I have been on Levothyroxine for Hypothyroidism since 2004. Started with 75mcg. and now ~ 150mcg.
I have been on Atkins for the last 5 years, and a few years before that, in my fourties, way before i was daignosed with hypo, and did lose 20 lbs then, and could happily eat Atkins and not gain.
However, for the last 5 years, even with rigorous exercise and being on induction most of the time, I haven't been able to lose a lb.
I have recently switched to South Beach and am going to the DR. on 10/24 armed with information to get myself some meds to address the T3 issue. Any experience anyone can share about combo meds with T3 will be much appreciated. I have actually printed out some comments on this thread to bring in. I WILL GET SOME t3!!!

My GP put me on synthroid and that did not work well. I then went to an endocronologist and she prescribed a higher does of synthroid and cytomel (5 MCG). As you can see by my stats, it is working and I feel great! What is your TSH level? Mine is 1.15 and the doctor said this is great - it should be between .8-1.

You can get tested for free T3 and Free T4 to get the balance right. When I was diagnosed with hypo my T3 was much lower then T4 so I've always taken T3. I don't feel right unless they are both in the high normal range.

I think it would help your dr if you have hypo symptoms besides low metabolism to prove your point. I have the impression they think we just want the pills because we're too lazy to diet or something.
