Okay.. Finally decided to start a gym log.
My workouts for the week so far:
Monday, 10/23--
35 mins elliptical, on 'wtloss' wrkout-- 2 mins incline 8/intensity level 9 then switches to 2 mins incline 13/intensity level 9-- repeat for 30 mins, 5 min cool down.
bicep and tricep curls, free weights, 8 lbs== 15 reps X2
Arm machines... (gotta write down the names.. I am so retarded):rolleyes:

Last night's workout, Wednesday, October 25th:
*bootcamp workout: 45 mins
New people bought the local gym a few months back.. and the lady is doing some wonderful things with the gym..... she's been working on a routine for 6 months that works out EVERY muscle in the body--- she narrowed it down to a 45 minute.. kick arse workout that is incredible....
*The workout is a mixture of step aerobics, kickboxing, calisthentics, weight lifting with free weights.. full body cardio workout for 45 mins which she calls the 'bootcamp' workout... and let me tell ya...it is TOUGH!!! The teacher's new name is 'Drill Sargeant'!!:lol: I really believe this workout is exactly the change that my body needs to step things up.. so.. I plan to fit this in twice a week along with running and elliptical...and hope to see some significant results in about 3 months..... SO yes... a new picture is very needed now....:D

My goal is to put in at least an hour of cardio in everyday.. I don't care how I do it as long as I do it.
In bootcamp workout the other day.. I slowed down ALOT which put much less strain on my knees and I still got a great workout.. I am beginning to think for me its about endurance, long bouts of cardio.. and slowing down a little.....

Good going on considering a triathlon ... I'd love to do one, but my knees just won't take the running. Hope that you'll post more details about it.

Yep them double workouts are doing some amazing things - strength that I had when I had college ball is returning. Young compitiion helps imensely and for the new kids when they see a coach working out it gets them to understand the importance.
Do I feel the pain - you bet - and they see it. Oh well I am a tad older. Keep after it and keep posting

girlfriend met me at the gym & showed me some more strengthening exercises for my legs since 2/3rds of the race is legs.. I gotta get serious about lifting to strenghthen now. Little by little I will have my complete exercise plan together... I do know that I need to do at least 45 mins cardio 5 x per week and I have been able to surpass that so I know I can do it. I need to get the full body weights done 3 x per week in addition.
Now.. to get the eating to match my workouts.......... :)

great workout, shorter then I would have liked, but a good one.
I now have a pilates dvd to do at home to work on my core... I really like the idea of working on the outside of my core.. since I work so hard on the inside.
Tomorrow I am planning to see how long it takes me to do ALL the weights, I DO like the way I've been adding the weights in slowly so as to not get too overwhelmed, this is working for me.

Fantastic workout. Am starting to think.. 2 workouts each day will be needed to gain strength, lose weight for the triathlon training. Starting in March will begin morning runs every other day. This will give me close to 16 weeks of training before the triathlon in last weekend of July, 2007.

Ok I want to see 10 pushups a day and 25 crunches - got to start somewhere...... keep up the motivation and kick it in gear :)

Well, actually during my classes we do LOTS of abs and pushups and I am getting stronger here, finally!! I probably need to separate out what all I do better here...part of the problem is.. I don't know the names of some of the arm stuff that I do...(I know.. I am a 'tard) :lol:
Anyways... last night..extremley difficult workout.. for ALL of us for some reason....???? I think our bodies were just plain tired, and I sweated more then I EVER have.. I was dripping.. (sorry this sounds gross, but I used to not ever sweat.. I feel, now, like the more I sweat the better the workout that I am getting)

My ankle a little sore cuz I twisted it again the other night.. its weak and I need to remember to buy an ace bandage to wrap it.. Did not run this morning because I don't want to re-injure.. so my plan is to get my ace bandage and start my runs tonight... then will begin running/walking in the ams probably tomorrow.

Hey there. Just peeking in to see what you're up to. Yes, figure out the names of your exercises. :D
You ask me once about what I thought about your cardio and lifting. I find I get much better benefits from 20 mins. of HIIT a couple of times a week and about 20 mins. steady state after training thrown in here and there, rather than 5-6 days of steady state.
I do a 20/40 6-7 round 20 mins. total HIIT on my elliptical. I use a heart monitor so I can be sure I'm in my target range. I hate doing it, but I feel fabulous the rest of the day.
20 secs. hard as I can go.
40 secs. recovery.
6-7 times.
Beginning with 5 mins. steady state and ending the rest of the 20 mins. with steady state.

Well, I am so not an expert on this stuff, but here's my feelings. I'd be sure I got the HIIT in at least twice a week, and 20 mins. of steady state after lifting if you don't end up doing HIIT after. Replace steady state with HIIT a couple of days, and on the other days, I'd limit steady state to about 20-30 mins. tops. Since this is probably about clear as mud, here is an example:
Sunday: weight training/ steady state
Monday: weight training/ steady state
Tuesday: HIIT stretches and abs
Wednesday: weight training/ steady state
Thursday: HIIT stretches and abs
Friday: weight training/ steady state
Saturday: OFF (do nothing)
That's pretty much my schedule. I don't always do steady state afterwards. If you don't want to, don't. Just make it comfortable and do-able for your life.
Also a little about HIIT. I'm very happy I have the ability to do it completely alone. Because I do a whole of of moaning and groaning and making ugly faces. It's quite normal to think you are going to puke. If you don't get to this point, you're not going hard enough. :lol:
You'll be amazed at how wonderful you feel for hours after it's over. And it really does do a whole lot better job at fat reducing than steady state ever has. :)
HIIT you feed like weight training. It's suppose to burn fat for the rest of the day, not during like steady state, that you can do empty.

