Could everyone starting on CLA come and post on this thread?

We'll need your waist measurement and the 'largest part' measurement around your tum which is carrying the fat.
I'm running my own experiment in my journal (day 1 today) but there are lots of people doing this too and it could benefit others if we record our results here.
We also need to record side effects of this stuff too.

Hope more people join in. :)

My measurements are:

Waist... pulled in slightly 40 inches
Waist... relaxed 42 inches

Widest chubby bit just below my waist is around 45 inches... shockingly!

First day on CLA today. You'll need to keep to plan, not do anything different than you normally do so that we can have an accurate picture of what's happening for you.

Cheers everyone.

I haven't purchased mine yet, but I will this week. I read up on it and I think I owe it to myself to try it at least for the next three months. Here is a good link for anyone interested in learning more about CLA (Tonalin).

I ordered from the same place as Sapphire, I don't have it yet. I'll post my measurements when my order comes in.

I bought the CLA tonight...just have to find my measuring tape.

How much will all of you be taking for this experiment? The bottle I got is 1000mg, and the suggested dose is 2 capsules twice a day with meals. This being said, I've seen others say that they've had success with just 2 caps per day. The bottle I got is the 'tonalin' kind, but only 60 capsules - $12.98 USD I think it was. At 4 caps per day, this is only a two-week supply.

I'll report back in with measurements. I'll use the handyman's tape measure if I have to...lol!

CITRUSKISS from all I've read, the suggested daily intake of Tonalin® CLA is one 1000mg capsule (1g) three times daily with food, for a total of three grams per day. Ordering Tonalin online seems to be a better deal. I ordered Tonalin CLA, 1000mg with Safflower oil for $16.99 including S&H ....120 gel tablets. The link is below.

Hi Citrus... Nice to see you and great that you're joining in. I see some people take 4000g of the stuff but I'm on 3000 which is the recommended dose on the bottle.

Day two today and I'm not experiencing any side effects. I'm told that it can give you gas and loosen stools somewhat but no difference for me.

Hi Sapphire,

Thanks for the welcome Annabel. I most definately will measure before taking the product to guage it's effectness. I ordered online this afternoon, so I expect to have it by weeks end. I will post my measurements on the day I receive my bottle. Of course, I could post them tomorrow morning. I don't expect my measurement to change any between tomorrow and the time I receive my bottle. It's going to be interesting to see how/if CLA will work for us individually.

Ladies, anyone not wanting to post measurements here is fine... We all understand it can be a bit ... public!
I think the important thing is that you record them somewhere and then at least post the inches lost. This way we don't stop people joining in. :)

Hi count me in. I'm totally frustrated that I can't seem to shift the belly/upper tummy fat. I'm 29" at belly button, 30 1/2" at about three inches above the belly button, but 32 1/2" about three inches below the belly button. I bought Organika "High Potency" 85% CLA in 1000 mg capsules. It's from safflower oil which is the only kind they had. Did not see any Tonlin or whatever.

I have been off LC a tad the last week or so as my poor old Mum is heading into her last few weeks on earth - Alzheimer's stopping her from eating and drinking, and bad heart, bad BP - so things are a little stressed around here! I'm making my DS a cheesecake (Stella, of course) but I'm sure I'm off plan somewhat - oh that glass of wine or three at the end of the day at the nursing home sure is a comfort!!! HOWEVER, this little experiment is enough to kick me in the pants and tell me I need to ride the stress out with good LC stuff and some CLA!!!

I think it's great to have such a following but as I am a diabetic and ran into problems using CLA I would advise any Diabetic's taking part to keep a close eye on their sugar while giving CLA a try. I won't go into my negative results and CLA might not effect you as it did me but it is a best to keep watch.

Good Luck to all and hope you get wonderful results!

Thank you for pointing this out...I read something about that as I googled CLA last night.

My question is - if you're not diabetic, nor pre-diabetic - do you think this supplement would do any harm? The reason I ask is because on my last physical, my blood sugar was 98 after fasting for 12 hours - the doc thought this was a little on the high side. I'm not well-versed in what 'good numbers' should be, and the doctor didn't really say I was pre-diabetic or anything, but just reported back that number to me as being a little on 'the high side'.

Sorry to hijack the thread - Nikki doesn't have a journal, so there wasn't really a way for me to ask the question that way.

