Good Morning All..

Quick question here.........How much fat (Tbsps, Teaspoons) , in the form of Mayo, Butter, oils, dressings, do you eat in a "typical" day?

I am very curious to know. My brother probably consumes 1/4 cup of mayo a day, fries everything in butter and is losing like a mad man! Meat, eggs and veggies are his food(s) of choice.

Thanks for sharing.

Quite a bit, even in maintenance. :yum: If I cook eggs, it's in about 2 tsp of butter or bacon grease. Dressings, I usually use 2 Tbsp. I'll put about a Tbsp of butter on cooked veggies. It ends up being about 80-100 g fat per day, on average.

even before i came back to lowcarbing, i was never exactly tight-fisted with oils and fats. i marinate and sautee in olive oil and i just eyeball the amounts, and i've been known to melt an entire stick of butter, throw in some herbs, and pour that over veggies. i like mayo but i'm careful if i'm mixing it with stuff because i don't like the end result to be dripping all over the place.

i usually don't measure stuff... i cook by concoction. but i use real butter and good quality olive oil. i don't bother with margarines or other oils unless i have to.

for the past month an average of 110 grams per day, in the form of butter, olive oil, coconut oil, some mayo, cheeses, in meats, almond butter, other nuts, eggs.

If I don't count the stuff already in meat/dairy/eggs/nuts, I add around 3T per day or more to various things.

I use quite a bit of fat too.

Example: yesterday (1 tsp bacon grease to cook eggs, ~2Tb mayo in tuna, 3-4 Tb sour cream in casserole type dish for dinner) along with fats from cheese, nuts, supplements and other fat - total 165g of fat (67%).

Other examples: 110g (63%); 155g (63%)

According to the report function at Fitday.com, I'm eating about 66% fat, or an average of about 116 grams per day.
I think for me that's divided pretty evenly coming from food (eggs, meat, cheese) and added oils mayo and butter.

Hi Arubajan! Love the name as we own our own home in Aruba!

Yes, men tend to be a bit different on the scale with what they eat and how they lose. There is good fat and bad fat - you'll find not all fats are bad for you and some aid in the digestion of certain foods.

Actually, if you read Dr. Atkins book he explains that some people are very metabolic resistant to loosing weight and that the only way they can do it is in a diet high in fats, low in protein and very low carb. When I have done this diet, I lose like 5 lbs in a week. Add to that that I am 61 years old, not young by any means.

I eat quite a bit of fat-- the fat of the pig fried in lard.
