I am on day 13 and to be honest I don't think I am doing this right. I have not stuck to anything like I have this. I went to the store and bought anything and everythign I was allowed to have so I would have a variety. I have two friends at work helping me and telling me yes you can eat that and no, don't eat that. Well, now my husband's ex is telling me what I should do and brought me the ketone sticks( barely turned pink)...my husband is guiding me based on his experiences with her. Hmmmm!!!!?????
I was always tiny, I am now miserable with myself. I think I have narrowed my problem to the two cups of coffee, sweet n low (2 carbs), and sugar free creamer (1carb) in the mornings, the occassional rum with diet coke or vodka with crystal light lemon aide to take the edge of this wonderful homelife and stressfrul time of year for a teacher, as well as the walnuts that have added flavor to the salads. From what I am reading, I should eat nothing but meat, cheese and more meat and cheese. I should also put in a small salad with oil and vinegar dressing, and water. Will this send me into ketosys? What a bout eating pork rines and the atkins breakfast bars or snack bars during induction?

I apologize for so many questions...I would just like help from others that weren't married to my husband.

Ok, you should do what the book says, not what your husband's ex says. If you're on induction you should refrain from alcohol and nuts, if not....in my personal opinion, go ahead, just take it easy. Eat veggies, please......

Other than that, I think you're doing ok. The strips are just....lets say....for fun. If they're pink, though you are in ketosis and that's what counts. :)

I drink coffee. I eat pork rinds. I do not eat ready made low carb foods (atkins bars etc.) but that is my choice.

From your stats, you look like you're doing very well.

Okay, that's pretty much it. Good luck and many blessings!

If you mean to be doing Induction then you're correct - you aren't doing it right. If you drink coffee at all, it should be decaf; no alcohol or nuts, and the majority of your carbs should come from veggies. You really need to get the book if you want to separate fact from fiction from anecdotes.

Welcome to the forum, by the way. :)

Welcome to the forum sdtred7319.

You really put yourself at a disadvantage when you do Atkins without reading the book, "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution".

Good luck on your low carb journey.

(hug) you'll get help here!
Cut the nuts, don't eat the Atkins products.. eat your salad and you ARE doing the right thing. Coffee and sweetner is controversial.. I can't tell you what to do there since I've always had coffee and cream, no sweetner.

What they said.

Stick with us, read the book (I have three copies and keep one within arm's reach at all times), and stay the course.

One tiny suggestion: ditch the creamer. Even if it says only one carb, this stuff usually contains hydrogenated fats, which are truly evil. Use cream or half-n-half. Tastes better, and is totally low-carb friendly.

Take care of you.

Thank you for your replies. I will definitely get the book, I have been reading online and also reading The Atkin's Cookbook.

Does everyone agree to stay off the atkins bars?

The first 2 weeks definitely ditch the bars. Eat REAL!!

The rest of your life, ditch the ex!!!;) (Based on his experience with her....hmmmm...that's why she's the ex)

Read the book, work your chosen plan AS WRITTEN, follow the phases or levels and don't try and tweak the plan too early. You may be surprised and not need to if your following it correctly.

Take a breath, this is not a race.

Also take note that being in ketosis is like being pregnant...either you are or your not. Darker does not mean better.

Come to the forum daily for support and in the long run you will be successful.

I eat the Atkins bars as I have a really sweet tooth. I have still lost weight but I know that they make me go to the loo if I eat them everyday! Some say they stall you I think your body reacts diff to diff foods. I wouldn't eat them every day same as I wouldn't normal chocolate!!
Best of Luck

you have lost 8 Lbs with those cheats. Think about how quickly it will come off if you do induction the right way.

Well a lot of people on this forum have reported stalling from eating them. But I've been eating them since week two of my low carb journey and haven't had a problem with them. So I think if eaten in moderation they're okay, but if there's a portion control issue, they should be avoided. Some people don't eat them because they only eat whole foods. I guess the bottom line is you have to figure out what works best for you.

Much success to you!

Absolutely, this is not an all or nothing type of change.
Atkin's is not all "meat and cheese", it is eggs, veggies, fat, protein ... etc.
There are plenty of resources on the web if you can't get the book right away that will show you what is acceptable or not.
From personal experience, bars and shakes stall me ( and make me more regular  ) and I have coffee every morning, it appears to help my appetite. You will see YMWV a lot, translation your mileage may vary. Our bodies are so uniquely different and you have to find what works for you. :)

Come here and hang out for a bit. Read personal stories and gather knowledge from folks who have been there. An ex is an ex for a reason!

8 pounds in 13 days is awesome....Keep it up but do it right (no alcohol or nuts during induction). As far as the sticks go, light pink is what you want. Anything darker means you are dehydrated or starving yourself.
