I have been "low carbing" off and on since March. I am about 10 lbs from goal weight. I am thinking about switching to SBD. I read the book two years ago - but I was wondering how horrendous plain oatmeal is, even if I am phase 1. Also, would it be recommended to start Phase 1 at this point if I would like to make half way to my goal by Turkey Day. I want to lose about a pound every week to week and a half so the weight doesn't just jump back on me every time I have a beer or a little piece of chocolate. Thanks for your help!

IMO.... if you want to lose that weight, since you are very close to your goal, you probably SHOULD do at least a week (of the recommended 2) in Phase 1. And that would mean no oatmeal. Then startadding in the carbs slowing (berries, low carb friuts, then carrots.... etc...). I am certainly not a "pro", but in my experience, I definately lose better/more consistantly the fewer grains I eat.
GOOD LUCK! And Welcome to the BEACH!

Hi there, yes if you want to go onto the plan, you really should do the first week of phase 1 at least. After that, as camelle said you need to add the grains and whole foods (startchy veggies etc) in slowly, like once or twice a week in the first few weeks. Add fruit in one piece a day.
PS, oatmeal is LOVELY! You can add things into it after the initial phase 1 period - things like blueberries, raspberries....chopped fruit of any kind really or sweeten it with splenda or sugar free syrups.
Good luck!

I suggest you have a little protien with that oatmeal. I absolutely love oatmeal. It's a real comfort food for me. But if I eat it in the a.m. without protien I end up being hungry well before lunch time. In fact, I don't seem to be able to get enough to eat all day long. A hard boiled egg makes all the difference for me. Wishing you success.

Hi and Welcome!!
Yes, I agree with the others...do a clean phase I to start off with...our phase I carb level is fairly higher than Atkins so you will already be eating at least 40 carbs a day on phase I. Please do not have oatmeal until you get to phase II.
I'd also like to comment on the part the I put in bold as you are a very wise woman to know this. The lower we keep our carb level to lose, the harder it is to maintain our loss at a more normal carb level. This is why it is so important on SBD or Atkins, to follow the plan as it is written and climb the carb ladder aka OWL phase of Atkins or phase II for SBD.
I am always disapponted when I see people jump to an idea( no or very low carb) that promises faster weight loss but then will be detrimental to them in the long run as it will screw up their metabolism.
Have you seen the Updated Food list and Meal Plan guides yet?

Thank you for the advice and tips!
It looks like I will be on my way to starting Phase 1 this week. I will have to reread the book and plan some menus tonight. I may have to sneak in one last cup of oatmeal before saying goodbye for a few weeks.
I appreciate the input you guys have given me! Now, for the updated food and meal guides, is that something you need to buy or is it available online? I am going to start up my journal again and also track my carbs in fitday.
Do you typically have a calorie limit? I have been doing Jillian Michael's fitness plan and getting great results, but the guide recommends 1200 calories which is tough to stick to 7 days a week. I am hoping to get "more bang for my buck" with SBD calories.
Any more input and advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

Hi!

This is a link to the Updated Foods List and Meal Plan guide...which is right here on our forum and available to you at no charge. I am a member of the SBD forum itself and have brought this info over here from there for our use.
When we follow the meal plan guide and pay attention to portion control, calorie counting is not necessary. I will suggest to you as you are so close to your goal weight, that you eat as much fish as possible to get your weight moving down. Watch your quantities of calorie dense foods ie: nuts and cheese. 1 portion of nuts per day and just a couple of ounces of cheese even if its reduced fat. Phase I veggies and unlimited so enjoy!!
I would also like to suggest that you print out the food lists and meal plan guides and carry them around as you learn the plan...that is what helped me to learn this plan. Feel free to look through my journal as I logged all my food for 20 months while I was in weight loss mode. I no longer log my food as I've been maintainng since last December.
Good Luck!! :agree: :D
