I would say it depends on how long ago they expired. I wouldn't worry over a couple months myself. Now on the icky side, I (and only one time that God) once got a bad shake. Air must have somehow gotten into the can. And sadly I took a big gulp before I smelled it..and it did smell! Now I smell each can before I drink it!

Well, my 1st time on Atkins, I was able to use the shakes & bars. So this time around ordered a whole bunch of bars on e-bay - cheap because expired. Some of them were really gross tasting. But, either my body has changed; or expired bars change - because I'm pretty sure they are what caused me to stall for about 2 months. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

If there is a best before date, they are fine to consume, but may be kinda yucky. If it says "Expired" DON'T EAT IT. Expired means no good any more, there are ingredients in it that are no longer fit for consumption.

Most expiration dates are marketing hooey. Even real drugs--the kind the doctor writes--have one year expiration dates simply because nobody knows, and no-one wants to spend the money to test. The US Army DID test a lot of their drugs because of the cost of throwing them away, and most were good LONG past "official" expiration dates.
Meat, milk, stuff that really "goes bad?" Yes. Cans that are rusted, dented? Yes. Fake food that has nothing natural in it at all? What's to go bad?
Atkins bars stall, yes. I really don't think "expired" bars are any different at all.
How'd the pioneers get across the country if as much food "expired" as we now label it?

I unknowingly drank shakes that had gone past their date about 3 months! Of course I saw the date on the last one left, but I'm still kicking!

Funny this thread came up...........about a month ago I found a box of Apple Crisp Morning Start bars that I had forgotten about....they were 2 years old !!
They didn't taste any different, they were just HARD as a rock, but that was fine with me as I dunk my Morning Start bars in the soy milk I drink with 'em.

An expiration date mainly means that the company that sold it is no longer legally responsible if something goes wrong if you take it after that date.

Personally, I would not worry about bars that were up to a year outdated..unless they looked or tasted "off". It is getting increasingly hard to find low carb items, so enjoy your hoard while you have it.