The other thing I came across in researching CLA is that it can sometimes mess with cholesterol too, but that's only if someone stays on it for months and months (like a year or more), and it doesn't happen to everyone.

I'm going to try it for a month and keep measuring my waist and the fattest part of my abdomen because I've seen a lot of studies showing that CLA does reduce body fat, particularly around the abdomen, and I'm interested in seeing if it'll help me.

From what I have read, it seems to be safe for non diabetic people. I've been reading testemonials from people who've been on it for years, but my view is that it's useful in short term bursts rather than continuous use.
For some people the effect can wear off anyway, but I can't find anything online which suggests the amount of time on it.

Citrus, I have 'interesting' numbers too, similar actually to yours, but am told that I am not insulin resistant. I think if we're trying something new, we all just have to keep an eye on what's happening to us.

Day three for me today. Still no unpleasant side effects.

Um, I appear to have shrunk about half an inch on my waist though....

That's interesting!

Um, I appear to have shrunk about half an inch on my waist though..

Woo hoo! In just three days? That's great :)

I managed to remember to take two of my 1000mg tonalin CLA capsules. Only had two actual meals today and took a CLA after each one. Maybe I'll take another before bed. The bottle I bought suggests 2 caps 2x a day, but I was kinda hoping I could take less than that so as to make the bottle last a bit longer.

I wonder if it'll make much difference if I take 2, 3 or the 4 caps per day as suggested on the bottle?

I'll do the best I can and keep an eye on my measurements.

Know what I like about this CLA experiment? The idea that we're all just taking it, watching measurements and sticking with our own LC WOE. If this stuff works, it shouldn't matter which plan we're on...right?

Given that CLa inhibits lipoprotein lipase, (the enzyme that breaks fat down in the body ) in all of us, and prevents the amount of fat stored in the body, it makes no difference to the plan imo, but lets see what people experience. It will be interesting to see.

I'm taking the stuff as suggested so getting 3000 a day. That's 6 caps for me. I would take as suggested, or if you want, take less and lets see if your results match others.

You can be the control group  :D

Well, I'll stick to the 3000, and you take the 4000. The US has different guidelines for such things than Europe and Australia where I am now... I'm happy to take the 3000 and see where it gets me. :D

Is this suppliment meant to take your weight down as well as inches? I find it interesting all this, but as you have no idea what you weigh Annabel, has anyone else weighed in before starting taking this suppliment to see if there is a reduction in weight as well as fat around the middle?

Goddessrhi
Wed, Sep-13-06, 01:58
Since it builds lean muscle as it helps eliminate fat, there is a chance it wouldn't change your weight significantly. Not sure yet, though. I figure if this can help get rid of the dangerous abdominal fat, that is enough to make me happy.

I guess if it removes enough abdominal fat, then it might have some impact on your weight, but probably only by a pound or two. Even if I did know what I weigh, I don't know if I caught myself on a high weight day (weight fluctuates, as you know.. ;) ) or a low weight day. I aso wouldn't know if it's because of low carbing or because of the CLA. I'm just hoping for a difference in the abdo fat, because that is what it claims to do.

Say, I wonder if it will shift thigh fat too.... :D

So far, half an inch, maybe a little more. I'm being conservative.

OK, here are my stomach measurements as of 9-13:
midriff - 44
waist at curve - 41 1/2
waist at navel - 43 3/4
hips - 50 1/4

The midriff measurement is a new one. The others I've been following for the last month and in one month's time, the inches lost have been:

waist at curve - 1
waist at navel - 4 1/4
hips - 1 5/8

I'll compare that with the month starting 9-13.

Also, I bought my CLA at the health food store...the woman there told me that while the dose on the package is 1 three times per day (for a total of 3,000 mg), she has a couple of customers who doubled that during weight loss, then went to the recommended dose for maintenance. I'm going to take the recommended dose for a week or so and see how I tolerate it and then possibly increase it. I'll let you know.

No, still haven't received mine. DH is a mailman in our area so if it's coming through USPS then I won't get it today. I just called him and there are no packages for me today.
I measured the other day but I'm going to measure again when I start CLA.
I've experienced some stomach upset with the chromium that I take so maybe when I start taking CLA I'll cut out chromium for awhile. That way I'll know if CLA causes stomach upset for me.

