I am back to 180 pounds again! Had gained about 5 pounds back in the last 15 days. Ahhhh!

Note to everyone (including me): Don't ever, ever get off the wagon. It's not worth it! The getting on is way harder the 2nd time around!

Munia, you are so right. it is sooooooo hard to get back on once you fall off. One thing that has really helped me the last few days...I tell myself "If you eat that you will be knocking yourself out of ketosis (or prevent myself from getting into ketosis) and I will stay that much further away from my goal. The last two days I have really wanted to cheat. I have had cravings and have been stalled...but I am keeping with it because I know it will work.

I feel really good about not giving in. I know that telling myself has REALLY made a difference! :cheer:

I am actually looking forward to weighing next week. I am nervous of course too.

Hang in there! This WOE will get you where you need to be weight wise and health wise!

Hey Munia...congratulations! You are doing great! I'm so proud of you for getting back on the program. Just don't go boucing back and forth, ok? It will mess up your metabolism and you'll find it harder to lose the weight the next time you fall off the wagon.

Keep up the great work. You can do it!

Hi, I was just wondering if I can join in with you ladies? I am re-starting induction because I cheated for over a week and gained all my weight back (even more  ) Are you doing a challenge and what days are you weighing in? I would love to join, I need some support!
Thanks!

Isa, thanks. I am trying very hard to stay ON the wagon. LOL

Lucille, don't be sad. You had only started, before slipping -- you can start again. Only be extremely strong willed, no cheating.... the first days will be a bit hard, and then it is very easy. We are all here to cheer you along your weight loss journey.

Hey everyone, I am visiting the States in about 10 days. In 4 days I leave for the UK, stay there for a few days and then to Chicago and Phoenix. I'll be back home in about 20 days from now. It will be a long journey -- takes two days to fly to the US only. I am getting tired even thinking of the long, long journey.

And I am mortally afraid of the food they are going to provide in the plane. I shall take some LC food with me which will last the first lap of the journey. After that I am on my own. Now what shall I do? Starve or eat high carb food?

Hi Munia, traveling while low carbing is difficult, it's true! Are you staying with friends who can cook for you, or eating in restaurants? For me the hardest meal away from home is breakfast. I don't like eggs, so it's nearly impossible for me to find a breakfast I can eat in a restaurant. Sometimes I can get a bowl of cottage cheese or plain yogurt. Otherwise I take little bags of nuts and eat that for breakfast.

Low carb lunch and dinner in restaurants isn't too bad. There's an article on the Atkins website about how to eat out low-carb: http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/14-422873.html My fall-back is the grilled chicken salad with blue cheese dressing. Most restaurants have it and it's almost always safe, as long as I remember to ask for no croutons.

I don't know about the UK, but once you get to the US you could look for a supermarket or store that carries low carb food products. You could stock up on Atkins Advantage bars (or a similar brand), and have one of them whenever you're stuck someplace with no low carb eating options. I wouldn't eat Advantage bars every day normally, but it's better than having to go completely off the plan. There's a nutrition store in most shopping malls called GNC that sells low carb supplies. Also Wal-mart, and a lot of large supermarkets as well.

Sarah thanks! In UK I am going to stay at my brother's place and in USA, at my sister's. So once I get there I will have no problem to carry on LCing. I wouldn't need to go to restaurants even. My big problem is the plane journey. It takes a minimum TWO long days to reach the States, stopping for a an hour or so at different airports. And those hours will be "used up" rushing from one gate to another to catch the connecting flights. It's very difficult but somehow I have to, will survive. -- Anyways, when I reach the US, I am definitely going to buy some of those Advantage bars that all of you so rave about. LOL They can be got at Walmarts, you say? Because that is the only store I've been into several times (whenever I visit your country) and is familiar. Anything else that I shouldn't miss buying while I'm there? Any other treats? LOL All suggestions welcome..

The Atvantage bars that I like the most are the cokkies and cream. I put them in the freezer then we I have to have one I microwave it for 20 sec. and yum. :yum: (Don't forget to take off the paper before microwaving)

I can't really think of any other treats. Pork rinds are too hard to pack. Too bulky.

Have a great trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would be scared to fly over the ocean! I would love to go to Australia but can't imagine the trip!

