I just started the fat fast.
I am on day 2.
I've lost a bit of weight but i 'm wondering if anyone can explain to me how this fast works? And wether i am loosing fat or muscle?
And also if any one can tell me wether i could supplement this diet during the day with a 100% protein drink = 25gms of 0carb soy protein in 1 litre of water to be sipped throughout the day. Would that mess up the way the fat fast works?
Alternatively i could add - 2 tablespoons of olive oil to it... which would taste pretty gross but at least the ratio would be close to correct... and i'd be getting the correct amount of protein per day.
I'm just really concerned about loosing muscle since i have SO VERY little of it to begin with.
If any one can explain how this fat fast works i'd really really apreaciate the information. Thanks!

I tried the fat fast and had tons of questions too. I think losing water weight first is normal for most diets. I ate 1000 calories and 50-70 grams of fat and up to 20 carbs. I drink lots of protein shakes. I'm up to 1500 calories now and losing weight slowly. I really think Atkins exaggerated about how fast people lose weight on the fat fast. I was on it two months and lost about 15lbs. I read that when you lose weight you lose both fat and muscle, but protein helps keep the muscle, or so I've read, so I make sure to drink protein shakes alot, my body type tends to hold on to muscle though, I'm a cone. Beef has lots of protein. I ate lots of cheeseburgers on the fatfast, that means 2 quarter pounders with cheese per day only, they have calories. I drink designer whey protein shakes which has 90 calories and 2 carbs. I buy the jar. It has 18grams of protein and lots of B vitamins. Also I read that for women over 25 years old need at least 50 grams of protein. Personally, I think calories are calories whether you eat them or drink them, but if you don't get enough fiber, you will get constipated. I try to eat a cup of cabbage or brocolli, that helps, it's 30-60 calories and 4carbs per cup. Put butter on the brocolli and cabbage for fat. If you are drinking that protein drink throughout the day you still need to eat enough fat. I heard that trying to do the low fat version of Atkins or Fat Fast won't work. Maybe you can put heavy cream in your shake for the fat, at least 50 grams of fat altogether I think should be enough:)

I just learned something new. I read that too much protein turns to sugar in your body, so don't do excess. Here is the link. I also have an extra link. http://www.karlloren.com/diet/p117.htm
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/bbinfo.php?page=Protein
There is lots of info on both sites.

I don't know if women's bodies are different than men's in how they handle protein and such --
but all I eat is eggs (for amino acids) and protein and am building a lot of muscle while losing a lot of fat. So I would not worry about eating too much protein.
This is why for a lot of people - their weight does not change but measurements show they are getting smaller. Which I have been doing for 3 years now.
If you want to build muscle then do strength training, eat protein and amino acids
On any diet -- there is no telling what happens in the first two weeks. After that you should build muscle / lean and lose fat.

Zazi,
I'm a bit confused as to why someone who is already within a healthy weight range for their height is using the fat fast.
Dr. Atkins defined metabolic resistance as no loss of pounds or inches during the 2 week induction period while following it to the letter.
Some have used it as a stall breaker, but a stall is defined as no loss of pounds or inches for a period of 4-6 weeks.
The fat fast is very protein deficient which is why Dr. Atkins didn't have his patients stay on it for more than 5 days before moving back towards induction level again. If you already have less muscle than what you'd like, this is not a good choice for your body.
Being as close to goal as you are, it would probably benefit you a lot more to increase your carbs and choices, not severely restrict them; the last few pounds should come off over a period of weeks or months while you are learning what your body can and can't handle and are working towards maintainence. :)

well i can't say that i am actually ON the full fast (take a look at my journal for the details)... And i've been close to my goal weight for months - but i just can't seem to move the scales at all on a normal atkins diet.
that's why i am trying the fat fast - but like i said i'm not really on the full version. I do the fat fast during the day, till dinner and then at dinner i have a large portion of tuna and egg white or some other sort of fish.
that's mainly so i don't loose too much muscle and also so i don't come out of ketosis.
as for the height/weight issue, it's true that i am within that range, but i have a very small frame due to my asian heritage. my hips for example used to be 32... i gained a lot of weight over the last 12 months due to really poor eating habits - anyway, i think we all have our own idea of at what weight we look our best. :agree:

Perhaps your weight is not changing because you are adding lean, including muscle?
