how did you come up with your goal weight?
I put 150 for mine becasue that is about where i was pre-pregancy. I have thought about making it lower, or waiting till i reach 150 and lower it again.
But i dont really know exactly what i should weigh based on my height, bone structure, etc.

People's choice ideal body weight link (http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm)

This is a link to the site that gives a few different ways to see it. It is used by many on this site.

Thanks, Judy. That is a neat site.

Interesting. Although, it says I should be 222 when I enter my STARTING weight (335). And when I enter my current 290, it says I should be 204. I realize it says that this is what people of this size think they should be, and that the medical number doesn't change.... (184 is it's "upper end"). Anyway.... interesting. I am leaving mine at 185 for now. I don't ever remember being less than that!!!

Thanks so much. Apparently i have low expectations for myself
I think i will stay with 150 for now and then move it down later. 150 seems to be atainable at this point. 135 seems so far away to me.

Its not so much as what is attainable as what we can maintain!!

Thats why I chose 160, its the high end for my age, frame and height. But more than that, I cannot maintain weight below 150, too much restriction for me to keep it that low...cuz I like to eat!!! :yum:

But what I eat now is very much different from the way I used to eat....really!! I rarely have flour and when I do, its as a treat. I do eat Wasa crispbreads( No wheat) daily and they give me my crunchy ....plus they are great with hummus or PB!!

We have got to get off the diet roller coaster and go for weight that we can stay at!! :agree:

My dinner tonight...On maintenance.... was a salmon filet, sauteed brussel sprouts in olive oil, garlic and sauce that I made last night when I stewed up a bunch of veggies, and 1/2 Ezekiel muffin to sop up the gravy. :yum:

FYI- Ezekiel is in health food stores in the fridge only. Its a 7 whole sprouted flourless grain bread...heavy, dense and chewy...I like it!! :yum:

I know in the past, I felt the best right around 100. If I continue to eat correctly I can stay in that range. It's only when I go back to the bad eating habits that I start to climb. I am a sweetaholic and it's so hard to not fall back into the old habits.

The tables on that site were pretty close to the goal I have set.
People: 107
Medical: 91-120
Metro Life: 103-113
Robinson: 101

I didn't realize that the medical schedules were so broad. For me, it's a difference of 30 lbs.!

I chose 160 because it is the maximum number for my height. I am "big boned" and I have weighed below 160 at the medium range of my height and I looked unhealthy..like a large skeleton. I was happy between 160 and 170. Even at 180, which is considered overweight and zeroing in on obesity (20 lbs overweight) I looked very good and healthy. After that, I look like a jiggly apple.

I chose 150 because I decided that it would be more a 'comfortable' and attainable weight for me.

My first time around on Atkins, I had a goal weight of 140, and I found it quite a struggle to obtain it and then stay there. Along with a number of other factors, I think that that was one of the reasons I ended up putting weight back on :(. Plus, looking back it was probably too low a weight for my height.

So I do think that Judy has hit the nail on the head when she says that it is more important to be at the weight we can maintain at wihtout too much of a problem, rather than attaining a lower weight that will be a struggle to stay at  :)

Peoples Choice Ideal Weight: 166
Medical Recommendation: 132 - 174 lbs
Metropolitan Life tables: 145 - 159 lbs
Other IBW formulas: Devine: 151 lbs, Robinson: 146 lbs, Miller: 147 lbs, Hamwi: 149lbs

Well, according to that site, my ideal with is anywhere between 121 - 160 lb! 121!!!!!!! They are having a laugh with that one! If I ever was 121 I was about 10 years old!!!

I have set my goal to 185 because I can be comfortable at that weight, I also started out at a lower goal and it seemed too far away, so I changed it. I think at first I had a goal of 165. I might even aim for that once I am at 185 - but the point is, I am not setting myself up for a fall!!

That is what i am going to do. work to one number and then shoot for the next. I really dont know what i can maintain. I went from 200 to 150 in between kids and maintained that for a year (till the next baby) so i think that is a safe start. I think i was in the 130's in college (see my journal pic) but i did not own a scale. That just seems so skinny for me to try to maintain, but on the other hand, it might be worth a shot and compromise in the 140's and maintain there.

My goal is 140. I don't know if that's 100% accurate as I've been overweight since I was in second or third grade. I based that choice on my height (5' 4", although according to that site I should include 1" heels, which would make it 5' 5") and the fact that I have a large frame. In addition, my legs are long--32" inseam--and have a tendency to "muscle up," so I don't think a lower weight would be good for me.

My little sister is the same height, but with a much smaller frame and proportional body (le sigh), I think she is about 120, and that works well for her.

I chose mine because it is the highest I could be and fall into the healthy bmi index for my height. Since I started this to look better and to be healthier that seemed like a good goal for me. I am not a big believer in picking a weight just because it's easy to maintain. I maintained at 230 for years but, I am sure when I was older my arteries, heart, etc would have had troubles. I do think as long as you are within 10-20 pounds of your healthy range for your height that it's fine. I'm just not believing that being 50 pounds higher than the weight you should be for your height is right even if it's maintainable. Did that make any sense? There's something to body shape and metabolism and all that but, I think there's a medical reason for the healthy weight for your height and being too far above it isn't good. I say that but, notice I'm still not at my goal weight! I hope this made sense and didn't come off as offensive. It's jmo.

For my height the range is 109-141.....huge differences. I hope to make it to the high end, not sure if I could do 109 if I tried.
