I have been shedding SO much hair lately. Aftr thyroid tests, blood tests etc my dr has determined it's from extreme weight loss. They feel basically once my weight stabilizes my body will readjust and it will go back to normal. I don't know that I'm confident on that diagnosis though. I started at 233ish in february/january and am now at 162 6-7 months later. That doesn't seem extreme to me. The dr didn't feel my eating was unhealthy and I took in sample menus that he said were great and at the right calorie level but, he did say I should add more healthy grains in as recommended on phase 2. I am struggling with this issue and I cannot add them in and not gain. I am not sure why? :help: I hope to be able to add a few more when I get to my goal. I do think I am someone who just can't have grains daily. I have fruit 4-5 times a week and grains 2-3 times a week but, more than that and I stop losing. I am just not sure what to do. He did say this is the best lifestyle possible and the best way of eating for your body not just to maintain weight but, to be healthy which was nice to hear.

You know, I've had a lot of hair loss to. I had it while I was not good proteins and carbs. Everytime I went on Atkins I would hit a huge hair growth spurt and get thick again and then when I fell off the wagon, my hair would shed shed shed... It's still shedding like crazy.

Have you tried evening primrose oil?

I have been taking it since right after surgery and it has helped me alot. I had shedding of hair prior to surgery and now since taking it, I see fewer and fewer hairs in my brush.

I had a lot of hair loss, all at once, several months after starting Atkins. It did slow down to normal levels. Just a body stress thing.

Thyroid disease causes hair loss. And just because your tests say you are fine doesn't mean you don't have thyroid disease. I had acceptable tests and actually had thyroid disease for 20 years before it was diagnosed. You might want to ask to see an endocrinologist just in case. There are many signs of thyroid disease and I doubt that anyone has all of them. There is a forum here for people with it. You might want to checkit out.

oh and I have found a book called the Hair Bible by Philip Kingsley and there are several Over the counter drugs and prescribed Meds that can cause Hairloss. Let me know what Meds you are taking and I can look it up and let you know. For example the Meds I am taking both for Blood pressure and Cholesterol are listed in this book for causing Hair loss.

Thanks guys! I looked up primrose oil and it looks safe enough. I might give it whirl see if it helps! I don't take any meds other than a daily vitamin.
