Hey everyone!
Seems like the holidays are my worst time because of so much stuff at parties and such that I thought maybe some of you could be my support and that we could chime in each Monday to see how we are making it through until New Years. This isn't really a challenge but if you want to stick your own personal goal out there then we will each cheer each other on to make it through the "Food Holidays" together!
I personally want to lose 25lbs before New Years so here I go.............
TEN WEEKS UNTIL NEW YEARS DAY!
10/16 Start 274 (down 30lbs since Aug 15th)

I want to pass my personal goal of 150lbs and hit my doctor recommended body weight of 135lbs by then. So I go 35lbs to go. =)
But Im taking a 3 week vacation off low carb starting next week. Going to the Philippines. I'll just have to watch my intake.
BEST OF LUCK to everyone! Write back at the New Years when you hit your goals!

Well, I have to lose 12 pounds in the next 10 weeks then, so I am going to have to stop with the sf chocolate if I want to make it. I am tired of eating meat and eggs, which means that I am eating way too many carbs. I barely losing a pound a week, which is OK, but not enough for my goal.

I'd like to join in too. I'm also worried about the holidays. I have the mindset of "without food, what's there to look forward to" (pertaining to the holiday season) and need to break that and discover an answer that works for me. So some support would be a good thing! I'd like to be seeing a weight that starts with 26_ by Jan 1st, and that won't happen if I don't stick to my guns.
Nice to meet you all. Good luck to us!

My goal is to lose 100lbs by New Year's eve. On a totally unrelated note, does anyone know how to self-induce a coma of exactly 68 days in duration?
Hello? Bueller??
Barring that, I'll settle for zipping up some jeans (and y'know, simultaneously exhaling) that haven't fit since I washed 'em MONTHS ago. The tummy area is really starting to harsh my mellow and I'd love to see some progress there, whatever sayeth the scale.
Rock on, TDCers. We can all finish this year with a BANG. And with a little work, it won't be the sound of an exploding zipper ricocheting off my bedrom wall.

Holiday treats (someone told me that you can have pumpkin pie without the crust) Is that true?
I don't see how, with all the sugar it takes to sweeten that squash in traditional recipes! But check out the 'sweet treats' forum because there are probably a dozen LC versions listed.
Eating well and feeling strong, but haven't reached for the smaller jeans yet. I'll probably try them on again over the next holiday weekend, which gives me about three more weeks of tummy-shrinking before gauging my progress. (Maybe I should call the local fire station and reserve the Jaws of Life? Naaaw...this Doughy One is thinking positive, y'all!)

That's the way to do it - when you slip up get right back on because regardless of how much we lose by New Years the fact that we are making headway to the finish line is what is important.
You set a good example because you didn't quit and you have shown that yes - slip ups happen - but you deal with it and go on!
Have a great week!

Well after 2 weeks of the scale reporting between 281-283.5 and refusing to nudge downward towards the *big event* (grin) I was looking forward to, yesterday morning it said 279! I made it to 31 of my 130 pounds to lose, so no longer have "over 100 pounds to lose".
No longer a TDC member, only double digits to go!
Then I went to the doctor, and my blood pressure was 120/70, the lowest it's been in 4 years. It truly is motivating to see signs that your health is turning around and all your efforts are paying off.

Hey everyone! I'm having some difficulties lately. Seem to be in kind of a stall and have been watching the same 2-3 pounds go up and down for no apparent reason! I've found my motivation slipping slowly away here day by day that goes by and not seeing any results. What I really need is the motivation to stay the course and considering the holidays are coming all too quick, I don't want to get my head in the right place. I hope it's not too late to join your group here. My personal goal is to make it to 199 pounds by New Years. That leaves me with 11 pounds to lose!

Charran -
You are so welcome here in our quest to make it to New Years on plan. I too am fighting a stall and plan on staying the course through the holidays rather I show a weight loss or not. Reason being is that if I stay right where I am and not lose another pound before then I will have maintained my current weight without gaining by extra carbs sneaking into my daily plan. That being said - you have a great chance of getting those 11 pounds off by sticking to your plan and if you don't then you will have done a great job of maintenance until the scale moves again.
The key to mastering this WOE to become a WOL is sticking to the plan and not letting stalls, slips or even the scale dictate your success or failure. If you are on plan the scale will eventually move, if you slip then jump right back on and if you are in a stall, go back to the basics and see if you need to adjust something in your WOE. We CAN do this together!
Hugs, Linda

Wed, Nov-15-06, 08:50
You know Linda, that is so true, and something we probably all need to hear especially this time of year. I heard on the news just this week on a story related to holiday weight gain, that the average adult gains 5 - 7 pounds during the holiday season... so if even if what we manage to do is maintain, we're still ahead of that!
I'm also diabetic, and part of this WOE for me is to control my blood sugar. I've made great progress there as well, dropping my numbers over 150 points in 3 months. Don't want to lose that ground, either! I have to accept that I can't eat like "normal" people, not now, and not when I lose the weight and look like a "normal" person either.
It would be easy to let myself whine and shout "not fair" about that, but then again *it's just food*. I really am working on trying to untrain myself from making all those other associations that drive the desire to eat. It's not fun, it's not pleasure, it's not sex, it's not entertainment, it's not comfort, it's not a hobby... it's just fuel. Right? My life is rich with so many other blessings...

If you wouldn't mind posting some menus of what you've been eating, I can try to help with some feedback.
Here are a couple of questions:
1- are you drinking enough water?
2- are you exercising?
3- are you eating fish?
I've gotten through 2 holiday seasons staying on plan and have had losses both years. It can be done!! :agree:

LC...thanks for the welcome! :daizy: Thanks also for your encouragement. I'm not giving up. I guess I didn't make that part too clear. I can't. I'm diabetic and after a recent health scare, there is no way that is happening...EVER! :D I guess mostly, it's my mood that needs to improve! I mean, I maintained weight without being too stricly low-carb ( although I've done some form of it for years now) for the last year. I didn't exercise much during that time either. Now, it seems when I'm exercising like crazy and sticking to plan and actively TRYING to lose weight...I'm still maintaining!
Karen- Thanks! :) I know you're right! I know I sound like a big whiner and that my reward should be just the fact that I am maintaining good BS control, but I'm selfish I guess.. I want the weight loss too. I've had many holiday times when I've gained weight, so I guess if I just maintain during that time, I'll be OK. BUT..I had so wanted to get to 199 BEFORE that time!
Judy-Thanks for your offer of help! :)
Oh and for any of you that might notice this slip... I don't want to get my head in the right place. ...that should be...I don't want to get my head in the wrong place! The right place would be a GOOD place to be! :)

Charran and Luckylady...I wish you luck and I know alot of this is an emotional challenge more then anything. I really think we can make it to our goal by posting here alot for support or writing in our journals. I've really gotten to like my journal here because I can write down my frustrations about food and weight loss and get feedback from people who have been through what I'm going through. The weight loss process we are going through needs to be a concious change and I almost think that losing it slower does the mind good too. :) It gives you a chance to reflect on how certain foods cause you to weigh more and by just limiting or eliminating these foods we can lose and be closer to a "normal" weight.
Just a few of my thoughts...
I also try to keep in mind that exercising his building muscle and for me I like to see the numbers go down. So, to help with this problem I bought a skirt that is in a smaller size and just use that as a gauge of how I'm doing.
We can do this ladies...hang in there. :) Take the holidays one day at a time. I passed up cake yesterday and my son's birthday party is tomorrow and I'll have to pass up cake again. But I know I can do it.

