I have just stated the Atkins diet. It's been 16 days and I've lost about 5 pounds. I have lower back pain that can be quite immobilizing and I'm wondering about using aspirin. It works for the pain but Atkins recommends not using NSAIDs. I believe the concern is that it interferes with ketosis. But, with the increase in fat in my diet my appetite has been greatly reduced. So, I eat a lot less. I would think that that alone would mean that I would continue to lose weight, with or without ketosis.
I would appreciate any comments on the compatibility of NSAIDs with an LC diet
TIA

As far as I know it's fine. I take Ibuprofen for headaches and cramps and I think that's an NSAID.
Here's the reason NSAIDs aren't recommended from Dr. Eades of the "Protein Power" low-carb plan:

I take asprin or naproxin (Aleve) almost everyday for pains. I had low back pain for many years, it has cleared up on the Atkins diet. I also do inversion and specific back exercises for core strength.
What mostly stalls people is eating too much.

Thanks Newbirth and Mike. I am going to try Eades Fish Oil/Krill Oil/Curcumin regimen for my back pain. And Mike I'll bet that once I get further along on losing 30 lbs. my posture will change and help with the back pain as well. I have noticed that as I've added weight that it has gotten worse.

Exercise, or lack thereof, can be a huge contributor to back pain. Ab work can be critical, and overall strength training is huge.
It's kinda scary to look at some bodies and ponder how the spine is being pulled out of whack.
That said, I was a huge consumer of vitamin I until my doctor switched me over to a prescription NSAID. Without it, I barely move, so I don't really care about "hindering weight loss" or interfering with ketosis. Not moving hinders weight loss far more than any medication, outside of steroids.
