Last week was my first week and I lost 1.8lbs after stalling on atkins for a year, I had 2 cheats. The book says the wt loss will be 0.5-2.0lbs/week. If you do calp you add in other things to lower your insulin more. I would say cad/calp are not fast weightloss plans but are a very pleasant way to lose weight comfortably.

ps I really liked ready vel and quikdeb's journal. Vel lost over 100lbs on cad. Jills journal is good too I think her screen name is momto4boys. I learned a lot about the plan from reading the journals.
welcome to our group!

I think most people lose faster on atkins. But for carb addicts (like me) you might keep cheating or not feel as great on it. Everyone is different. The carb addict test might help you decide. Or you could do atkins induction for 2 weeks and see how that goes.

I just bought the CAD book (1991) for 98 cents used.
I don't think this plan would work in my case? I may recommend it to a friend who is afraid of the Atkins diet.
I enjoyed reading it and the recipe section was useful for Atkins since you eat two induction type meals / day. Interesting theory, I read on the forum about 1/3 food group balance for the "reward meal" -- nothing in my book about that, maybe its too old? I noticed a 'fat phobia' in the book and nothing about making sure you get enough EFA (Essential Fatty Acids) use low-fat dary and take the skin of chicken etc. We all know now that's a recipe for disaster.
The CAD book was modified into many other editions- the balancing portions came in Carb Addicts Lifespan Program. Many vegetables and condiments were also taken off the safe list.
This diet is really designed to be person-specific. I personally eat tons of cheese and every drop of animal fat. It helps me not crave the carbs. Some people have reactions to dairy or too much fat and they will crave. This diet does take more time to find balance, but has easy staying power.
I never did Atkins- I couldn't live without my pasta and bread. Tell your friend to take the quiz at the beginning of the book to make sure they're carb addicted. If they're not, the plan won't work.
Good luck!
