Today was day 14 on Phase 1, and as of this morning, I weighed 190.5 pounds - down almost 8 pounds in 14 days! :cheer: Breaking 195 was huge for me psychologically, because I haven't been below 195 since 2001, the year I was pregnant with my son. I also went jeans shopping yesterday and I'm back in a size 14, which is thrilling. However, I am scared to death of Phase II because Phase I was so successful and so easy for me. I enjoyed the meals I ate and I love how I lost my cravings for junk!

I've read the book, and I know I shouldn't stay on Phase I longer than 14 days, but honestly, it's a little scary to begin adding things back to my diet. I'm looking forward to having fruit again, but I know I'm going to have to ramp up slowly on the other things. I honestly don't care if I ever eat bread, or tortillas or pasta ever again. I just don't miss them at all.

"slow and steady wins the race".... or something like that. Add 1 serving of fruit back a day, berries, or other lower sugar fruit, and just see how your body reacts. FRUIT is a HUGE hangup for me, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the stuff... so I have a 2piece a day only 3 times a week rule...the other days, only 1.

You can do it...! And good job on the loss thus far!!! WOOT WOOT!!!

Congratulations Ginny. The first two weeks is the hardest. Maybe just add in one phase two food at a time and you will be fine. Best wishes to you.

:agree:  I totally agree with Camelle!! Add in only fruit first week....see how you do.... you can always drop back to phase I if you stop losing.

Good luck!! :D

Also, keep in mind that its during phase II that we carve this thing out to make it a lifestyle and not just another diet. Its in phase II that we get to figure out what foods and how many times a day, we can eat them.

ie: grains.....I found out that wheat triggers my appetite...so I avoid wheat but will eat rye and oats without being triggered. I eat Wasa Rye crispbreads, 1 cracker 2 times a day even in maintenance. I still do avoid most flour, especially low carb flour...that is evil stuff!!

But without trying all these foods as you are losing, you'll never find out what you can eat when you reach goal!!!

I'm also just moving into Phase II, after 2 weeks on Phase I. Foxgluvs very kindly posted the following in my journal last week - and I'm sure she won't mind if I post it again here. I began yesterday by adding back some fruit. I plan to add some fruit every other day this week, and will then try it every day for a week, next week - and then go on from there.

Now, just a teeny weeny word of caution.....WHEN you start to introduce carbs back into your plan, please please please be aware that you need to do it carefully, slowly and methodicaly! Often (I have had the babes thread running for over a year, and I see it ALL the time) people go mad thinking they can add in everything on the phase 2 lists all at once. The tendancy is to think weh-heyyyy and just eat and eat - and even though you are eating the right things, you can often find yourself stalling out because you have done it too quickly.

When you come to introducing stuff back in, stay away from flour - big time. Don't get into the 'LC bread products' mentality because it almost certainly WILL stall your weight loss. Try to add in fruit first - one piece of fruit every other day for a week and see how you go. Then if you get on with that, add back in one whole grain (oatmeal is a really good one) into your diet say twice the next week, continuing with the fruit. Then on week three you might add in say some carby veggies, like a small sweet potato, or even a portion of basmati rice. The point I'm trying to make is that if you go from eating the way you are into eating everything off of the list all at once you will not lose any more weight.
Flour really should be the last thing you add back in to your plan - and that needs to be once you're almost at goal and entering pre-maintanence.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone!! Very, very good advice from all of you. I know I need to take it very slowly. When I was doing Protein Power and counting carbs, I wasn't losing any weight and I'm convinced it was from too many LC products like tortillas and whatnot. I'm looking forward to some strawberries in my morning yogurt today, but outside of that, won't be making any other changes right away.

I think adding just a fruit a day or so in at first is good. I wouldn't jump the whole way in right away. If you add just one thing in new you can tell how it affects you. I will tell you honestly I can't do a full phase 2 and lose weight. I hope that you can as many, many people can. I do a phase 1.5 still and probably will until maintenance. Even then I am not sure I'll ever get to phase 3 maybe just phase 2. I am extremely sensitive to sugar/flour.

Very good!! You will do just fine with a little fruit!!

FYI- we are warned to stay away from processed low carb products as the processing raises the GI of the food. ie: LC tortillas!! bad stuff!! ;)

You are a wise woman.....I can tell you that in phase 3, I've gotten lax with my counting of how many servings of grain, nuts, cheese ...that I allow myself each day. I got carried away  and am now working on losing 2 lbs that I gained. Not really a big deal but it is to me and being vigilant is necessary for me. I am still sugar and wheat free though. :D
