Ha, ... Hah, Ha! His beloved chocolate is made from a bean. :)
Beans as in Legumes are stored dried as a seed. Unlike grains,
NORMAL people soak beans overnight in order to soften them.
Fully cooked beans are soft as butter and practically melt in
your mouth. There is absolutely nothing hard to digest about
either beans or nuts.
The dude is probably against flatulence, because he has
refused to accept the fact that he has a physical body just
like a dog does. :(
But, from looking at the above horror story it is obvious that
this Kook called Monty eats EXACTLY the opposite of what most
NORMAL people would call a healthy diet.

Actually yes there is. Soaked or not, beans are extremely
difficult to digest. I am not sure if it's because of its
sugars (I think beans are about 50% carb and 50% protein -- a
tough combination). Lots of people can't digest them and get
gas. Probably because we are not designed to eat them. Nuts
aren't much different. Maybe I don't chew them enough, but I
always see them in my excrement (yes I look).
I too see some contradictions in Monty's statements,
specifically re: whole grains and then eating corn and white
flour. I can see his points and eat a similar diet, but with
lots of meat and eggs. I disagree with his statements that
sugar is good/safe and same with corn, potatoes, bread, etc.
But overall, his comments about oxidation are quite
interesting.

Beans have a sugar called raffinose that isn't absorbed and is
then fed on bacteria in the intestines causing gas. The amount
of raffinose can be decreased by either hulling the beans,
discarding the soaking water, or fermenting the beans.

Or not eating them. There is nothing in beans that we can't
get as easily from other better choices of fresh produce. And
beans are carb dense, no matter how you look at it, they are
too carb dense.

I completely agree. I think that beans are like the only food
in nature that is pretty close to 1/2 carb and 1/2 protein.
Plus, aren't they toxic if eaten raw?

It's not clear who you're poking fun at. I eat several
types of beans, a little gas doesn't bother me. Beans (the
musical fruit) are full of protein and low in saturated fat
and high in fiber.

He's referring to Monty, myself, and the other poster. I don't
eat beans because I don't think humans are designed to digest
them. I also eat a high fat/low carb diet so what the F do I
know right? I prefer not to put my digestive system through
the torture of beans. I'll stick with meat and produce.

I eat meat, beans, vegetables, milk, whold grain bread and
pasta, and fruit. I take an omega 3 supplement and moderate
amounts of vitamins and minerals such as zinc, selenium,
calcium, vitamin C, B vitamins, vitamin E, Vitamin D, and
vitamin K. I try to keep my intake of trans-fats and saturated
fats down.
I get in a little over 5 hours of bicyling a week, but should
do more exercising.
I don't advocate any particular type of diet, being skeptical
of those that are highly touted.
I believe in following the scientific method, which for
nutrition needs to identify those things that are harmful and
those things that are beeficial.
So, am I missing out on knowing something I should know?

important dietary predictor of survival in older people of
different ethnicities. Darmadi-Blackberry I, Wahlqvist ML,
Kouris-Blazos A, Steen B, Lukito W, Horie Y, Horie K. Public
Health Division, National Ageing Research Institute,
Melbourne, Australia.
To identify protective dietary predictors amongst long-lived
elderly people (N= 785), the "Food Habits in Later Life
"(FHILL) study was undertaken among five cohorts in Japan,
Sweden, Greece and Australia. Between 1988 and 1991, baseline
data on food intakes were collected. There were 785
participants aged 70 and over that were followed up to seven
years. Based on an alternative Cox Proportional Hazard model
adjusted to age at enrollment (in 5-year intervals), gender
and smoking, the legume food group showed 7-8% reduction in
mortality hazard ratio for every 20g increase in daily intake
with or without controlling for ethnicity (RR 0.92; 95% CI
0.85-0.99 and RR .93; 95% CI 0.87-0.99, respectively). Other
food groups were not found to be consistently significant in

If by one of the healthiest you mean one of the most
allergenic that can kill, then I agree. Let's not also forget
their extremely high polyunsaturated omega 6 content and the
fact that they go rancid extremely quickly.

No, but you are a fool. Nuts consist of enzyme inhibitors and
anti-nutrients. Perhaps if they are soaked and roasted they
might digest a little better. But then again roasted would
oxidize the oils and quickly make them rancid. Chew all you
want, they go straight through you.
