I do believe that starbucks has sugar free syrups you can add to your drinks. I'm not 100% sure, because I never go there ;)

fru fru coffee is bad coffee, very bad coffee. basically more junk than coffee.
pre pregnancy, i was an atkins girl and dessert was decaf coffee with splenda and half and half at home, but I have gotten in the habit of getting the occasional fru fru drink at starbucks.... a caramel machiato or white chocolate mocha. those are of course big no-no's now that i am back to LC, so if i do continue to do the occasional starbucks run, how would i order? I guess I am asking more for the vocabulary than anything else. Ordering straight off the menu isnt an option anymore.

HEY!!!! Chic!!! YEA! You're here!!!! I have fru fru coffee all the time (ok, once a week, but thats because that's all I can afford)
I order a skinny (skim milk) sugar free vanilla latte. Most places have FOR SURE vanilla in sugar free... the one place I go has sugar free carmel so you could get the caramel machiato made with that.... I've also had the "sugar free irish creme" one place too...
anyway.... LOVE THESE! They are my saturday morning treat at farmers market!!!!
again.... welcome!!!!

I am not a Starbucks fan--too strong for me, but my son-in-law has a coffee shop and he will make the coffee with FF milk, Splenda and sugar free syrups if you want "fru fru" coffee. He makes lattes, machiatto,SF Chai, etc. His shop also sells FF sugar free low carb ice cream. They also make fresh fruit smoothies custom made any way you like, including with Splenda. Yum!

I was ordering the sugar free vanilla latte's also. Then I started ordering just a regulat coffee (i won't give up the caffeine) and I have them put the sugar free syrup and half and half (less carbs than milk in the latte). It's not the true fru fru, but it runs a close second. I have also been buying the sugar free syrups to use at home, they are delicious.

I haven't had one in awhile, but if you order an iced coffee TRUE breve style, it's so rich and delicious. They lighten it with heavy cream. You have to be specific and tell them how much cream because they have a tendency to over do it. I like the SF hazelnut syrup, but most Starbucks have vanilla and sometimes macadamia.

Is it really that bad to have a tall nonfat sugar free vanilla latte every morning? Technically, aren't all the "parts" of the drink acceptable?? I haven't read all of the book yet, but suddenly I was informed about a dairy limit?! Oh no! I better get reading!

A single-shot tall nonfat latte is 12 oz, with maybe 10 oz of that being skim milk... depends on how much foam they put on top. I drink them without any flavoring, so I figure that counts as a serving of dairy.
You can customize a drink any way you want, no special lingo required. Just tell the barista exactly what you want (or don't want) in the drink and they will make it happen. Want less syrup? Just say so. I think they usually put 2-3 "pumps" in a tall which is roughly 2-3 Tbs. That's pretty darn sweet so I always ask for "half the syrup" or "1 pump". Remember, you're paying at least $3.00 for a cup of milk with a squirt of strong coffee in it. Get your money's worth.
I LURVES $tarbucks.

I've always ordered an Iced Venti blended 2.5 Sweet N Low Latte.
Blended means they mix nonfat and regular milk to create lowfat.
Venti means it's the tall one - I believe it's 3 shots of espresso.
I sure hope that's acceptable. But if that's the only milk I drink during the day (perhaps I'll end up with some Yogurt for dairy once or twice a week), I figure I'm ok.
Any thoughts?

Hi Judy, Thanks for the welcome. I just started South Beach about a month ago and have done very well. 17.5 lbs in 4 weeks and going strong.
I just started introducing 2 pieces of fruit a day now - no other straight out carbs. Wish me luck :-)