Hi everyone. :)
I got the EAS CLA from Wal-Mart. It costs $18.97 a bottle.
It's 1.5 grams for 2 caps. It recommends 2 3xs a day. That's 2 weeks worth per bottle. I only say this for others reading wondering about those things. Because I was wondering. :) I started taking it yesterday.
My measurements were:
weight: 147
waist at curve: 29
at navel: 31.5
below navel: 33 (I have a uterine tumor the size of a softball in this area)
low hips: 38 (wide part of behind)
thighs: 36.5
I put up those other measurements to see if it impacts these areas as well. :)
Also, I am 51 years old, I weight train and do 20 mins. of cardio 4 times a week. This has been my habit for a good while. My measurements haven't changed in a good while either.

Annabel33

No, it's pointless. You're supressing the thing that breaks down fat. Taking more than 3000 imo is pointless. If 3000 suppresses it, then job done. 4000 or 6000 or 8000 is going to do the same as 3000.
Stick with 3000 or whatever it says on your bottle.

I started taking it Sunday and I am just now checking this site. I started the thread "upper belly fat" and it ultimately turned into this too. I have no measurements though cause I only have access to the net on weekends. But guys, I'm telling you, it is doing something, I can tell by my clothes. I don't weigh myself much so I can't say anything about that. I don't have the bottle in front of me but i didn't order it off line. I got it at Rite Aid - in fact it's Rite Aid's brand. I have been taking 3 tabs a day but i don't think each tab is 1000mg - maybe I should be taking more? Well, it is doing something - if it isn't the CAL then something is doing something. The only other change I have done since starting CAL is that I have a higher fat intake. Putting coconut oil in tea. It is either the CAL or the "more fat to make you thin thing"

Hmmmm, one a day seems a bit daft. Take three to equal the 3000. I think your label is wrong. If you're on 3000 then you're on the same as everyone else. :agree:

Excellent yoyaney and it's you I have to thank for getting the idea to start this thread in the first place.

I think your CO will make a slight difference to your metabolism because it does with me, but CLA is meant to target abdominal fat... Mine's gone mainly around my back and side above my hips I think because I can get into trousers I haven't worn a while....

There is an article in the October issue of Muscle and Fitness on CLA. Page 246 at the bottom. If you wanted to check it out. It's short, so it can be read quickly.
One study was of overweight people who didn't diet or exercise, they took 3-4 grams of CLA daily for six months. They lost about 5 pounds more bodyfat and added roughly 1 pound more muscle than the group who consumed olive oil. Plus the fat loss came mainly from the abs in male subjects and from the abs and thighs in the females.

It also talks about a test group that did exercise, but did not diet.

It ends with: "Just think of what it could do along with a solid lifting program and diet. Take 1-3 grams of CLA with breakfast, lunch and dinner."

Anyway, I just thought I'd share that. :)

Still watching your progress :) I will get some if more of you have results I think, not that I don't trust your results Annabel, but once I watched a girl on here promoting a product she was using....ummmmmm can't for the life of me remember what it was called, but anyway, I went out and bought some and it was expensive, and then had zero results with it! She provided some seriously good research on it too - andit really seemed to work for her.....so I am cautious not to make the same mistake again!

I am truly hoping it will work for you and the other people who are trying it....I do wonder though what happens when you don't take it anymore...? Does the muscle go and the fat come back again...?
Hmmmm something to look into me thinks!

I think a lot people found it really helped their allergies, so something good did come from that.....but I don't think it did much in the way of weight loss. I hope those of us who are being the "guinea pigs" this time, have good results.

I haven't seen the concerns you sited addressed anywhere. IMO, if it works, I'm sure if you go back to putting back on excessive fat, it'll come back. My plan is to continue weight training to continue building and preserving muscle, and keep fat stores down to what is normal and not excessive again. Abs and hips seem to be very resistant to fat loss, so since CLA seems to help these areas, the plan is to finally get it off and not go back to what we did that put it there in the first place. :)

Ok, I've decided to take 3,000 mg a day.
I only took 1,000 yesterday (1st day).
Here are my measurements:

Upper stomach right above belly button ~ 35"
Waist ~ 36"
Lower stomach right below belly button ~ 38 3/4"

msidbobby, my bottle recommends 3,000 mg a day, too. So I think you're on target there. I'm happy with the results so far. I'm sure I am not imagining it. In fact, this morning I was like "whoa".

I'm sticking with what I'm doing, defintiely. BTW..no noticeable side effects.

Melissa,

I'm going to take three tablets a day, despite what the packaging says. Since we have the same product, I'll be the guinea pig if you want me to  and I'll let you know how it turns out. I don' think it wil do any harm. As I think I posted before, the studies I read showed CLA to be most effective at 3000mg/3g daily.

Hey ladies,

Looks like some of you have had really good results. that is awesome!!! I was thinking, maybe we can post the brand we are using? or is that not allowed here. I don't want to endorse one products over the other, but I was thinking this may be a variable we should consider. I know sometimes products, such as vitamins, weight loss pills/tablets and supplements, may not always have the exact amount that is shown on the label. Particularily, products from foreign countries or products not regulated by the FDA. Does anyone know if this products is regulated by the FDA? Then again, the FDA approved Viaxx and other meds that were later proven to be killers to some. So I guess I should look to them to be the final authority on anything. Anywho, here are the dreaded measurements.

At Navel: 44 1/2"
High Waist: 36 3/4"
Kangaroo Pouch aka Lower Stomach: 46"
L Thigh: 25 1/4"
L Inner Thigh: 28 1/4"

WOW!! Thanks for sharing this info!! :D

Hi Everyone!

I'm over from the M&E thread, but have been following this one since it started. I bought some CLA on Thursday and started taking it. I took measurements before I took my first dose.

My bottle (EAS) says to take 1.5 g three times a day, which is a total of 4.5g. Do you think that is overkill? Should I only take 3 (which will make it last longer)??

I'm *trying* to stay skeptical, and stick with hard numbers instead of going by how things 'look', but so far, so good! :) Next measurement day is Thursday, and I'll report back then. Thanks for this thread and the idea of this experiment!

Regards, Cricket

Shelle, it's totally fine if you don't want to post your measurements right now. Only do it later if you feel like you really want to. It's been mentioned on here before that you're not expected to post them if you don't feel comfortable. The important thing is to keep track on your own. :)

Jimsbride, the most important thing is that you write them down somewhere. It doesn't matter that you don't publish. All that matters is that you can come back and say 'I've lost x inches here and here.'

So far so good. I can't wait to see what happens when I began exercise again.

This is just strictly my opinion. I don't know if it is the CLA working or if it is the upping of fat I'm eating or how strict i am being with my low carb since the day I started taking CLA (last Sunday) Just thought I'd throw that out there. Anyway, I did measure and I am 35 under the breasts and 35 at the waist and 39 at the hips - I've got to be the only one who is the same in upper and lower waist - I hate upper belly fat. I have no shape, it sucks. Unless fat is considered a shape :) - I sound mad - I'm not - just playin.

Annabel33
Sat, Sep-16-06, 22:33
CLA can't be 'upping the fat you are eating' because it's not a fat.
It's a fatty acid. There are links in the thread to how it works and on google. :)

Hope it works for you.

I think you misunderstood what i typed. Let me rephrase - since sunday, i have started CLA, I have upped the fat I'm eating and I have been very strict with my low carb. 3 separate things there. consuming more fat always jump starts me and of course being very strict on my carbs gets me going again and now ther is the CLA - it could very well be getting me going.....also

I haven't purchased mine yet, but I will this week. I read up on it and I think I owe it to myself to try it at least for the next three months. Here is a good link for anyone interested in learning more about CLA (Tonalin).

http://www.tonalin.com/content/view/12/28/lang,english/

Just want to say thanks. :) Read the website and sounds really interesting; I may buy some today. Sounds like it should be safe since it's safflower oil, but just in case (since we often hear years later about important health problems from diet pills), has everyone only read or heard positive things about CLA?

Good luck to all!! I'm also trying to remember to keep up multivitmains and I take a greens supplement (Greens plus); supposed to be good for immune system (equivalent of 6 portions of dark green leafy veggies) and being on low carb, I find helps me stay regular.

Goddessrhi

One of the original LC diets from back in the 60's, I think it was, had the dieters drinking an ounce of safflower to enhance weightloss.

I'm loving the results of CLA so far and staying on it. It has more history to it than I realized until I researched.

As for me, today is day 3. I don't want to remeasure for a week. I tried very hard to measure what I actually was, by relaxing the measuring tape. Not pulling or tugging on it. I hope it helps when I go to remeasure.

Tomorrow I am starting a strict excercising plan. I am IR and so ANYTHING will help with weightloss. I believe I will know when this product works. B/c I will see things going down much faster than other times that I have been on Atkins strictly.

Here's my measurements:
Never mind....they are deleted. I will do as Annabel suggest and just report the difference. Sorry! LOL

Hmmm saddlebags ...mine are on my outer thighs...maybe this will help. :)

I just got a bottle with a 2 month supply, taking it 3 times a day ~ 1000 mgs each.

I just took a couple of measurements:
natural waist- 31"
at Belly button- 35 "
hips- 41"

Thats where I've got a pocket of fat, at the 35 " area. And of course my hips!! But that would require surgery to really make a difference there.

I don't know what you guys are paying for this but I just paid $30- for a 2 month supply. Maybe its cheaper online?

That is excellent and Thanks for sharing it. Too bad I've just gotten my bottle and will not buy it again until I see if I get any results.

Did you read the review about it being an aphrodesiac?
This review is not just for this product, but is for CLA in general. This product is potent. I do believe it promotes weight loss to a minor extent, but I have found its side effects to be more potent than its affects of weight loss. Side effects: 1.Aphrodisiac (at least that is how it affects me). 2.It apparently has some kind of estrogen affect which MIGHT be helpful to someone as an alternative form of estrogen therapy like for hot flashes. I am in the middle of menopause and was so happy to go without my period for a few months and this stuff made it come back, which did not make me happy at all. When I stopped taking it, it went away again. Someone else might say this was a coincidence, but coupled with the aphrodesiac properties of this supplement, I believe it was directly related

I've only been on CLA since last Wednesday, but:

1. There is a definite difference in the way my stomach looks. It looks firmer and tighter, especially in the area above my navel...which at my weight is quite a feat.

2. A couple of the measurements have changed slightly (like 1/4 inch), but like others participating in the experiment, I'm hesitant to call it actual reduction at this point since it could be a slight difference in where I've got the tape.

3. Is anyone else experiencing loss of appetite? Unlike a lot of others who do LC, I am often hungry (not craving the bad stuff, just hungry for the legal stuff), despite eating on a regular schedule. For the last three days, I have to keep reminding myself to eat. If this were the only benefit of CLA, I'd be doing the happy dance!

:

actually I do this whenever I measure - I measure from a landmark - like 3" below lower edge of navel - and put a small spot there with a Sharpie.
Then I measure at that point three times and take the consensus. Next time - measure down 3" again and mark the spot - that way I know I'm in the same spot. For thigh, I measure up from the top of my kneecap (standing). Bicep I measure up from the elbow crease, etc.

Angelpie, I hesitate to say anything, but since you asked....I don't know if it's related to the CLA and I don't know how long it will last, but I have noticed, not so much the lack of appetite, but I'm not hungry as much and can control my eating better. At least for right now.
I've heard fish oil does help keep you satisfied longer if you trickle it in throughout the day, so I'm thinking CLA is having the same effect. Taking the edge off my hunger makes it more manageable and keeps me out of the peanut butter.
I have felt better the past couple of days as well. :)

I was reading about the positive effects of CLA on another thread. I went to Walmart on 9/11/06 and bought some CLA (1000mg) capsules. I am taking 4 capsules a day (two in the morning, and two at night). I am currently at a stall. My weight has been hovering around 182 pounds for a week now. Here are my measurements today: upper abd 36'', waist 38.5 " (the widest girth around my middle), hips 39''. Weight is 182 pounds. Body fat (Tanita scale) 19%. Height 72''

Sara I read on the internet that the effective dose (cited in the studies) was 3.5 grams per day for best results. I am taking four 1,000mg capsules a day, two in the morning with breakfast, and two in the evening after my last meal. Started on 9/11/06. Will see how it works.

My measurements were: 9-14-06
weight: 147
waist at curve: 29
at navel: 31.5
below navel: 33 (I have a uterine tumor the size of a softball in this area)
low hips: 38 (wide part of behind)
thighs: 36.5

9-21-06
weight 144
waist: 28.5
navel: 31
below navel: 32
low hips: 37
thighs: 36

There's my update. It looks impressive. But I'm a firm believer that you must maintain a loss for several days before you can get too excited about it. :)
I really am liking my appetite being more manageable!!

Galatia, those are really impressive results! Fabulous! I am sure that these will spur all of us on to keep on trucking with the CLA.

OK, I'm sad. Day 10, no difference whatsoever. No loss of appetite, no inches or weight lost, etc. I do notice that if I don't eat it with food it makes me feel sick (did it once by accident) but if I eat with food I'm ok. I'm going to keep with it, though, just to see. I bought a two month's supply from iherb.com based on a recommendation from someone in a previous post and it came right away. It was $16 and change including shipping for a 2 month supply, ordered Sunday, arrived yesterday. I was very impressed with their responsiveness in case anyone was concerned about ordering over the internet.
(can someone explain how to include a previous post within yours so you can respond directly to what someone said?)

Wow! I'm so excited...after no change in weight for a month - other than UPWARD fluctuations - I'm down two pounds this morning!

I'm really impressed with CLA. It's not that I think it made me lose weight, per se, but that its effect of lessening my appetite has helped considerably.

When I go upstairs, I'll measure again, and if there are any significant changes, I'll post them.

Actually, my results aren't after taking CLA for a month, they're after taking CLA for a WEEK...with a month of no weight loss preceding that week...

No big changes in measurements (a 1/4 inch here and there), but everything is looking smoother!

I don't know if this will help. I've been taking CLA, 2000mgs once a day since April 20th. I also do Curves three days a week and walk 5 miles a day. I've lost 5.5 inches in my waist, 4.25 in my abdomen and 7 inches in my hips. I feel great, have a good amount of energy...I haven't read this whole post, is this what people are getting?

Well, here I am joining your experiment, a little late in the game.

I went to GNC today to talk with them about my thyroid issue and a bottle of CLA called to me. It jumped into my hand and promised to make a difference in my belly (the last holdout in my WL journey). Since I always believe talking bottles (ok, I actually read this whole thread over the last couple of days and was thinking about it anyway!), I bought it and started taking it today.

The girl at GNC said it might take a month of taking 3-5 x 1000 mg a day consistently to see results. I am hoping to see something faster than that but have a month's supply and faith that this will work.

I am heading to the gym after work today with my new workout buddy from the office. I figured if I gave someone a ride to the gym I would be much more inclined to go!

Best of luck to all, Julie

Just playing catch-up with the posts tonight and I'm getting excited. Today was payday, so I plan to get some CLA tomorrow. I know I need to do something, as I can't seem to get my weight to move much and am gaining/losing that same 2 lbs.

Will (hopefully) post my measurements tomorrow and get started right away.

I can't seem to sleep tonight, so I thought I'd go ahead and post my measurements. One thing for sure--it's scary looking at myself!! Someone mentioned a jelly belly; well I have two of them. It looks as though I'm wearing two tires around my middle. Yuck.

Waist: 35 "
Aprrox. 2.5" below belly button: 40"
Right at belly button: 37"

How often is everyone posting their results? I noticed a few saying that they'd wait for a week to update, is everyone following that plan?

Forgive me if someone posted this earlier..

Has anyone doubled doses to make up for one missed? Any yucky side-effects doing that? Between skipping breakfast (I know that's bad!) and plain ol' forgetfulness, sometimes I only remember to take 2 x 1000 a day...would it hurt to double my lunch dose?

I haven't measured my bulges yet, but my energy levels have been MUCH higher after 4 days on CLA.

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts!

Well, I only check in once a week and I forgot to measure! UGH! Anyway, I have access to a comp. on Friday and Sat. nights so I will measure for tomorrow. But I have seen results. Sunday it will be 2 weeks for me being on CLA and though I haven't measured yet I have squeezed into my 8's. I mean SQUEEZE though - won't wear in public yet. I am a solid 10 and a loose 12. I couldn't get them buttoned 3 weeks ago. I do believe that it is working. However, I do not believe that is the CLA alone that is doing it. I think it is a combination of everything. Low carb, working out and CLA. Who knows, maybe the CLA isn't doing anything since I have become more strict with my work outs and with eating low carb in the past two weeks also. it could be that. Regardless, I am just happy that I am shrinking!

This is day 7 for me. I started CLA on 9/16/06. 4,000mg q-day. I've lost 0.6 pounds. 1" from upper abd, 1'' from waist, hips stayed the same. Body fat at start was 19%, this afternoon 16.6%, (body fat % fluctuates during the day, but I feel that I can see a difference around my middle). I am using a Tanita body fat scale twice a day. I'll stop by daily to read whats going on, and I will check in weekly to let you all know how I am progressing.

