It is something that we have been actually eating for quite some time now over the last three years - my husband and I put it together. I looked up my counts and all before we ate it last night and it is a keeper. Matter of fact, it is sooooo tasty. But, something that I forgot to put in was that I do add a little bit of chili powder to it to give it a little kick. So, I will edit my other so that it will include that.

I tried this today and it was great! I added some 57 sauce to it for a bit of kick.

And, you can make a double batch of it and be able to have some the next day for lunch. The thing that I thought was so great about it is that the calories are there. Gotta keep them up!

I make something very simaler only use Ragu double cheddar sauce instead of the shredded cheese.

My books show most cheeses to have about 1carb per ounce; eggs vary from around .6 to .85 depending on size I think. How did eight ounces cheese and an egg end up at 5 carbs? Or were you saying divide it in half and that's per-serving? Please forgive -- I'm new to this eating plan and still a little confused about some of the stats on foods!

We tried this recipe a few nights ago and loved it! I recommended it to my sister and she and her husband loved it too. I think it would be great as a lunchtime leftover.

We do the almost the same thing, but we do it in a frying pan and omit the egg. I like the casserole idea though.

A thousand thank-you's!! This was fantastic. I added some cumin along with the chili powder and an onion and had it with some sour cream. A taco without the shell!

Loved it!

This looks great. I've been looking for a kid friendly LC recipe. I'm trying this tonight. Going to double the recipe and heat it up tomorrow with some cumin and put it with some shredded lettuce and salsa and have a taco salad. Can't wait. Thanks.

Made this last night, and made a BIG casserole!!! It was great, and I have lots leftover. Didn't have nay mozzarella, so I used some provolone instead. Worked good, and great taste!!
Thanks.

I am planning on making this tonight and wondered if the cal/carb count was for the whole dish or per serving. Just thinking about this makes my mouth water. I'll let you know how my family likes it. :daizy:

As I stated in an earlier post, we love this recipe in our house! I'm definately going to try the "taco" approach as I'm sure it will rock too.

BTW, it is great reheated as leftovers, too. :p

Ok, I know I've posted three times about this recipe...

But I made it again last night and it was the best one ever! I added a small amount of chopped green pepper and a bit of chopped onion. It was dee-lish!

Interestingly, when I started this WOE 2 months ago, I could eat full half or more of this dish. Even though I love the taste of it, I can no only eat a quarter of it in one sitting. So I have leftiovers for lunches and such.

I'm down 34lbs in 8 weeks!

Happy Cooking all...

I ran the original through http://www.fitday.com/ for the nutritional stats since so many were asking. This is a great (free) site to do that at. Also remember that different brands have different carb counts so check those labels!

This is for the entire recipe!
With 3 slices of bacon:
Calories: 2270.6
Fat: 165.75 g (for those of us trying to up our fat intake!)
Carbs: 5.762 g

With 5 slices of bacon:
Calories: 2362.76
Fat: 173.62 g
Carbs: 5.856 g

Also someone was asking about cheese and again check those labels, but fitday had 4 oz of cheddar at 1.45g of carbs and mozzarella (4 oz) was 3.56 g. I think you can buy mozzarella with lower carbs.

Thanks, Tonmur, and everyone else for contributing to this recipe. It's a winner. The kids gobbled it down. I made the "pizza" version, with pepperoni instead of bacon. Next time, I'll sautee some mushrooms with garlic, and add that along with some black olives and chopped green peppers and onions as "pizza toppings".

This recipe is so flexible that I know it's going to be a staple on our weekly menus. I can't wait to try a Mexican version and top it with picante, chopped tomato, shredded lettuce and sour cream (and maybe a few jalapenos!). I think when I make the original "bacon cheeseburger" version that I'll also add sliced tomato and lettuce.

I was just thinking about another twist on this recipe. I have some Italian sausage in the fridge and I think I'm going to try a lasagna version substituting the Italian sausage for the bacon and adding some Italian seasoning to the meat mixture, substituting dollops of ricotta/mozerella/egg for the cheddar, and topping with parmesan cheese.

This is my first post, so I'll start by saying hello all.

I've made this twice now and it really is pretty good. The second time, I switched pepperjack cheese for the mozzerella and it was a nice alternative.

It doesn't get much easier than this to make, either ;)

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I made this today. I added a little extra chili powder, some cumin, garlic powder, a little Italian seasoning, a little onion flake and chopped green peppers to really give it a mexican taste. Instead of mozzerella I used all sharp cheddar cheese. When it came out, we topped it with shredded lettuce, sour cream, fresh salsa, black olives and green onions. OH IT WAS SOOOOOOO GOOD! My son even loved it! Will definately make again, next time I am going to do it closer to the original recipe but i am going to add mushrooms! Yum! :yum:

Thanks again for a great recipe!

I made this for dinner tonight!
IT WAS GREAT... just one thing....

I forgot the egg so it was really just a bunch of crumbled hamburger and bacon with cheese....

I didn't realize I did something wrong until I found the egg still sitting on the counter when I finished cooking (And no way would I tell anyone in my family I screwed up! They all liked it anyway). So I guess the baking part was almost pointless unless you count melting the cheese....

So next time I will have to add the egg.

It was great anyway... took care of my hamburger helper craving for some reason!

Thanks

Hi Everybody! I see my question is the same as everybody elses and it still wasn't answered that I can see. What is the carb count for an individual serving??? Is the 5 for the whole thing or is that a serving?? It sounds so great that I am making it tonight for the whole family!!

Have a great LCing day!

It would be 5 or 6 for the whole thing. It could be higher, depending on how much cheese you add to it. I tend to use 4 thick slices of mozzerella on mine, so mine may be slightly higher.

You'll find nutritional information about this on page 2 of this thread.

This looks good and easy, I went through and tried to gather most of the variations so I could print it out, thought I would post it for the rest of you:

1 pound ground beef
1 egg
4 ounces shredded cheddar cheese
4 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
3 to 5 slices of bacon (cooked and crumbled)
garlic powder to taste
black pepper to taste
chili powder to taste

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Lightly brown beef and drain well.
Mix all ingredients together except Mozzarella.
Press mixture into small casserole dish and top with Mozzarella.
Bake in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes.
Cheese should be melted and lightly browned.

2400 Calories; 5g Carbohydrate

Variations:

Pizza style - pepperroni instead of bacon,
sautee some mushrooms with garlic,
and some black olives
and chopped green peppers
and onions as "pizza toppings".
Provolone used instead of Mozzarella,
but Provolone has a higher carb count
Canadian Bacon

Taco style - add cumin and an onion
have it with some sour cream
chopped tomato, shredded lettuce, and salsa

Spicy - Pepperjack cheese

Just in case you missed the low carb count is helped out by the cheddar cheese which according to another web site is only .36 carb per ounce. However I guess we should share it with a friend so we don't go over our daily cheese allowance.

No prob, but I didn't do anything really, just grab the separate sentences. Thought it would be handy at the grocery store. Just for the record I tried this last night with:

black olives
mushrooms
a little banana pepper
pepperoni
a little ham
onion

It was great, its got such a tasty base to begin with (I love hamburger and the cheeses) that you can add just about anything. Browned up real nice on the top. Even my wife who isn't low carbing thought it looked good and served some to the kiddos.

I made this last night, but added a splash of heavy cream to the egg/cheese mixture. Also added 1 small sauteed onion and 1/3 cup mushrooms. I did not use 2 types of cheese, just a 8oz bag of shredded colby jack.

This is good and I just finished the leftovers for lunch.
