I was watching one of those weight loss shows awhile back on TV and there was a woman on there who weighed 210 pounds ( slightly smaller than me) and said she buys a size 14 pant. I'm so far from a 14 that it's not even funny! Then I was reading around the forum various people at different weights giving their sizes and now I'm wondering....WHAT IS YOUR SIZE????? So ok...here goes mine ...I'm 5'7"... weigh 218 pounds, have measurements that make me a square ( all within an inch of each other). I wear a size XL pant. I don't have anything with an actual waist and zipper...it's all the elasticized things, so I don't know what that translates to size wise, but I'm thinking maybe about a size 20  My shirt size is a 3X large. I need this NOT for a big bust, but rather the stomach, so it makes it a little loose across the upper chest, but good across the stomach. It's interesting ( to me anyways.. ) to find out about different body types and what size they can fit into and I'm starting to wonder...was the lady on TV 7 feet tall or what???

the reason all the sizes have a wide range regardless of weight is because some people are apples and some people are pears and some people are something else. i am in 20's right now. but if you only saw my legs and butt you would say 12's LOL if that. i have a total apple thing going on. well.. now that i have lost some i have a "waist" but still the pants have to go over the lower portion of muh belly . .. now someone else could weigh the same as me and carry it all in their legs and tush and viola.. no 20's for them... they can get away with 18's or 16's cause their tummy aint so bulgy. see what i am getting at?? :)

I'm 5'8, which is pretty tall, at least where I live, and I get into a 22, sometimes 24, depends on the day and the bloat.
HA.
Its funny, because I am half white, half mexican, but I have he apple shape, which is opposite of most mexican women, who are shaped like pears, not apples.

I'm 5'8" and at 192 I am a comfortable 16, at 210 I was an 18, I am more an apple then a pear though, I hope to be in a 14 at about 180, I get discouraged when I see people my height and weight in tinier sizes, but I am smaller then I was! 40 pounds gone so far!

Today, I am 236 pounds, and I wear a size 20 dress pant, and a size 1xl shirt. When I started this way of life, I was wearing a size 28 pant, and a 5xl shirt.

I'm 5'7. I currently wear a 3X/26 top or in dresses. I don't wear pants yet because the bottom is a very weird shape, so I hide it under skirts. Maybe next year.
At my heaviest, I was a 6X.

I understand about the whole apple/pear thing. I'm a definite apple, which makes pants shopping almost impossible. If I find a pair that fits around the waist, I get this whole saggy, baggy clown thing going on in the legsand butt. NOT an attractive look, nor does it feel too good! Maybe once the stomach is gone, I can finally buy a pair of zippered pants and not look like I belong in a circus!

My weight bounces between 191 and 195 and I'm 5'5" tall. I very comfortably wear size 14 jeans, but I have a very big chest, so I still have to wear my 2X and larger shirts. My waist is only 34 inches, but my chest holds my shirts out so you can't tell that my middle is small. I also have very large upper arms, so I look like I weigh more than I really do.

I'm 344 and wear a size 26/28 in most everything tops and bottoms. I can wear jeans size 28 ONLY ONLY ONLY if they come from Lane Bryant. Any other store, size 28 will not button or zip. I'm an apple shape. My legs, and arms are little in comparison with my stomach and chest. In Highschool, I was 165-180 and wore a size 14-16 with no problems :) I can't WAIT until I can wear that size again!! :D

wow! how I can relate! I hate shopping for pants. I have chicken legs and a huge stomach! And what's up with all the short little tops, I can never find something long enough to cover my stomach!
right now I am between a 22 and 20, if I didn't have a big gut I'd probably wear a much smaller size.

This is a question that has puzzled me as I read the boards as well. I am 5' 8 1/2" tall and weigh 228 lbs. I always thought my weight was evenly distributed, but as I lose, I definitely look like a pear. Partly because of the pounds of extra skin on my belly. I also inherited disgusting bat wing upper arms that are getting smaller, but never small enough. So, if I can get the arms big enough, I wear a size 16 blouse and about a size 18 pants. Since I hardly ever get new clothes, for the most part I am still walking around in enourmous size 20's. So I agree, it always puzzles me when someone the same weight but much shorter is buying the same size or smaller.