Hi Munia, two days on planes? Yikes, that is going to be tough. Airplane food is usually pretty bad for low carbing, but hopefully you'll be able to eat at least some of it (for instance if they give you a sandwich you can eat the inside and leave the bread, or if it's fried chicken, you could scrape off the breading). You could take macadamia nuts and dried beef jerky or dried fish. If you have a small insulated cooler (about the size of a purse, intended to carry soda cans) maybe you could take some cheese and hard boiled eggs. I think they would stay cool enough to eat for the first day. Vegetable sticks too. Hope that helps!

Isa
Thu, Jul-31-03, 12:40
Hi Munia...congratulations on your progress. We knew you could do it if you stuck to it. Sarah has some great, sensible ideas for your airplane travel. Don't starve yourself...just make sure you take care of your own food choices so that you won't be forced to eat something that you'll regret. It's a good thing airline food is none too tempting in the first place. And just think how pleased you'll feel with yourself if you eat a nice salad and some protein on the plane instead of all the carbs. Why don't you check with the airline ahead of time and see what's on their special menus? They all have them. You know what food is allowed on this WOE...so make your choice accordingly. No one can FORCE you to eat something that will set you back. You are strong and in charge of what goes into your mouth.

You can make the right choices. You can take good care of yourself. We know you can do it!

Best regards and happy travels,

Isa

Hi all you fellow Petite People :) I am 5'2" and is it me or is it harder and slower to loose when you're short????

I go week to week gaining and losing the same 3 pounds!

Then I cut out nuts one week, don't buy whip cream....easy on the salt..etc. etc.

Also, I read through some of the other post ....being shorter do we still drink as much water as our tall LC'ers.....???

Isa
Thu, Oct-23-03, 12:51
Hi carol...I don't know if being short has anything to do with weight loss, but having less to lose does. You tend to lose slower if you have fewer pounds to shed.

As for water, you certainly shouldn't drink less just because you're short.

God is doing Atkins?

Hi Isa ,

To answer your question "Is God doing Atkins?"

I try not to do anything without Him......... :)

Actually This WOE is the only thing that has worked for this long for me....My goal is to walk on Clearwater Beach without a cover-up to cover -me - up :)

Isa

Stick with it toni. You can achieve your goal. I have a friend who had about 100 lbs to lose when she started. That was back in January and 50 lbs ago. She's halfway there, she looks great, and she says she's never felt better.

Consistency and self-control. You can do it.

Hi all!
4'9.5" here - I think I qualify for the 'petite ladies' post :) !
I find that I have a hard time dropping the weight as well. I started low-carbing 6 weeks ago at 137 and am currently down to 126ish. The problem that I run into with losing weight is that I tend to hit plateaus really easily and I get stuck at certain weights for long periods of time.
My final goal is 107 or below. My less vertically-challenged friends are shocked at this number, but I have to remind them that being the height that I am, this is a perfectly reasonable goal.

:) Linda

Hi linilinda...your progress is terrific! Don't get discouraged if it's not all coming off swiftly. If you've done your reading you know this isn't an instant weight loss program. Besides, those results never stick. You're doing just great.

It's pretty common to get "stuck" at a plateau. Are you measuring yourself? Often the measurements change while the scale stays the same. I can say it certainly happens for me that way. Are you exercising and drinking water? Those two components are essential.

107 or below sounds reasonable to my ears. Don't worry about what those "giants" around you think. Besides, it's between you, your mirror, your closet, and your healthy attitude. You might even find that your goal number is just a number, and that your clothes will give you the best indication. That's especially true if you're dropping fat and building lean muscle.

Good luck. You're doing great!

Isa, that was a wonderful post! Wise and "down to earth" words.. :)

Anyway, please tell me, people tell me that if you do resistance training or weight training or whatever that people do to build muscle.. and then if they quit doing that after sometime, you gain all the weight back?... is that true?? cause I was planning to start resistance training but this information deterred me... I want to build some muscles right now but I definitely do not have the mental stamina to carry on doing exercise for life.... but I do can carry on dieting forever. :) ---- So do I stick to dieting only (meaning Atkins of course) or do I do pilate or something else too alongside? Or is pilate also equally mischevious, that is, if you quit, then you gain back everything? Am I unnecessarily afraid of weight training??

I am asking you all this because I know you have toned down your body beautifully and maintaining it too. You should be an expert on this. :)

Isa
Mon, Oct-27-03, 11:11
Hi Munia...I'm no expert. I can only talk about what works for me, but if it helps you find what works for you that's a good thing.

I know exactly what you mean when you say you don't have the mental stamina to exercise for the rest of your life. But that's just words in your head. You've already accomplished so much, and you didn't believe at first that you could do it. But you did it. That's the way with exercise. You just do it. Don't think about it. Just do it. Don't think about the exercise you'll do in the future. Just think about the exercise you'll do today. And do it.

Start your resistance program and stick with it. Don't worry about how you're going to feel about doing it six weeks or six months from now. You're going to be in different shape by then and your thinking will have changed. Your motivation will change.

Trust the process. You absolutely cannot predict how you're going to feel about exercise weeks, months, years from now. If you stick to it one day at a time the future will take care of itself naturally.

You gain everything back only if you go back to your old way of eating and your old way of not exercising.

That's the truth as I see it. Maybe someone else has something to share regarding this?

Stick to your good eating and exercising habits and leave your fear behind you. What have you got to lose except that which needs losing in the first place? Fear and fat.

I'm with you,

Isa

Thanks Isa for the prompt reply. So will it be resistance training or pilate?? Mind, I don't want to be one of those people who have loads of muscles that show in waves all over their bodies...

Thanks,

Isa
Mon, Oct-27-03, 11:38
I do a pilates program that comes with a video tape and three levels of resistance bands. So what I do is resistance training. With pilates it's sort of like yoga with resistance bands. Pilates makes long, strong muscles. Resistance bands makes them stronger and leaner. Like you, I'm not in the least bit interested in having a body-builder physique. But I love the feeling of those long, lean muscles and my flat, strong stomach.

The tape I use can be found at Gaiam.com. Look for the pilates with resistance bands taught by Ana Caban. It works for me. Maybe you'll like it.

It's also important to remember that the number on the scale isn't what defines a healthy weight. I'm 5'4" and a healthy weight for me (on my large frame) is around 145, below that and people start commenting that I look TOO thin (that's never been a problem with me)! It was also hard for me growing up, because my mother is about my height, but very fine boned and she weighed about 112. Hang in there and find a weight that's easy to maintain!

-animaldoc

Yay! I was so happy to find another petite woman who doesn't want to get to 120! I too could never go below 145-ish. I've always been super athletic and any lower makes me look (and feel) sick. Perhaps muscle mass has something to do with it, but 120 seems just so low to me. Especially for folks who are coming down from like 210: isn't 120 really intensely low?

Wow, fatlady, sounds like you need to work on your self-esteem, sweetie.

You've lost 40% of your weight. That's nothing to be ashamed or disgusted about.

There are a lot of people here who would :rheart: to be in your shoes.

Just keep up the good work, and I hope you'll feel better about yourself.

I think everyone here has self-esteem issues. Well, maybe not everyone. I personally don't know anyone who is overweight who is fine with themselves. I know for a fact that my sis-in-law isn't, and neither is my morbidly obese cousin.

I'm 122 pounds and I size 4 and I still have low self-esteem because I see myself as fat and ugly.
But I'll overcome that and so will you.

Hey guys...let's keep this in persepctive! You have some weight to lose (as do I). You are not an awful person and it does not make you disgusting! You just have some weight to lose! Period. End of story.

Besides, I don't think that it is just larger people who have self esteem issues; i really think everyone has them. Larger people just have one thing that they feel that can focus (sometimes obsessively) on. Don't beat yourself up. And don't swallow society's crap about fat people (especially fat women). You are beautiful. It's nice you are doing something healthy for your body and losing weight, but you are beautiful nonetheless.....

THANKS MUNIA68 :)

I measured myself yesterday (height) and to my surprise I am only 61 1/2 inches tall ....In high school (Graduated in 76') I was measured as 5'2 & 3/4....

Did I shrink in the wrong way :(

Now I'm thinking I should put my goal as 118 or lower!!!

SarahO
Wed, Oct-29-03, 11:31
Hi Carol, I think you should set your goal according to how you look and feel, not by height-weight charts. Because a fit, muscular person can look trim and still weigh more than a non-muscular person who, while weighing less, might still look flabby.

For me, the last time I wore this dress size I weighed ten pounds less than I do now. In fact I don't want my family to know how much I weigh because they're all short too, and I know they would think 115 is too heavy for me. In their eyes I would become fat if they knew my weight, regardless of how I actually look. Kind of sad that people get so hung up on that stupid number.

carol.pino
Wed, Oct-29-03, 12:59
It's funny how the mind works...I think it has to do with all those charts for what is the "right" number...Like you said Sarah, I'ts how you look and feel now...

I do feel like I need to loose another 13 pounds to be where I would feel comfortable to maintain.

Lunch was an hour later than I usually eat and all I had for breakfast was 1 hard boiled egg...I was famished! I went home and made a chef salad w/1T.mayo for dressing then picked on some left over steak....I hate when I let myself get so hungry that I eat more than I would have..tonight I had planned hot wings and another salad, I think that is still ok, gotta check fitday. :)

I think the charts are nuts I am 5 ft tall and the chart says i should be between 98 and 110 and I think I would look ill if I was that thin. I am aiming for 115- 120 and that is my happy medium. I think(lol).
Boy the last little bit of weight takes the longest to come off but boy it is worth it. I hope you are all well and your new way of life is working great. Cheers Lynn :yay:

Hi Munia...I've been going crazy with the Halloween candy in the house. I've eaten five or six pieces a day! Which leads to cravings for more food overall. So I got on the scale this morning – something I've been scared to do...and I've gained about 5 lbs! That shook me up and I'm back to my low carb ways. Isn't it amazing how we mess ourselves up?

And I thought I was the only "short" person in the world!LOL I'm 5 foot 3 and currently weigh 144.2. Because I'm short--even being 10 pounds overweight makes me look huge!

I'd like to weigh somewhere around 120-125. A few years ago I lost weight and got to 130. It was very hard to maintain that weight much less go lower! But, then again---I wasn't doing Atkins~~ I was on the low calorie/low fat kick and starving to death!!!!

I just wanted to say good luck to all the "petite" ladies out there. I know that we can conquer this weight loss things and show the world that "Big things truly do come in small packages"!

Welcome to Petite Ladies Jennielynn!

I too am 5'3" and know exactly what you mean when you say if you gain ten pounds you look huge. I'm not sure about you but my biggest problem was/is my thunder thighs. I have always hated my thighs. Even after losing 31lbs. they're still there, however; not anything like they used to be. People tell me that I look great so possibly I'm just being too critical of myself. We all tend to do that don't we?

Anyway, I started out at 150 (possibly more) and it took me quite some time to lose these 31lbs. What I'm here to tell you is DON'T GIVE UP!!! You may be saying to yourself, holy crap....I don't want it to take as long as it took her!!! and perhaps it might not. You're younger than I am, so at least you have your age on your side. To me, this WOE is easy once you get used to it. Although Halloween threw me off the wagon, I'm getting myself back on track.

Good luck to you with your LC journey. Always remember you can come to this forum to find any support you might need. I know without this, I would have NEVER made it this far.

Hi Everyone,

I'm very happy to have found your group.... everyone seem to have similar experiences with weight and size maintenance as I have.

I'm 5'4", very short torso, long arms and legs. I'm like many of you in that 5lbs makes such a huge difference on me. The short torso and very wide shoulders give me a very masculine "V" body..... it doesn't take much to look big.

I've been low-carbing for about a year now, some of it successfully and some not so successfully. I started out at 135lbs with no regular exercise. With low-carb and regular exercise (power walking 3x per week), I quickly dropped to 125lbs and about 2 sizes.

Then I plateaued, mainly due to my binge eating which I haven't been able to effectively control. I manage to do well for several days even a couple weeks, but when I binge it's big and with the highest carb junk food. PROBLEM.... I binge when I'm not even hungry !!

I got in control again and dropped to 120lbs (July 2003). I felt great and was very very happy with how I looked. Then the binge eating started again and I haven't managed to get it under control again. I hover between 123-128 lbs, today I'm 125lbs.

I do so-o-o well during the day. I plan my meals and eat properly, watching the carbs and calories...... and then I lose my mind at night. Halloween has been particularly difficult because all the children's candy and chips have been in my house, I've eaten so much of it myself. The biggest problem with all of this is that I'm not even hungry when I'm eating......

I guess I need to master the psychology part somehow too.

Looking forward to visiting regularly.

Liz Kay

Hello, and welcome to the forum. Maybe your problem is boredom in the evenings. When you get the urge to binge, find something to do. Maybe clean out that closet that is cluttered, or take the kids out for a walk. Get your mind off of the food and onto something else. Also helps to have LC snacks available, like cheese or pepperoni. Get the junk food out of the house. It isn't good for you or your children. Or at least limit the amount that you have around. Hope this helps.

