I'm going on vacation for two weeks. We'll be driving cross country. I'm currently on day 13 of induction and would like to keep it up until I lost a lot more weight. Anyway, I need ideas of what snacks I can pack and ideas of what of to eat when we stop at places like Sonics, etc for a quick meal. :help:

TIA

Make a copy of the list of allowed foods and have it with you when you order/buy food on the trip. AS long as you eat from that list you will be fine.

I usually take some packs of dressing with no added sugar with me in case the places we are eating have no idea what is in their own dressings!

Easy salad dressing is to sprinkle a bit of alternative sweetener over salad moistened with vinegar. Most places will be able to offer vinegar. You can create an interesting sweet and sour dressing with just vinegar and sweetener (just a little). Many places are now listing low-carb versions of their burgers, sold with lettuce wrapped around meat and cheese. If not, ask. Many times the cost is less for not buying the bread. Do ask. Staple fallback for me is tinned sardines. Can't hurt to have a few cans on hand for emergency rations. Just be sure to have a bag to wrap up the empty tin, like a ziploc bag. Empty tin is stinky. I get the sardines in olive oil, so I can moosh up the fish and moisten it with the olive oil. Works for me!

Thanks for the tips. I was thinking I could bring cheese sticks and salami to snack on. When we stop to eat, eggs and bacon, maybe an omelette. It's the drive thru places I'm nervous about. I know Carl's Jr. has the low carb burger but not sure about other places. It can't hurt to ask for my burgers without bread.

Thanks again everyone :-)

Burger king has a low carb option, where they put your patties and cheese in a little box with a fork.

I'm going to check out the website now, but is it written up on the menu specifically as an option. Just curious about what to ask for! :)

Get yourself a cheap styrofoam cooler. The morning you leave, fill the cooler with ice and the following foods:

low-carb pepperoni sticks (watch the carb counts, read the labels)
individually wrapped cheese portions (such as Babybels or cheesestrings)
a few cans of Slim Fast Low Carb Vanilla Shakes
a few cans of Slim Fast Low Carb Chocolate Shakes
a few foil pouches of tuna - I've even seen drained tuna in those pudding cup type containers, with peel-off foil "lids" nowadays.
a few hard boiled eggs
perhaps even some pre-cooked chicken breast slices you've made the night before (marinate a bunch of chicken breasts in Newman's Own Italian dressing, throw on the BBQ and grill till done...cool in fridge, then slice or cube and place into a tupperware type container).

These are the kinds of foods you can eat while stuck in the car. When you hit a town, make sure you go to the grocery store and stock up your cooler again, and when you stay in a motel, you can refresh the ice in the cooler from the ice machine.

Also good are these pre-cooked, pre-cut packages of chicken breasts - do you know what I mean? They come in a ziploc bag and have a red cardboard packaging outside that - usually only 2 carbs for the whole package. These'd be good for your cooler too - just rip off the red cardboard and pack the ziploc bag of chicken.

By the time you get to any fast food place along the way, you won't be nearly as hungry because of all these low carb snacks you've been eating in the car - and there are tons of great choices besides bunless burgers - I quite like Wendy's salads - very refreshing and filling.

Have fun!

Salads, salads and more salads. Make sure to eat big breakfasts of eggs and bacon; I find filling up on breakfast makes it easy for me to last through the day without feeling famished. I also pack morning start bars as an absolute last resort, and they've come in handy. Also cheese, if you like it.

Too bad nuts aren't on induction!
