Hi -

I am 165 (5 foot 6) going to 130, and just started Atkins up today (I did it a few years ago too). I also started working out 6 days a week about three weeks ago. My guess is that working out will cause some problems with my Atkins diet in that after a hard work out, I can see visions of carbs dancing before my eyes!

Today I tried a Myoplex bar with only 3 grams of carbs and while it tasted like dish soap, it did kill the carb craving (and stopped me from making a Burger King detour!) If only I could find a low carb bar that tasted better!

Anyway, it would be great to buddy up with someone also trying to work out and lose weight.

Welcome to the forum, Kim. :)

Congrats on the new LC WOL and the increased exercise! You might want to moderate your activities over the next week or so as you get into LCing - your body can take a good week or two to adjust to burning a new fuel. You'll find your intensity will suffer and you'll need to work your way up to your pre LC levels - but you'll get there.

Are you taking a good multi-vitamine and / or supplements (http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29218&highlight=calcium+magnesium+how+much) ? You'll find the right ones in the right combinations can make a world of difference.

There's a great little button on the right at the top of ever page for searching this site (the globe icon), you might want to click and type in "Low AND carb AND bars" and see what you find - but be warned, it's rather shocking ;)

Happy hunting, and happy LCing

I did the search you recommended and then read the stuff about alcohol sugars. very interesting. My older son is diabetic and I didn't even know this stuff. Wow.

Anyway, I did the math on my Myoplex bar and came up with 14 hidden carb grams. I guess that isn't so bad. Especially considering that I had only six other grams of carbs today. Still under 20...but then again, I'd rather have something tastier for the carbs. On the other hand, the bar is totally packed with nutrients and protein. Augh.

Well, thanks again for the tip.

You're welcome, Kim. And sorry to burst that bubble :)

You'll find that life will be a lot more enjoyable LC wise if you focus on getting those 20g a day from natural sources - especially those vegetables. Eating less than 30g of carbs a day really won't increase fat loss (in most) And eating too little carbs can cause problems - the vegetables will provide the fiber and micronutrients you need to stay healthy and regular. Constipation isnt pleasant. Should you find yourself heading down that path (or experiencing the opposite - which is not uncommon when starting out) check out the Low Carb Tips section at the top of each page in orange highlight - theres a great article on Intestinal Health by Doreen that answers just about any question you might have.

Cheers,
Nat
