I had some mashed butternut squash (aka winter squash?) and it was wonderful. So im wondering if theres a website or if someone knows, How many carbs this squash has per cup or half of cup something like that.

1 cup of cooked Butternut winter squash has about 21.5 carbs.

It's not carb friendly at all.

FYI, click on TOOLS on the green menu bar at the top of this page, then on LOW CARB TOOLS, and find the Carb Counter that's included right here for your convenience.

By the way, most of the nutrition counters use the USDA database information, which sometimes, as in this case of butternut squash, does not list the fiber content.

Some other sources DO list the fiber content, which lowers the net carbs for a cup considerably (and still LOTS lower than potatoes, for instance, and a healthy colored vegetable, too).

I agree with Island Girl...you don't have to eat the entire cup, you don't have to put little marshmallows on top (as my mother loves to do) and you don't/shouldn't deny yourself the taste and vitamin benefits of winter squashes. One-half cup (a perfect respectable serving size) is 9g ECC, and served with a piece of fish, a grilled pork chop or some roasted poultry of your choice, it's perfect fall eating.

Pumpkin, btw, is also a 'winter squash' and it's about as carb-friendly as a naturally sweet vegetable can get. And pumpkin and other winter squashes are also great roasted, and/or pureed and made into soups (curried, creamed, southwestern, with sausage...I must have at least five variations of pumpkin soup, which I sometimes make with frozen pureed squash if I'm short of pumpkin. And you can stuff the shells of some winter squashes, and roast them, which makes a great low carb vegetarian entree.

That is interesting, Jude. I'd love to include butternut squash in my diet more often. I just checked the USDA (http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/cgi-bin/list_nut_edit.pl) and it does list a fibre amount, but it is only 2g per 100g of squash. That is way lower than the other site you mention. I have noticed that the fibre counts for other squash, such as patty pan, also seem to be very low on USDA.

well, thanks everyone for the info. I thought maybe there was a carb calculator somewhere on the site, just wasn't sure where.
Over the weekend I sort of let myself go. I just had more carbs than I should have. I went north about 2 hours from my home to see my mom and dad, and of course had to cook a giant thanksgiving feast...minus the pies and baked good thank goodness. I limited the amount of what I was eating, except the turkey, but I had a couple tbl spoons of peas which I know are starchy, had probably a cup of butternut squash, which I wasn't sure about but it was so good, Had a little bit of coleslaw, and some salad with lowcarb dressing...but all together the carbs add up and ketones are no longer, so back to induction all week for me:)

Funny, I looked twice at the USDA site and several times at other calcs based on the USDA site, and never saw the fiber... :help: the alternative listing of 1 cup cubed cooked with salt is roughly twice the size/weight of the 100g portion and should definitely be showing the fiber as well, however much it may or may not be... :lol:

Think I'm maybe losing it :q::devil::q:
