I have a question. My internets thinks I should be on Benicare
because I am Diabetic. A1C 5.1. The problem is my Blood
pressure the last few years on no med runs 110/65. I started
on 20mg and in two weeks I was getting dizzy. I now take 5mg
and again my BP runs 90/48. If your Blood pressure is not high
why take medicine? I understand that Blood pressure can be a
problem with type1 but my colestral and blood pressure is
great on no meds. I am on 500 mg Metformin twice a day and 4mg
Avandia plus 10 units of Lantis. I think one of these drugs
most also keep my Blood pressure in check.

It's NOT "Benicare"; it's Benicar. It's a blood pressure med.
Why take it if you don't have high blood pressure? Talk to
your INTERNIST about this. You have practically answered your
own question, Bob! :)

What does your doctor has to say about this situation. I am
missing some information here. How long have you been a
diabetic? In Canada, if your A1C is above 8.0 your situation
begins to be critical. In your case the A1C is 5.1. Have you
see a writing report to that effect. 500 mg Metformin twice a
day and 4mg Avandia plus 10 units of Lantis is a full job to
manage. Do you check you BP yourself and compile the data. As
for your dizziness, all medications have side effects. You
should discuss this whole thing with your Doctor.

Why are you on BP meds anyway? 110/65 is normal. If you are
bottoming out your pressures because of the med's, that why
you are getting dizzy.

It's not so much taken for it's BP reduction qualities, but
rather as a kidney protector for diabetics - type 1 and 2.
Type 2 is associated with the metabolic syndrome - high blood
pressure, high cholesterol/triglycerides and high blood sugar,
insulin resistance. You sound like you are in good control.
Sometimes I take my BP med (lowest dose) every second day. If
that is still causing a BP problem then you most likely can do
without it if all other kidney risks are low. None of your
meds cause a lowering of BP by the way, apart from the Benicar
and perhaps Metformin if you are still obese.

Because the kidney benefit from ACE (prils) or ARB (sartans)
BP meds is separate from BP. If there is any microalbuminuria
present then the med will still be prescribed regardless of
the BP readings. Sounds like our friend here may have things
well in control and his doctor may consider dropping it. I
know that I would personally not want to be walking around
dizzy all day when I know I have no microalbuminuria and that
my diabetes is well controlled.

Bob to me 90/48 is too low, 110/65 is perfect. I would call
your doctor and ask why you are getting these low numbers
since you went on the med. Why is it with the 110/65 he wasnt
happy. doesnt make sense to me.