I'm 5"8 and 285lbs. I can wear a size 20-22 pant (depending on the stretch and the day) and a 26/28 top. My bust is big (even when I'm smaller) so I tend to wear smaller tops.
At 200lbs. I wear a size 14 pant but still wear a size 18ish top.
I have about 15 pairs of pants in my closet I can't wear right now...someday soon tho!!! hehe :)

I agree with you about those short tops, but after all they do have a purpose...they go with the plus size low rise jeans  Sometimes I wonder what clothing designers are thinking

I started out at 252 and size 24 (height of 5'6"). Now I am 189 and a loose size 18. I am very pear shaped, I have a huge butt and thighs and now a saggy belly from 5 kids. Up top there is much less, I could wear a large shirt if it didn't have to go over my belly. I have always had a problem with the waist of my pants being too big because I have to buy them big enough for my butt.

Hi, new around here. I am 5'10" and at my highest weight ever 251 lbs. I wear a size 22 skirt, size 24 pants and a size 20 tops. I am a serious pear shape, you'd think my bottom was inflated and I was wearing a corset, LOL!!!

I was in the grocery store the other day and couldn't help staring at a young woman that must have weighed 250 pounds and had a baby recently. She had on a short top and low rise jeans and she had a huge belly just covered with red stretch marks fully exposed. She saw me looking and tried to tug the shirt down over her belly, but it didn't stay there. I surely didn't look at the back of her to see the butt crack that must have been showing.

At my highest, 277 pounds, I wore a 3x top and 24W bottoms. At my lowest weight since 2000, I wore a size 14 at 220 pounds. Weight training will put you in smaller sizes at higher weights.

I'm 5 ft. tall, about 210 lbs and wear size 18 pants. I've also noticed that the larger sizes seem to be farther apart, for instance I'm still only a size 16 at 185 lbs but smaller people seem to go down a size for every 10 lbs.
I also think that the sizes are a bit different (larger) in the US than they are here in Canada - both in the regular and the plus sizes. A friend of mine moved here from LA and she was a size 2-4 in the US and is a size 6-8 here!

I've often wondered if sizes are different between the countries. I know different manufacturers are different in sizes. Just for fun, I pulled out a size 18 pair of jeans that I had bought oh so long ago when I thought I'd lose the weight. The zipper is still like at least 6 inches from meeting in the middle. I guess it's a goal to work towards again. This time I'm going to make it though. ;) That whole 10 lbs per size thing doesn't work for me. I've lost a total of 37 pounds and am still wearing the same clothes as when I weighed 253 pounds. They do look better mind you, but they're still the same size! Maybe I just have a weird body-type!

I'm 5ft 6" and i carry my weight rather evenly, right now i fit comfortable in my 16W/18 with some room. Making my half goal to fit into a 12 takes away a lot of pressure. I would be getting a pair of 12 jeans the next time i'm at the store.

I'm 5'8" & 177 lbs. and wear about 3 different sizes right now. I think it depends on the cut of the clothing too......the other day I bought a pair of size 10 pants.....but I also have 12's & 14's in my closet that I wear (pants)......and I tried on a dress today, size 14 it was too small.....then I tried on a 14 skirt and it was too big. I find it really frustrating.....

yep, me too! I wear a 14, unless it's cut really small, then I may have to go for a 16. I'm 5'4 and a 38DDD, so I do either XL or XXL depending on who makes it... If it weren't for my chest I could easily have XL's big on me (I'm small everywhere else up top)... I'm a complete apple shape... I have skinny girl legs, always have, and normal sized arms, but I look like I swallowed a watermelon lol  If it wasn't for my spare tire, I could probably easily fit into 10's, that's how big my belly is

I TOTALLY know what you mean, Char. I see even posts here and think... "Wow". Huge differences!!!
I'm 5'6" and hour-glass shaped (big hips & big bust). At my heaviest, 368 pounds, I wore a 5X or 6X and 50" pants.
At my lightest, 243 pounds, I wore 24-26 pants (mostly 26's) and size 2X or 3X tops (mostly 3X).
Currently, at 278 or so, I'm in 28 pants and 3X or 4X tops. I see posts here where people started at 300 pounds and wore smaller clothes than I wore at 243 pounds! Wierd!!!
I do have LOADS of loose skin and a hangy belly from being so large at one point, and wear a DDD bra...that hasn't gotten any smaller since I've lost weight.
I just joined Curves and they asked me what my goal is...weight and size. I simply answered...I don't know what weight I'll be at the point that I'm in a size I'm comfortable, as I've never been there before. :) I'm guessing I'd like to be a size 16, but am guessing I'll have to be about 170 pounds before I wear that size, simply because I run in bigger sizes than most people.
I do find this topic interesting... ~Amy~