I have only taken the CLA for 2 days, so I'm not sure these results are from the CLA or just LC-ing. Anyway, this morning I came up with this:

Waist: 33.5"
2.5" below navel: 37"
Right at navel: 35.5"

I figured the 3" change had to be wrong, but no matter where I put the tape measure, I could not come up with 40". I remembered to take all three doses today. So I'll count today as my day one and guage my progress from here on in. I set myself three daily reminders so I don't forget. Today's measurements:

At Navel: 44 1/2"

L Inner Thigh: 28 1/4"

High Waist: 34" (-1")
JellyBelly bulge: 40" (-1/2")

Ten days ago (Sept 19):
Bust: 40.5"
High waist: 35"
JellyBelly bulge: 40.5"

I would have bet the farm that my measurements would have been lower. I feel my abdomen is smoother and flatter, more taut. Even at a stall (153-155 lbs. for about 3 weeks, bleh..), I really feel and appear to have lost mass.

Oh well..! So far, I am intrigued with the results and definitely am going to keep on with the CLA. It has so many other health benefits as well, it seems to be a worthy supplement for many reasons!

I did my measurements this morning. After being on CLA for one week, I "may" have lost one-half inch on everything. ("May have" because I come up with a different number each time I measure!!)

Here are the numbers:
Waist: down .50" to 33"
above navel: down .50" to 34"
below navel: down .50" to 38.5"
and
hips: down 1" to 38"

Also, after at least 5 weeks of losing/gaining the same pound, I lost 3 pounds this week. How much is LC-ing and how much is CLA, I don't know, but I'm thrilled that the scale is moving and in the right direction. Also, I'm anxious to see what happens after one month on CLA.

My stomach seemed upset once but I make sure I take it in the middle of my meals now and I don't seem to have any probs. Definitely don't take it on an empty stomach...

okay, sorry but I'm new here. What does CLA stand for please?

Thanks in advance and hopefully I'll join in with all of you.

Okay it's a supplement! I went back and read more posts and now I know. So are you all still taking this and is it working for you? I'm starting out and sure could use some help here.

If you read through the thread Cissie, you'll see people are experiencing some losses from the areas around the tummy and hips, as the CLA is meant to work.
If you look at my post above yours, you can see my measurements, so yes, I'd say it's working. :)

I'm in my TOM, but I'm smaller than last month! Despite the bloat I'm down a little.

Wow, Annabel, you are really losing! Good for you!

It's about flippin' time, Jimsbride! Too long too fat! :D The CLA is really bumping up my losses, that's for sure. I've lost weight before and this is much different sort of loss than just diet alone. I can see and feel the difference.

Are you feeling that is it the CLA, or are you really not cheating and doing more excercises too?

I am experiencing no stomach upset, but am raking 2 1000mg. caps WITH FOOD.
I am also starting to workout again and switching from Atkins to South beach. I have finally acepted that I will not lose without exercise. CLA supports reduction of body fat. I seriously doubt it will do much without exercise. I personally need to remember that there is not a "magic pill". Sad.....lol

I think it's mostly the CLA. I have not done more exercise at all, and in fact, have had two days off this weekend whilst hub did my walk with the dog... so if anything, I've done less.
I am just taking the 3000 a day along with normal SB diet food. Have had the odd bit of fruit, a few glasses of wine on my b'day and so have been pretty lax.

I will weigh some time soon when I go to MIL's house (where she has super scale). As long as the trend is downwards, it's all good. :)

I have finally acepted that I will not lose without exercise.

This is so true Peony... Since getting into my walking (high speed, over an hour a day) I wasn't losing anything. Toning up nicely, but not losing weight as such. Since diet, plus exercise and the CLA on top, things are really shifting for me.

It does support reduction of body fat, and also the increase of muscle.
In trials, CLA was found to help get rid of approx 5lb of body fat over one year of usage, WITHOUT doing anything different.
So CLA can, so the science says, help you lose some weight without adjusting your diet.
However, for it to be REALLY effective, mixing diet and the exercise up with the CLA is a sure fire winner for a lot of people. :) It's not a magic pill, but I think it might be slightly enchanted.

After two weeks here are my measurements:

Upper 4.5" above navel -29 (no loss)
navel-31.25" (loss of 3/4")
lower 3" below navel - 32 (loss of 2")

These are great results!

I just bought my third bottle, but its a different brand this time. Instead of taking two capsules, I only have to take one with each meal to get in the full 3,000 mg. I HATE taking pills so this is good for me.