I'm lucky - having moved to the UK, I have no worry of a big Thanksgiving feast! My in-laws are eager to do some sort of celebration for me, but I'll just tell them that a slew of LC foods are the norm. :p
That said, I wish the best of luck to everyone else still dealing with the thoughts of the holidays coming up! I know it's tough and I'm of two minds about whether people should be able to step off plan or not - but I think doing what works for you is best and despite my removed participation in the big Turkey Day, I'll still be here to support you all. :)

Thanksgiving for me wasn't a big deal. My family doesn't prepare anything THAT special that I have to have it. It was just basically turkey, veggies, salad, and of course the buns, potatoes and stuffing, but theses weren't things that bother me anyways. AND...I made a huge discovery on Thanksgiving... when I started thinking about it..I don't even really LIKE pumpkin pie, so I didnt' have any this year and didn't even miss it. Now Christmas will be a different story for me ( asking for strength now) My mom prepares many traditional dishes that we don't have at any other time during the year. I always looked forward to them and this year will be a hard one.

Down 3 more pounds this week....to 295! :)
Today is my son's birthday and I have a plan. I have my LC snacks and we're going out to eat so I'll have salad. Then I can pass on the cake easily (I hope) :)
Thanksgiving, that's another story. There are a few HC dishes I don't know if I can pass up. I'll try to have a spoonful of what I want. Then I'll have to make sure to get right back on the next day. This is my plan for life....right?

well official weigh in day and i'm up a LOT. I went off plan last night, for personal reasons. It had nothing to do with being tempted by foods, or tired of my plan or anything it was purely personal choice and I do not regret it.

WTG everyone on the losses and Meggen WTG on your new resolve! I've done well on my first week going back to Phase 1 of SB. I'm down 5.4 pounds, so quite happy with that. I'm going to start kind of a modified version of Phase 2 by just adding 1 carb in this week and see what happens. I find breakfast is my trouble spot, so I need to do something about that.

I'm a Johnny-come-lately, but I'll sign up.
With only a month to go, I figure losing 15 pounds will be pretty aggressive. So I'll go for 18 pounds to get to an even 350. Frankly, though, I will be satisfied to make it to 360.

I was struggling yesterday and let it get to me. I'm going to start reading my Dr. Phil's book on emotional eating. This appears to be the main source of my fallling off the wagon.
I'll weigh later on this week. Today I'm going to be strictly LC and try to be motivated. :)

Big Mama -
Emotional eating.........I know it well.........hope that Dr. Phil's book helps. I know how hard it is NOT to turn to food when things are bad.......
Since starting my "diet" or what I now call my WOL, I have:
Lost my Mom to cancer (I was her primary caregiver up until her last breath)
My Ex left me after 20 years of marriage to a "friend"
I found out I was diabetic (BAD) hours before being wheeled into surgery to have a lumpectomy
After the divorce I lost my home, most of my furniture and LOTS of money
WHEW..........
I tell you this for only one reason - life will continue to blast away at us and it is how we choose to deal with it that makes or breaks us. I will say that it has made me tough in that I can beat the cr*p out of a pillow now and throw marshmellows if I feel the need to "vent". But, I will NOT allow life to derail my eating any longer and my private journaling helps. Most of all it is NOT going to change the situation one bit by me binging and making myself sick. I DO understand emotional eating - that is how I got to 475lbs but I soon realized that the above stuff that happened to me in a compressed amount of time (10 months) shocked me into figuring out that food was NOT the answer nor the salve needed to get me through. You can get through this....Hugs, Linda

Wow LC, you've had alot to deal with. It is wonderful that you were able to take all these events and learn a valuable lesson from them. Your resolve sounds so strong. I have no doubt you'll make it. You've had such great success so far.
bigmama- I'm sure you'll find many emotional eaters around here. I'm one of them. You are right to want to work on those issues while losing weight. I have been doing that this time around and I find it's very helpful. I think that if we don't learn how to deal with our emotions as we lose weight, we're asking for trouble later on. I've read Dr. Phils book and also worked through the questions in Bob Greenes book. I found them both very good starting points for learning more about me. Good luck to you and I hope you find the book helpful!

Well, I just started again yesterday. I would really like to be in the 350's by New Year, I know that is a huge, possibly unrealistic goal, but I do have that I am just restarting going for me. I usually lose quickly the first week or two. For instance I was 385 yesterday morning, and this morning I was 380.6. So I will shoot for the stars.