I've been spending way too much time worrying over training plan... I finally came up with the plan that I truly feel is for me and that at the same time will challenge me and will get me fit and to the finish line in July.. so my goal is that by the end of May.. I will be able to run continuously for 4 miles and ride bike for a minimum of 15 miles- (at a minimum of once per week at these distances) I feel I must concentrate on biking and running and then start swim training in late May, first of June in the lake.
This plan reminds me once again to KEEP IT SIMPLE!!!!
So.. here is my plan- and will re-evaluate in 6 weeks--
6 days with 1 day rest:
alternate 3 days biking, 3 days running;
core work every morning;
3 x per week:
knee pushups 3x10- (work on going ALL the way down)
lunges 3x10 with ball overhead and to each side
Lat pull downs
tricep pull downs
Add some push-ups for upper body and abs for your toning... besides that your starting keep after it :) :cool:

WEEK 3 of 6 week plan
Monday, May 7th--
Fabulously tough bike ride.. 12.5 miles--took approx 50 mins.. nearly the course of the race, my legs are so sore and my right knee has been giving me problems.. but I kept pushing.. AND I made it up another really tough hill.. so I am really pleased with my progress here-- cycling is doing wonders for my abs and core too.. I can already notice a difference in a flatter tummy.. YAY! I am LOVING cycling-- I think this is going to be my new sport....
After ride... gym-- set of 2 front and back lateral pulls (3x12) & worked on biceps/triceps-

AM: 25 min jog/walk-- started over at week 3 of Couch to 5K... my legs felt like 2 lead stilts this morning.. BUT I did much,much better because I changed my attitude and my mind set...I CAN do this.. and I WILL.. I did not get my sore butt out of bed this morning to run.. so I will get my 2nd run in tonight, will get my 3rd bike ride for week in tomorrow morning, 3rd run in on Saturday morning and Sunday, will be rest day.

I would love to lose 60 lbs in 4 months... and he looks at me and says... "Cathy.. that lady doesn't even look healthy... just look at you and your skin-- you have much more toner and firmer skin and you look really good and healthy despite the extra weight.. I think you look much better then that lady.. and younger".. OMG.. it made me feel so good... SO...all my work is paying off.. WOW.. just think....WHEN

Each time I get a little stronger.. I just gotta keep at it. This is a good process..I have read that running fairly fast for a certain amt of time then into fast walking will speed up and slow down your heart rate which expends more energy and calories burned..Instead of just running at the same pace..I do a similar routine but I increase my speed after each mile or depending on my energy every quarter mile..I will start out at 5.4 then finish out around 6.2 and once in a while will shoot it up that last quarter mile to 7.0..which is good..
You got the tools and education..U can do this Cathy..Go woman

ran/walked 4.23 miles!!!!! it took me close to an hour.. which is slow... BUT... the funniest thing... the first mile and a 1/2.. I could NOT figure out why it was soooo difficult.. I thought to myself.. I should be getting stronger.. not weaker... then I realized.. I had the incline set to 3.0.. which isn't alot.. but when you are used to running with no incline.. it made a HUGE difference... my shins hurt and I was getting pissed.... when I took the incline back down-- omg.. what a difference.. I FLEW on that damn treadmill!!! SOOO.. now that I know I CAN do it with incline.. I am going to really start experimenting!!

I would bet after looking at similar problem with my ankle/Shin was running posture -
Are you looking down or out when on the treadmill - pick up your head and try to focus out with glances down at magic numbers on the blasted machine.
Its amazing but you've got the right shoes and been running for some time - might be worth looking at running posture.
Now are you holding onto the treadmil - thats another one - let go - slow it down if needed but you want your arms moving to - better workout and better posture,
Just my thiughts for the day :)

Monday, Feb 25th--
40 min HIIT stairstepper, 5 min cooldown-- fantastic workout tonight. :)
My goal for this week is to get five 45 min cardio workouts in.
Still waiting for my 'firm' dvd's to do in the morning.
Going to go back to alternating running with stair stepping and cycling just to change things a bit.

Not sure if I can kick a butt thats unsire whether it really wants to be kicked. Working out is 70 percentt mental and 30 percent labor - at least somedays it feels that way.....
Dedicate yourself instead or repeating every other week. When you can tell me your ready for that I can start kicking butt again :)

1 hour on the tread-- jogged/walked-- near 4 miles-- very slow.. but thats okay by me.
20 mins exercise bike,
30 mins abs, stretching arms/legs.
Good workout.. a little sore this morning, but not bad.

1.5 mile jog, had to give it up- hip pain, shin splints... :rolleyes: :( Frustrating, but just realized.. i desperately need new shoes... in the next couple of weeks will order new ones.. on a tight budget now, so gotta budget new shoes in.
did 20 mins abs and 5 mins of stretching
Once I get my new shoes, will then start a running challenge.. want to be 'fresh'

3 mile jog / walk... pain subsided after a mile this time (shin splints) hip/back thingy-- minimal pain, its actually getting much better.. I just gotta keep going, can't stand not too... but do need new shoes... :)

45 min body sculpting workout.... fabulous, felt empowered by this workout-- like I could almost feel my muscles getting stronger.. weird-- cuz although challenging... not the high cardio I am used to.
I love running and I love the elliptical and the stair master... but its time to change things around.. my body is not responding to all the cardio, and also I have to admit, I am getting bored with the same routines. Need to find balance with exercise and food......

Tonight will be 'cardio-fusion'-- cardio mixed with weights. Its a dvd I do at home and I got my 7 year old doing it with me.. she loves the music and the dancing. Its so cute watching her cuz she is SOO uncoordinated and could care less.. reminds me of me when I was her age!! :) (actually I am STILL uncoordinated)
