Does it not have directions on the pack? ;)

You don't say why you are taking it, but milk thistle is usually used to support the liver.

Have you done a web search? That should yield plenty of information about dosage. I hope you find what you are looking for. :)

One softgel once or twice daily. I read a post here somewhere that it also helps with going to the rest room. I'm having problems in this area. I'm wondering if it would help if i took more.
Thanks,
L

As far as I know, milk thistle is useful for constipation that arises due to liver dysfunction.

IMO, unless you have liver problems, you'd be best to stick with a fibre supplement, such as sugar free Metamucil. Also, be sure you are getting plenty of water, as well as plenty of fat in your diet.

HTH :)

I heard that milk thistle is helpful in supporting regularity, but not as effective in stimulating movement. I'd do a quick Google on something like "milk thistle laxative" and see what you come up with!

Are there any side effects or interactions?

Milk thistle extract is virtually devoid of any side effects and may be used by most people, including pregnant and breast-feeding women. In fact, it has been recommended as a treatment for itching due to poor gallbladder function during pregnancy.17 Since silymarin stimulates liver and gallbladder activity, it may have a mild, transient laxative effect in some people. This will usually cease within two to three days.

Doesn't look like a viable remedy for constipation. The magnesium doesn't work for me either. My doc told me to buy a stool softener called Colace and Wal-Mart has the Equate brand at about half the cost. I don't normally have a problem, but I just had part of my colon removed for chronic diverticulitis and my bowels are not functioning quite right just yet.

I do take milk thistle because I was on antibiotics by mouth for two months and then in the hospital for another month getting I.V. antibiotics around the clock. They nearly destroyed my liver in the process. I have blood work on Monday to see if things have improved. I'm hoping the milk thistle has helped.

Sunny!