I'm in full ToM, but smaller this week than a week ago. I am still not exercising like I need to (I'm bad, I know), but plan to start tonight. I'm losing inches despite not working out. I noticed with CLA I tend to lose quicker, than before I took the supplement. I'm still hardcore doing this WoE, but with better results.

I don't exercise...I'll probably get around to it when I lose more weight, but for now I don't. AND I'm losing weight wonderfully with CLA. After being stalled for almost five months, I've lost five pounds in the last two weeks since I started CLA. AND I don't understand why, but I also just generally feel better and have more energy than I can remember in a long, long time.

Like a lot of things, it probably works better for some than others...for me, it's been a godsend.

A friend of mine who is a doctor told me that CLA helps with depression according to a recent study she read. She said St. John's was the one everyone was pushing, but CLA is more effective. I noticed overall I've been feeling much more calm.

That is really interesting. I have not thought I was depressed over the last several months, although now I feel so fabulous I actually wonder if I have been! I know my exhaustion is gone...I'm zipping around full of energy and I LOVE that!

Natural waist- 31"/ -.5"=30.5
at belly button- 35"/-1"= 34"
hips- 41"/-.5= 40.5"

I'm very please with the -1" at my belly button!!! :D

Now that's the results I would love to see. I would take this over losing my "tires" if need be. Anymore, it seems like I don't have enough energy to get me through the day. Come on CLA!!

I haven't measured recently so nothing new to report here.
Wow, so much going on here. The depression / CLA link is very interesting. I didn't realize this before but I do seem to be more calm lately, not that I was totally stressed before :D
I'll have to take measurements and post the results soon.

That's exactly what I mean! I've actually commented to my husband that I feel hyper! When I say "zipping around," I mean ZIPPING AROUND! And it's not bad jittery or anything like that, it's full of energy and getting lots done.

Hey Ladies!

Long time lurker first time poster on this thread:)

I went out and bought some CLA yesterday and measured last night. Of course, I left those measurements on my bed instead of bringing them to work.
But today is day one!
I've also been on "low carb lockdown", meaning absolutely no cheats or even sorda, iffa, kinda cheats.
I'm Curving it everyday and trying to add a little something extra. I hope to walk a mile or two and maybe Pilates at night.
I hope I have some great results. It's about 3 months til the new year and want to start it off with a bang!!

I still feel about the same. I have lots of energy but have since I started induction nearly 3 months ago. I wore a pair of shorts today that fit alittle big about 1 1/2 weeks ago but now they're nearly falling off. I've decided to measure every 2 weeks so it's not yet time to measure.

THis is great news!!!! I'll take it for that reason alone AND if I can lose some inches in the process, even better. I have been remembering to take my CLA three times a day this week, so I am anxious to see what my new measurements will be tomorrow.

Still sad. :(
Maybe it's because my fat doesn't really go to my belly, it's all on my legs and butt. Maybe that's why it's not helping. . . .
But I'm going to stick with it, can't hurt. . .

Annabel33
Thu, Oct-05-06, 07:18
Abby, hang in there. I have lost lots off butt and a very small amount off legs.
Keep taking it and maybe over time it will help. Like you say, it can't hurt.

THough I am in my ToM, I'm down quite a few inches all at once in the chubbiest part of my body. It's a big visible difference. My assistant said it was "impressive". She bought CLA today, btw.

I'm still barely exercising, so I know that these results are my diet and CLA. I'm struggling to get my health back after running myself ragged for most of this year.

Anyway, I just want to keep encouraging people to not give up.

Wish mine would work as well for me!!!! Ugh. Am exersising and eating well AND taking this stuff and nothing seems to be working much.
But I am encouraged by other peoples successes, so I will carry on taking it till the bottle is empty and have a measure up then.

I have been on CLA for exactly 4 weeks and there is a difference. Like everything else, maybe it doesn't work for everyone. I say that because i noticed alot of posts where people aren't getting results. Who knows i may have still lost without using it considering I work out alot and eat low carb. But I firmly believe it was a combo of all things. Yippee to CLA - I would be spokesperson for them!

Just finished my second week on CLA and took new measurements.

Bust/Chest: down .5 inches
Waist: down .5 inches
Hips: down .5 inches
Thighs: down .25 inches
Above navel: down 1.5 inches
Below navel: down 1 inch

Also lost another pound and 1" from neck (since August). I am very pleased with my results.

I haven't been doing much different since I started the
