:D Awesome results. In the first two weeks on Atkins, I have lost 21 pounds ! My size 46 pants and 54 jackets were feeling very tight. They fit a lot better now. :D By the way, Diet Rite Cola now uses Sucralose.

I do feel better. I have had good results on this diet before. However, I suspect that , at age 55, this is the last time I can afford to go on another hundred pound yo-yo. The thing is that I am just not hungry anymore. I'll forget the last time I ate. Forget to eat lunch. Have a snack for dinner.
I am reflecting a bit on the causes of my past recidivism. When my eating changes into an Atkins WOL, I sort of feel like I am leaving a kind of old family church, the church of gluttony. I don't how commercials work in Sydney, but here they have all these attractive people cooing over carbohydrate rich foods. I don't get to participate in the communal ooohs and ahhs over bagels and do-nuts at work on Fridays. In fact, I inwardly cringe when I see a fat person digging in. When my body is in ketosis. these foods might as well be made of card board.
One important thing that was lacking before when I was on Atkins was a community. This low-carb forum is really a boon.

Oh the commercials are the same here in Sydney, don't worry about that.
I agree that the forum helps so much. I have thrown myself into it. I'm losing much slower than you, but I get so happy reading about other people's successes.
It really helps
Take care

Hi Hoti,
I'm a newbie still here at this site, but I'm enjoying myself very much. I just wanted to congratulate you on your 20# victory. Wow! :D THAT's got to be a great boost to your self-esteem and encourage you to go on. I am on the CAD myself, since going completely sweetless boggles my mind and sends me running for the hills :o . I WISH I had your courage and could actually stay on the Adkin's woe for a whole two weeks. I can't imagine. With the CAD I feel like I can make it through 'til supper, then I can have something sweet, like dangling a carrot...:) Anyway, awesome job. I'm proud of ya.

That's the thing about Atkins, the appetite for sweets really goes away. No will power required.

Hoti,
Congratulations! Those results are AMAZING! I find myself torn between being incredibly happy for you and having to repent of my envy :) But I am truly happy for you, that this is working.
Angelwings,
That's why I couldn't do CAD/CALP. That dangling carrot just set me up for a binge. I'm doing much better, though, with a modified LC plan that cuts back somewhat on cheese, gets rid of artificial sweeteners totally, but I can have some fruit - that assauges my sweet tooth - especially raspberries and strawberries in cream - wonderful! :daze:

According to Atkins, a sweet tooth is a desire that's more a matter of one's biochemistry and psychology. I haven't felt like I have been working over the last couple weeks. I have just cut my carbs down to less than 10 grams most day. When I have taken on 30 grams just to see what would happen, I gained five pounds and felt hungry. The deal is that in ketosis (for me only in dark ketosis), the cravings just aren't there. I'm sure that the fat cells that I am shrinking will only stay quiet as long as I keep my carbs very low. If I fire them up, they will come at me with a vengeance. I guess I do sort of have to treat these carbs like an alchoholic treats booze.

Hi Hoti,
You have just finsihed Induction in the past couple of days, right?
You should keep your carbs between 15 to 20 grams on induction (for first 2 weeks). Then, increase by 5g intervals each week after that until you go out of ketosis, or stop losing. 10g carbs per day is probably not healthy on a long term basis. Maybe you have taken carbs up to 30 too quickly? Its also about how those carbs are made up.
You are losing very well, but you want to make this a true way of life. Don't limit yourself if you don't need to.
Cheers
Kim

A Dark Purple ketosis stick means that you are not drinking enough water -- you are dehydrated. A main aspect of the WOE/WOL is to drink water and then more water. Do not shortchange yourself on water.
There is a formula regarding how much water you should be drinking, but I cannot think of it. Most people drink about 3 liters or 4.
I agree, this is LOW CARB WOL -- NOT A NO CARB. It is important that you follow induction carefully - otherwise there may be problems down the road.
Look at some of the orange tabs or go to the Newbies Section for more information.

I do drink a lot of water. And, I do think I am one of those folks who has to really watch my increments. I think maybe that I got carried away with my favorite snack of pecans with butter sweetened with Sucralose.

Hoti, that is just so excellent that you have lost 21# during Induction! I told myself that I will not step on a scale until the Induction is over with (besides, that's the day I go to see the doctor anyway! :D )
Although I've only been on Induction for 6 days, I definitely feel like I've lost, and, like you I don't feel hungry at all.
The very cool thing is that my hubby is now reading the Atkins book when I go to bed at night. He doesn't need to diet at all (doesn't it always happen that way!), but he wants to know all about it - since he does 90% of the cooking anyway. Today, he took me out to lunch at our favorite "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant and he was converting others that we know to start the low carb way of life! I didn't know that he had been seriously reading the books!

There are a lot of folks out there who are going to tell you that you are killing yourself on this diet. It's good that you have a close ally who is actually studying Atkin's material. Sounds like your husbund is intelligent enough to recognize a carb. Good for you! Depend on Dr. Atkins. Also depend on your own physical results.
Some of the fear and resistence to this diet is subtle. Dr. Atkins actually says that staying in induction level is fine for people like us who have a lot of pounds to lose. At 310, I figure that I have 75 pounds to go before I move very far out of induction. I like being in enough ketosis that I'm not hungry. For me, dropping off this initial weight and bulk faster is more satisfying than some blueberries in my whipped cream. Later of course, I intend to add more greens and other veggies for their long-term benefits. For folks like us, this is not merely a weight-loss plan. It's a life-long regimine.
By the way, one thing I am doing is taking digital photos of myself as my weight drops. The "before" pictures are hard for me to look at, but the benefit is that I'll have more evidence of progress.
It will take a while for us to see our bodies as thin even after we get thin.
p.s. Hoti and Cary are the same guy, different e-mail addresses.
