Hi all,
I was just pondering the idea of "gurus" & I thought the
following questions may hopefully make some interesting &
entertaining discussion:)
Including people in this newsgroup & others in the field, whom
do you consider to be the present-day "gurus" in nutrition?
...I mean the people who guide others, are inspirational &
highly respected for their work & contributions in this field.
Who is your favourite guru & why?
Please take the question in a light-hearted way. Maybe this is
just a chance to honour someone you respect. Maybe some
readers will check out your "guru" and also enjoy them.

TC wins hands down.
In my view, it is the location in which he protects his head
which gives him a unique and intimate knowledge of the
ultimate fate of calories. From start to finish he is
entertaining, and maintains that inimitable Gallic sense of
humor. Thanks, TC. :-)

THE ADVANCEMENT OF SOUND SCIENCE COALITION [defunct]
O'Dywer's PR Services reports that TASSC is "leading the
charge against what it views as the unholy alliance between
environmentalists and the media" (Feb. 1996).
The office of Stephen Milloy (executive director of TASSC) is
in the headquarters of APCO Associates, a Washington, D.C., PR
firm that specializes in creating coalitions like TASSC.
(Village Voice, April 29, 1997, p. 39)
According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG) this "sound
science" coalition is supported by hundreds of corporations,
including 3M, Amoco, Chevron, Dow Chemical, Exxon, General
Motors, Occidental Petroleum, Philip Morris, Procter & Gamble
and W.R. Grace. Its objective is to act as a speakers bureau
to deliver the corporate message that environmental public
policy is not currently based on "sound science," and to
counter excessive regulations that are based on what it
considers "junk" science.
TASSC, according to EWG, was created in 1993 to promote "sound
science" in policy decision making. TASSC's extensive advisory
board contains well known "science skeptics" S. Fred Singer,
Bruce Ames, Dr. Patrick Michaels, Michael Sanera, and Hugh
Ellsaesser.
Steven Milloy, executive director of TASSC, is a self
styled "junk science" critic who previously launched the
Junk Science Page through the Environmental Policy
Analysis Network (EPAN), a group he started in 1996.
Milloy is also a lobbyist for the EOP Group, a DC-based
lobbying firm that represents the American Crop Protection
Association, the Chlorine Chemistry Council, Edison
Electric Institute, among others. Under Milloy's personal
listing of groups he represents through the EOP Group in
1996 were Fort Howard Corp., the International Food
Additives Association, and Monsanto. According to the most
recent edition of Washington Representatives, Milloy's
client list has grown to include the National Mining
Association, among others. (http://www.ewg.org/pub/home/c-
lear/view/CV_Vol4_No16.html; accessed

"Support comes from companies like Procter & Gamble, Exxon,
Dow Chemical, and Philip Morris."

I wrote that sig, so I know exactly what it means. Anybody
remotely familiar with the literature should intuitively know
what it means. So, TC obviously has my condolences.
The mind-body connection in Great Britain was in common usage
prior to 1859, thanks to a quote made by Florence
Nightingale. http://naturalhealthperspective.com/tutorials/n-
otes-on-nursing.html
The mind-body connection is slang for the more fully developed
biopsychosocial model of health and disease.
http://naturalhealthperspective.com/tutorials/glossary.html
"The complex biopsychosocial model is concerned with illness,
the subjective sense of suffering or reduced capacity to
function. The biopsychosocial model is a much more complex
systems theory approach to health, illness and healing. It
does not look for single, specific causes for illness, but
sees health, illness and healing as resulting from the
interacting effects of events of very different types,
including biological, psychological, and social factors. All
of these are seen as systems that affect and interact with one
another to affect personal health"
So, the mind-body connection consists of three (3) basic
factors of health: biological, psychological, and social.
The most well known biological factors of health would be a
healthy diet, nutritional supplements, and physical exercise.
http://naturalhealthperspective.com
So, I just proved in writing just how stupid and WRONG TC, the
chronic complainer, always is.
Just thought that the ignoramuses on this ng might want to
update themselves on the literature that has existed since the
middle of the 19th century.
Who says so? I do. :)
Feel free to prove me wrong, Ignoramus.
How many people here understand what:
"Eating a healthy diet is a biological factor of the mind -
body connection."
means?

I have set up two different discussion forum groups where we
can discuss this issue, healthy diets, or any other natural
health and wellness issue in more detail.
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Health-with-Attitude/
This Yahoo group offers both privacy and spam filtering.
http://groups.google.com/group/Natural-Health This Google
group is public.

John Gohde, Achieving good Nutrition is an Art, NOT a Science!
The nutrition of eating a healthy diet is a biological factor
of the mind-body connection. Now, weighing in at 18 web pages,
the Nutrition of a Healthy Diet is with more documentation and
sharper terminology than ever before.

