Hey, all, thought this might be a new place for us to share little-known tips. The reality is that some of the threads are so long, I find it challenging to find information in them, or to know who exactly will see what I'm posting. Here are a few things I've learned over the years (just 2) of eating low carb...
1. salt has sugar in it. Yes, that's what I said. If you check the Windsor salt box, you will see that salt contains sugar. This means that if you eat prepared foods with salt, or if you eat in restaurants with salt shakers, or even if you eat in regular restaurants, or just about anywhere, if they or you salt the food, they and you are adding sugar. At home you can buy sea salt, which doesn't have anything added to it. Don't buy the Windsor salt box. I think they put it in there in order to increase our cravings for more salt, that is to make the salt taste less salty, and slightly sweet. We haven't bought this kind of salt in many years. Another alternative is to go to the health food store and buy one of the organic herbal seasoning mixes, like "Herbamer" which is a seasoning mixture that is very tasty and can replace salt. But when eating out, it's just something to be aware of.
2. I'm reading where buying all the new SBD and other books can get expensive. If you go on Amazon.com, you can get most books you want very cheaply by buying them used. But what I did was to go to the library, took out the books, and read them. I jotted down the recipes I liked, you can also photocopy them. Saves a bundle! Truth is, just had a garage sale, and you should have seen all the diet books...Susan's, Oprah's, Protein Power, The Zone, omig-d! Its enough already....
Look forward to hearing your "tips" too.
