Hi guys, this is my first post ever. I' ve been reading for a few weeks, you have helped me tremendously this past 2 weeks. I have been very disappointed with my results, only five pounds(atkins). I have traded one addiction for another, I was drinking about 4 regular cokes a day. Now I drink at least 2 diet AW Rootbeer
a day. I am wondering if this has affected my loss. I am normally a walker, but for the past 2 weeks I have been too tired to exercise. I really want to add more carbs (fruit or low carb bread), but I would really like to drop 15 or 20 more pounds before adding on. I've read the book and I am also wondering if maybe I didn't eat enough fat (I am in ketosis used strips). Please any input or suggestions would be appreciated. I am finally off the sugar and I want to keep losing but I would like to see better results, my husband has lost 12 pounds on the program[/FONT]
thanks

Maybe an Atkins person should answer this, but, diet sodas do seem to cause some people to stall. You might want to try getting rid of them for a week or so and see what happens. Best Wishes to you.

Most men lose faster then most woman, not fair, but true. If your soda has aspertame it might be slowing you down, splenda sweetened works better for most people. You should get back to walking, too, thay will help, and just hang in there, the weight is comming off!

6foot, 5 lbs in two weeks is great, just hang in there and u will keep losing. The diet soda, I don't think two a day is going to slow u. And u are in ketosis so relax and go forward. Stay away from the low carb bread and other lc treat for awhile. And fruit the lower carb blue berries, strawberrys, should only be added later on. If I were u I'd stay on induction for another week see if u go down more. Good luck

If you aare following Atkins you will need to read up on the second stage of it where you learn what foods affect you and how many carbs you can eat and still lose weight.
This is the Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) stage where you will add 5 net carbs of the different OWL 'levels/rungs' in the order laid down.
Most people agree that a 5-10% loss on induction of what you hope to lose is average - you have 50 to lose and lost 5 = 10% of your total so you are about spot on!!

Are you drinking enough water as well as those diet sodas?

If you're used to walking more, and you suddenly cut back, there's going to be a shift on the "in-vs-burned" equation. Could be that it's July; could be ketosis--they both have an effect on exercise. Shake it off and get moving--that's generally the best fix for "tired." At least, it swaps "blah" tired for honest tired.

How long did it take you to gain the weight? At 10# a month, you'll be where you want to be in six months. Is that going to be long enough to learn to live differently?

I would expect the "its July ..." effect. The heat has made me gain some. Make sure you get enough minerals like potassium to balance the salt or sodium or you can retain water and run low on energy. Spinach and avocados can help.

A 10 pound loss seems to be normal during induction, I lost 10 in 11 days with 33 to go. Most of this loss is your stored sugars and the water that binds them in the liver and muscle [glycogen]. I agree to always folow the OWL rungs, I think fruit and bread are last. Modern fruit is way sweeter than what was available Centuries or even decades ago-- fruit now is truely "natures candy."

Also watch that A&W root beer. It contains aspartame as the artificial sweetener and somewhere around 25% of people have an insulin response similar to sugar when they consume it. Not that this is necessarily true in your case. I generally don't drink anything but water, but if you want soda, those sweetened with Splenda (or sucralose) tend to be popular on Atkins.

As far as your loss in general, your weight loss isn't abnormally low. If you are in ketosis, you are burning fat.

I have to keep my soda to one diet per day and then tea and water the rest of the time.

I agree with everything said here, but want to add that just because you aren't losing lbs. doesn't mean you aren't losing. Did you measure yourself before you started? There were times when I wouldn't be losing on the scale, but the inches were coming off.

Don't be discouraged. You're doing great!

I too had a really hard time in the beginning. It turns out I was eating too much. I am an overeater and the freedom of eating until you feel full got me interested. To get some weight loss, I had to join OA to realize I was an overeater and that I had to control my portions.

I've seen several posts from frustraited wives whose husbands are dropping the pounds, yet the scale isn't moving for them. If you weigh less than your husband, you need to eat less.

Show us what and how much you are eating - that way we can get to the problem.