Even though I was using a really slow computer, I was still
able to transfer my website to a new server. This computer
only has 28K of RAM. :(
Today, I bought a Dell DHP computer for $150 from Jesus Saves
Thrift Shop in Richmond, VA. All the software was operational
and included.
:)

desktop computer with XP Professional operating system.
Features: Intel Pentium 4 2.26GHz processor, 256MB of RAM,
40GB hard drive, one cd-rom drive, one floppy drive, keyboard,
mouse and 14 inch monitor. Measurements: 13.75" x 4" x 12.5".
My web journeys should get smoother. Everytime I buy another
computer, I get more value for less and less money. :)
TC who?, I say. Sorry, but I have my own flock of followers to
attend to. I do not have time for mentally challenged low
achievers who are unable to keep up with 150 year old
literature on the mind-body connection.
Remember this TC, Jesus saved me from my computer troubles. I
will pray for your salvation, TC. :)

Your negativity matches that of an ignoramous that is 150
years out of date.
All it takes is one hot air balloon to start talking on these
groups. I have great confidence that a talkative person will
soon find these forums.
And, you are still the idiot who knows absolutely nothing
about the mind-body connection. And, I do not mind saying that
you are total buffoon.
And, now THAT I have a XP professional computer with 256K of

The simple fact of the matter is that no-one and I mean
NO-ONE is interested in your point of view. The complete
lack of traffic on your site and on your groups reflect that
very clearly.
You are irrelevant. And I will now join the rest of the world
in ignoring you.
And that ain't much RAM. XP won't run ot that. It needs 256
MEGS. Idiot.

Well, you are the one who is the idiot.
I clearly wrote new rules on both groups. The google group up
till now had moderated messages. Now, all members can
immediately post.
The yahoo group was a newsletter which was inactive due to my
own design. I changed it to a public discussion group format.
During my absence, I have noticed that yahoo has added a spam
filter option. This could be what is needed to auto filter out
spam. If it works, I might start yet a 3rd group.
The primary problem has been my major computer failure. I was
using a HP computer which apparently had a defective system
board. It finally gave up the ghost, when Windows98 decided to
stop working entirely. All my recent data is NOT accessible by
me and may never be. Even when it was working, it only had 64
Megs of Ram. :(
> And that ain't much RAM. XP won't run ot that. It needs 256
> MEGS. Idiot.
That is correct, it is 256 Megs rather than K.
My new baby XP is too good to waste on the Internet. I was
going to buy one for around $500 to 600. Now, I do not
have too. :)
Last year, I fished a Windows95 computer system out of the
dumpster. I never did much with it because it was somewhat
password protected. Turns out that it has 40 Megs of Ram. And,
because Windows95 is smaller the online speed is quite
acceptable. Even with its 28K modem, my ISP software is
reporting the fastest connection speed ever: 56K!!!! How a 28K
modem can connect at 56K is beyond me. Its only real problem
is a 1 Gig HD.
So, the Window95 computer is now my trash computer used only
for the Internet. For $15, the price of a Ethernet card, it is
connected to my XP computer for file transfers. The only
computers dying on me now, will be my Internet computers.
Because they keep on locking up.
So, now that my Internet activities are nolonger painfully
slow. I will start promoting both groups. And, you will remain
a Kook as always. :)
Just thought that you might want to know.

John Gohde, Achieving good Nutrition is an Art, NOT a Science!
The nutrition of eating a healthy diet is a biological factor
of the mind-body connection. Now, weighing in at 18 web pages,
the Nutrition of a Healthy Diet is with more documentation and
sharper terminology than ever before.
http://naturalhealthperspective.com/food/
I have set up two different discussion forum groups where we
can discuss this issue, healthy diets, or Natural Health and
Wellness issues in more detail. Both groups have around 250
members each. Why not explain it to a new audience?
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Health-with-Attitude/
This Yahoo group offers both privacy and spam filtering.
http://groups.google.com/group/Natural-Health This Google
group is public.

What the fuck does that mean?????????

Sort of like John Gohde, then. After all, who's going to
listen to someone who thinks:

continue to suffer from the presence of the negro variety of

Ditto!
Yeah, the variety of human beings who kill people for
absolutely no logical reason like the Harvey family in
Richmond, VA on new years day. The dude cut their throats.
And, kept on banging them in the head with a hammer because
they kept on geting up. Not to mention their two little girls.
That dude was just convicted of murder in only 30 minutes.
They don't have OJ style trials in Virginia. :)
Just thought that you might want to know that you are in
the minority.

