Some of you may read in a parallel thread that I am trying to lose a lot of weight in a very short time. A doctor whom I have seen for years offered to help by prescribing Topamax, an anti-seizure drug which has an off-label use of making people drop weight. I took him up on that. It also has a known side-effect of making people sleepy, which I am. I am not sure whether the cause is the drug or being hungry all the time.

Does anyone else have experience with it?

what dosage are on? do you take it at night or in the am?
how long have you been on it?

I´ve been on Topamax for a year now. It does help the hunger somewhat, but not to the extent that it fully turns off the hunger. I find that I have to be at 200mg for that to happen and then I lose memmory, so I lower the dosage again.
Taking higher levels of Omega3 helps that alot.

It does not have an approved off-label use as yet for weight loss. What it can do is seriously affect your ability to drive. It was the only thing that helped with a horrible disorder that I have called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, but I had to go off of it in order to keep my license. If you are taking it, some times your insurance company will not pay if you are in a wreck and you can be charged with DUI--even if not at fault. I was on a high dose. Be very careful when you start and go very slow when increasing doses. Another thing--it causes a dry mouth and eyes. Be sure to drink a lot of water.

I took it for four years, not for weight loss, but I not only didn't lose any weight, I gained a lot in those years.

Sunny!
