hi all,
quick question. i am pressed for time in the morning much of the time and have been making shakes in the morning with: designer whey powder, water, ice and teaspoon of peanut butter. it's really great and only has maybe 5 carbs and about 20 grams of protein.
just wondering if it's ok to do this every day or if i should try to eat eggs half of the time. any thoughts??

Is it working for you?? If so then I say keep it. If it stops working for ya then ditch it.

Most of us fall into comfortable patterns of one kind or another. You're getting protein and fat for energy in the morning, and that's healthy. As long as you like it, I don't see why not.

what are other things that you can put into the shakes to keep them under 5g of carbs?

if i don't put peanut butter in it, then it's only 2 gr carbs. so that's what i've been doing instead. tastes fine that way too.

I was looking at a can of Designer Whey today about $10 US. Not sure if I need it with all the eggs and meat I eat. I prob only need 60 grams of protein / day at my age and it would be hard to include since I only have two main meals / day.
My main concern was the quality of the stuff so I thought I would ask here. Also I think all the tins I saw were flavored, do they make plain? Can raw egg be added?

I just recently added unsweetened coconut milk to my chocolate whey shakes and it was great! :yum:

Try adding avocado and cocoa powder to your whey protien shake.

avocado???? that might be interesting enough to try! I think whey always equals 2g of carbs for one scoop...no matter what the flavor. I have French Vanilla and that is what the side says.

I put at little liquid in as possible. I use 2 scoops of the powder and mix it with about 2oz of water and 1oz of half and half. Tastes like thick chocolate milk and I can finish it in a couple seconds :)

Ok this is perhaps the best tasting protein shake I've found and I've been drinking them for probably 4 years. It's the #1 sellling protein shake.
Optimum 100% Whey Protein (http://bodybuilding.com/store/opt/whey.html)
Then I just started drinking Syntrax Matrix 5.0 (http://bodybuilding.com/store/syn/matrix.html) at bedtime as it's a slow release protein casein. It doesn't taste very good IMHO, but I don't want to sleep on an empty stomach.
I frequently order from bodybuilding.com, but you can get a better overall price (usually a couple bucks) at bulknutrition.com. BB pricematches, but it's a joke, you have to jump through so many ropes to do it.

I just discovered Any Whey Unflavored Protein. It's 17 g protein and 1 g carb per scoop. I get it at GNC.
It's formulated for cooking and can be used well in shakes.
I mix it with splenda and raspberries with some heavy whipping cream and ice. Sometimes I use sugar free jello flavors too. Today I made a smoothie with chocolate flavored jello powder, one square of Lindt chocolate, and heavy cream. I tossed in several ice cubes and it turned out pretty good.
