Well, I decided to start today since my size 16's were tight on me today!
I had 3 eggs with 1 T cream and some shredded cheese for breakfast and a big salad with grilled chicken and blue cheese dressing for lunch. Now on to my question about the reward meal.

I am pretty good at balancing my meals since that's what the Schwarzbein Priniciple is all about (protein, complex carb, healthy fat and veggies at every meal) but I am not sure about how to add the dessert. I read the CALP book today and it says that 1/3 of your plate should be carbs AND your dessert. That doesn't seem to leave too much room for either on your plate! I am not a huge sweet fan (I haven't had sugar since I started Schwarzbein 2 weeks ago) but I do like to endulge every once in awhile (I also LOVE cereal!). Does anyone have any specific guidelines that they use for the carb/dessert portion of their plate?

hi Nicole-
I think that is the point: when you balance the protein/carbs/vegies there is not too much room for the carbs! You don't have to have sugar- it is just another choice. If you like the way you feel on Schwartzbein, you can continue. As you have seen in CALP, your carb can be a carby vegie, beans, grains, pasta, bread or any kind of dairy or sugar. I love cereal too- it is a frequent carb in my RM. It isn't a bowl- just a small serving with some dried fruit and nuts. You will work this out. Planning and having lots of vegies and protein around is key. The more you do it the easier it is. I also reread the book lots in the beginning. You are doing fine!!!- your 2 CMs sound great!

Thanks Enomarb! I guess you just don't do dessert every meal :) Maybe I'll just do 1/2 the potato and 3 or 4 bites of the dessert. I'm really curious to see if this works for me. My weight has been at such a standstill (and even gaining) and NOTHING has seemed to work! I even tried cutting out gluten to see if that worked. Nada. I also started walking last week in the mornings (about 45 min at a moderate pace). Unfortunately, my hubby went away for business this week so I haven't been able to do it since I was doing it while the kids and hubby were still sleeping.

I am really hoping the bloat goes away and I start to just feel good again. I'm not trying to be a size 8 or even a 10. I consider my ideal weight to be 165 (that puts me in a size 12). At this point, I would be ecstatic with 170!

Thanks for all your help!

I usually have either or...the carb or the dessert... So for example, protein, veggies, and dessert....or protein, veggies, and potatoe...NOT BOTH...or should I say occasionally lol...

I agree with skee- if you want a whole piece of cake, have that as your ONLY carb- I tend to break up my carbs into "bites"- two bites of potato and three bites of cake- or, one glass of wine and two bites of rice. This helps me eat a variety of carbs and stay in portion. After three bites of dessert, I now feel I've tasted it, and I'm done with it! I know I can always have three more bites tomorrow!
Good luck! I know this takes some time!

That's basically what I did last night...I have 1/2 a roll and then about 4 bites of the sundae. But I did come home and read the sample meal plans in CALP and she did have BOTH a carb and a dessert listed at each RM. And no mention of only a few bites of each. Is this something you guys do because you notice much faster weight loss this way?

And on a sad note--I ordered a larger filet mignon last night knowing I was going to only eat 1/2 and then bring the rest home for my lunch salad and then I left it there!!! :( So sad!

No reason other than trying to balance out carbs...but I am delighted to know that I'm still on plan when I do eat both!!!

This confuses me too. ;)
