I am leaving bright and early Sunday morning, for a week long vacation. I WILL STAY ON PLAN! period. I am trying to plan things ahead, and bring foods with me (for the 10 hour car trip) that I CAN have. (boiled eggs, cheese, nuts, apples, canned tuna and a mayo packet....) We are staing in a fully furnished condo (including kitchen) so THAT will be helpful that I can make whatever I want for meals. I am hoping to lose some "extra" weight, with all the walking, swimming, lugging of small children....

Anyway, any other words of advice or helpful hints for a week long trip with a friend who is not lc'ing, and 4 kids, aged 1,2,4, and 6?

Camelle, thankfully these days we have more options when it comes to fast food. Most places offer salads, grilled chicken breast sandwiches(just throw away the bread) and some even offer fruit cups if you need that little pick me up and you are not in phase one. You might try going to gordon food service and see if they have individual packets if some kind of lc dressing to take with you. Of course on a ten hour car ride you won't be eating all that much. You didn't mention where you are going but in most sit down restaurants if you explain that you are eating for your health (they will assume it is doctor's orders) they will prepare a meal to your specifications. If all else fails just explain that you are allergic to many things.. It is the truth, you will break out in fat.

Camelle,
I just returned last week from a 2 week vacation. Was totally stressed prior to my trip. I just kept to the plan, tried to make wise food choices and also took along the handy printout from SBB on take out food choices. That helped us because I also had a say in where to stop for food. I was with 2 teenagers who absoultely do not need to worry about their carb intake. But they were also aware of my feelings about how I wanted to stay within my plan and helped a lot. Talk with your friend, I am sure you will get the support and can work together for meal times.

I too took along a cooler with food for me. Another thought, I brought along my own bottled water. It was cheaper to pick up a case of water at home than to stop and buy bottles along the way.

So....after all the stressing, eating foods that I probably should not have, I did end up losing 1 lb. If you are careful and I know you are, you can do it!!

Have a great vacation and enjoy yourself. Have fun with the kids and keep in mind all your activities are helping to keep the pounds off as well.

Relax and enjoy yourself. I don't think we ever took a real vacation the entire time our 4 kids were growing up, but we did travel all over the world with them during my husband's Air Force career.

Since you will have a refrigerator, don't forget to bring celery sticks and either peanut butter or hummus (whichever you prefer) and other cut up veggies or buy them there. I saw the neatest thing which I think would be neat for a trip called Eggology. They are egg whites in a cup. You just microwave them and they scramble while cooking. No raw eggs to deal with on a trip. I saw them at my local Kroger grocery store last week but I haven't bought them yet.

ps: If you can find these you can microwave them beforehand to eat on the trip with the veggies. :)
