LC dieting should not be starving yourself either. Keep us posted on how you're doing. I am diabetic also and without this LC way of eating, I would be on many types of meds. Stick to LC as your new lifestyle. The glucose numbers will come down.
