i just wanted to share this. i took antidepressants for about 11 years and recently weaned myself off of them. at the same time, i started a low carb diet to try to lose the 50 lbs that the drugs made me gain. but i wasn't feeling well at all. anyway, i had read quite a bit about 5-htp (a supplement that increases serotonin) and started on it a couple of weeks ago. i felt better within 1 day. i am taking 50mg 3x a day. what is interesting about it is that it has a side effect of being an appetite suppressant. as a matter of fact, i actually have to remind myself to eat enough because i don't get hungry (which is a nice change!).

anyway, if you suffer from depression and are also trying to lose weight, you might try 5-htp. you can buy it at any drug store. but you CANNOT take it with antidepressants. it has really helped me feel better and lose weight. if you try it, i would just take 50mg for a few days and increase from there. i wouldn't take more than 150mg a day. for a lot of people, 50mg is enough. it can make you kind of wired too, but that was a blessing for me because i was depressed and sleeping too much.

just wanted to share.

Thanks for that really useful info.

I'm just seriously impressed you weaned yourself off anti D's after 11 years. Kudos to you, my friend.
