RESEARCH NOTE Serum ferritin levels in West Nile encephalitis
B. A. Cunha, B. Sachdev and D. Canario Abstract

West Nile encephalitis (WNE) presents clinically as aseptic
meningitis, meningoencephalitis, encephalitis, or acute
flaccid paralysis. Non-specific laboratory findings, e.g.,
leukopenia and thrombocytopenia, accompany WNE. Lymphopenia is
marked and prolonged with WNE. Three patients with WNE were
found to have elevated serum ferritin levels. Severity seemed
to be directly related to serum ferritin levels. Although
preliminary, the results suggested that serum ferritin levels
= 500 ng/mL (normal range 5-187 ng/mL) occur late with WNE,
and not in a control group of patients with viral meningitis
or encephalitis.

Ferritin is elevated in inflammation. Serum iron is reduced in
inflammation. Always order a CRP in verifying such
inflammation and one can make a diagnosis of iron deficiciency
anemia in the presence of an elevated ferritin.

Not that you would know nor care. I would hate to see your
house full of newspaper clippings and secret codes concerning
iron plastered on all your walls.

Actually .. buddie .. it seems since they have shown you
and your ..
ilk .. are UNABLE to . actually .. distinguish .. BETWEEN iron
deficiency .. and unutilized .. iron .. IE: all diabetics
found to have free floating iron in the body .. THIS year
.. then the fact you STILL hold to the adage of YOUR ..
'ability' TO .. diagnose iron deficiency .. means .......
sir .. it is not ME that would .. "know or care" .. but
in reality .. YOU .. who .. doesn't .. "know or care" ..

Logic ..

I ain't the one 'surrounded by dead kids and premature
deformed babies with lifelong problems ahead of me' .. CAUSED
.. by .. you and your ilk being UNABLE to diagnose .. iron
deficiency ..

You.. are ..
