Are you on Induction?
Sweet potatoes would be a No on atkins Induction but summer squash ie: zucchini and yellow squash, not winter, would be OK for Induction.
Winter squash would be butternut squash which is high in carbs and considered a starchy veggie.
Good Luck!!

A sweet potato has 20 net carbs; I used to eat them all the time on South Beach (diet) they are very nutritious and low-glycemic, much better than white. Dr. Atkins has them on the "poison" list though. Some say you can live on sweet potatoes alone. If gas gets much higher I may find out if its possible :o
Half cup of butternut is 8 net carbs and my be a better choice?

Spaghetti squash and the ones Judy mentioned, are on the Induction list. You get sweet potatoes back much later, well into OWL. Not everyone can eat them and lose weight, but many can.
You have the book and reviewed the Acceptable Foods list, yes?

Eventually you can have anything except sugar and refined flour and still be following Atkins. If YOU can handle it. I love squashes and pumpkins and sweet potatos, and have all in moderation now.

Thanks for the info - I guess they will just have to wait (like many other things) and yes, I did read the book but funny it seems when you really like something you try to see if anyone else is eating it even thou the book says no - maybe for permission?? Anyway YES I totally agree with the gas comment!! I have a teenage daughter in Hockey and we travel - I told her this winter she better dress warm and get her thumb ready to do some hitch hiking !! HA HA