Carl Pfeiffer.
When I knew him, he was the founder and chief poobah of the
Brain Bio Center, in Princeton (actually Skillman), NJ, where
he'd set up an incredible laboratory of very state-of-the-art
equipment, with which he made major contributions to
biochemistry, and wrote _Mental and Elemental Nutrients_,
_Zinc and Other Trace Elements_, and many, more specialized,
books and articles on the brain and how various environmental
conditions (including, but not limited to, diet) affected it
and caused or cured problems, such as the dozen-or-more kinds
of headaches, the half-dozen biochemical profiles of
schizophrenia, previously unknown effects of trace elements
and their interactions, unknown blood constituents, and so on.
He was often regarded as connected with the
"orthomolecular" school, though at its cutting edge: doing
his own thing, rather than following the others. He admired
their early leaders.
He had two doctorates and had been the chief research
pharmacologist of the U.S. Navy for twenty or thirty years.
His wife, too, had a doctorate (in pharmacology, I think), and
worked together with him.
He did me a special favor. Knowing I wanted the full battery
of tests his lab could run (mass spectroscopy,
electrophoresis, etc.: things now much less exotic than they
were then) on my hair, blood, feces, urine; but that I was
strapped for cash, he invited me to come over on a quiet
weekend to help him paint a wall of the building! While we
worked, we discussed the "Krebs cycle" and "Embden-Meyerhoff
pathway", and he told me (to my surprise) that though many
people studied them, few mastered them, yet they were the
"keys to everything" (whatever that meant!). I'm still
learning, bit by bit (30 years later), what he had in mind. In
fact, it was only recently that I discovered there was more
(much more!) to metabolism.
But I've never found anything he was wrong about, except
_maybe_ (I emphasize maybe) what the ideal dietary
sodium/potassium ratio ought to be. He was very pro-potassium,
perhaps too much. On the other hand, it might just have been
me. I eliminated as much sodium as I could from my diet,
including not only added salt and meats, but even onions,
celery, etc. Then one hot day in New Orleans, I took a bit of
salt on a hunch and discovered I felt much better within
seconds. Hyponatremia! And I thought it couldn't happen....

You do NOT have a point, nor a brain. :)
In Virginia criminal trials do NOT go on for months and
months. A few days at most. :)
That Black dude was convicted in only 30 minutes by a jury of
his peers. Personally, I think the police should have
exterminated him on the spot. Would have saved the taxpayers a
whole lot of money.
All you academics should stay out of Virginia. Just like
Texas, Virginia believes in executing people. :)
Just thought that Academic slime balls might want to know.

Sorry about the name; my son gave it to me as a joke many
months ago, and sometimes it just shows up.

Well, yes. It usually occurs when I post to a group other than
mha; I never remember to check which name is up there. Since
in this case the post was to a breast implant group I've never
visited before, it happened here.
Why; what possible problem can you have with this? Do you hav
e any conception of how stupid you appear?

Sure, Jan. That's why I posted it: so no-one would read it.

Well, NO she did NOT.

Jan, did you have a point, other than proving yet again that
you don't know the meaning of the word "lie", and that you're
a half-witted, nasty old bint?
Your jumping in here, presumably to defend Gohde, is a
surprise, of course, since he's the only person here who
actually makes your vile anti-semitism, homophobia and various
other bigotries look relatively
mild.

My point is clearly posted.

Insults and lies are noted.

Your ASSumption is 100% wrong--as usual.
I did NOT defend Gohde.

Diversion noted.

Who is your favourite nutrition guru?
Who is my guru? Why me, of course.
And, this guru has a web site. :)
--
John Gohde, Achieving good Nutrition is an Art, NOT a Science!
The nutrition of eating a healthy diet is a biological factor
of the mind-body connection. Now, weighing in at 18 web pages,
the Nutrition of a Healthy Diet is with more documentation and
sharper terminology than ever before.
http://naturalhealthperspective.com/food/
I just got finished moving my site to a new server. :)
It is now actually working, the way it is supposed to.
Redirection is offically a thing of the past.
I can now have up to 500 different POP3 email accounts with
auto-responders. Complete with spam filters.
And, my new web site statistical package just blows me away. I
can even design custom reports.
If I wanted to I can add a big database and a professional
blog package.
It is on a Linux server, so I can now store up to 15 Gigs of
files off my computer on my web site that will remain
invisible to the public; due to how Linux works.
On top of all that, I have managed to cut my operating cost
down to less than in half of what I was previously paying. :)
I am now paying the staggering sum of USA $0.004 an hour, 24
hours a day, 7 days a week to keep my web site running.
Clearly, you clowns could never afford $0.004 an hour to run a
real web site.
Just thought that you geeks might want to know. :)