Hi All,

I would like to join you again.....I kind of fell off the lo carb wagon early this year, and would like to try it again.
I have gained back most of my weight, but am still 10 lbs less than when I started. I have found that I am truly a sugar addict.....I have convinced my mom and brother that we should start the new year doing Atkins together. I found that when I stuck with this thread, i would always do a lot better....I need the support! I was on this thread a lot in 2002 and was missing some of my old friends. I am looking forward to meeting some new ones too!
A lot has changed on the forum, so I hope I am posting this correctly....(I am still driving in the information breakdown lane! LOL)

Planning on doing Atkins again.....have tried not to overindulge too much over the holidays, and am getting back to drinking lots of water...got to get back to the lo carb state of mind.

I just found this thread and I would like to join up: I am 5'2" and have spent some of my life below 130 and some of it (like now) over 150. RIGHT NOW I am 170 and am gearing up for a serious return to induction. I had a great expereince with Atkins in the past, but let it all come back. Now I aim to get on track and go to my lifetime goal: 120-125 and STAY THERE. My real start is on 1 January, 2004, but I am gearing up by giving up coffee, so I can really focus on the food issues whenI start induction. I am on day 2 without coffee, and though I miss it, I think I can make it through.... I definitely ate a lot of junk over the Holiday, and I have had an upset gut for about three days now!!!! When I am down in the 130 range I feel pretty fab -- up here where I am now, I feel like a disgusting slug. I am going to weigh it again after the two weeks of induction...
But will check in here to see how you all are doing.

Saw a message in my email box about a reply to the petite low carb forum, and what a coincidence it was, being today I started my new way of eating...I am 5 foot 4 1/2 in tall, and about 140 pounds, on a small frame..I store all my weight in my thighs and butt, some people say I have a J-LO butt, NOT what I like to hear......I would like to get down to 120 pounds again. I was there in high school and again when I swam laps for an hour every day, but I just do not have the time or strength to be doing that right now. I did the Low Carb thing last year in Feb when I joined this forum, right before I went on a cruise, and lost about 10 pounds. I weighed about 130 then, and since then I have gained 10 pounds back. Sooooo I really need to get on the ball here and get back to eating right. Also one other important thing is my dad just got diagnosed with diabetes, which runs in the family, so I'd like to avoid that of course. From what I understand this way of eating is a good way to NOT get diabetes. I think I may be hypoglycemic because after I have breakfast which is usually cereal or something sugary, I find sometimes in a few hours I get dizzy and hot and I crave sugar like mad crazy. And I won't even be hungry!!! Has anyone else ever had that happen? Also have loads of skirts and jeans that don't fit right or don't fit at all, and I want them too, also going to FL in Feb, so those are both incentives to get started. I sat here for an hour and read almost all the previous posts and it has inspired me let me tell you. Thats all for now!

Hi there!
I'm sooooo glad I found this petite corner to post!
I'm from Costa Rica so english is definitevely NOT my first language so I apologize in advance for all the mistakes you will see in my posts. I hope all of you will understand what I'm trying to say.
I'm 5,1 and began low carbing last june (I couldn't believe I have stick on it for almost 7 months!!!) I began at 170 my heaviest weight in all my life...and very slowly but steadely I have lost almost 30 pounds until today...I have 20 more pounds to go to 120. (LOL I haven't been in the 120's since high school, but this time I'll be there again! )
My goal weight at the stat says 130. I guess it was because when I first started I believe it was not possible to go lower than that. Many years of failures at low fat diets....
Now, it seems very possible. Maybe it will take me a year but who cares! I like this WOE very much and over all I like the way I'm feeling about myself.
Ruby count on me for all the support that I can give. I was there not so long ago and believe me that very soon we will be on 120 and as you said we will STAY IN THERE!
Swim1975 we are almost the same weight now! 20 pounds to go...is no that much! and in our petite frame will make a whole worls of difference!
Take good care all and keep posting!

I haven't posted on this thread for awhile. We can all relate to the struggle of weight on a petite frame! I work with a girl who is 6 ft. Just think at how we would look if we were that tall!!!

I carry all my weight in the middle. I wish I had a butt! HA HA

I am ready to set my sights on getting swimming suit ready!!! It may be several months but it will take me that long for sure. Slow yet steady!

I'm glad I came across this thread - I almost felt like I couldn't post here because like the original post stated, people tell me I look fine. But I'm 5'0", small boned, and my clothes just don't fit anymore. I quit smoking in 2000 and every year since have gained about 5 lbs.

I must be a carb addict because I just binge on them! We made gingerbread houses and I basically picked at 3 homes (smarties, jelly beans and all). (So it feels like this year the gain will be 10 lbs!)

So, tomorrow I start. I like the idea of having a forum to turn to for support!

Gee! its amazing how many of us there are ready to get going again for the New Year. Being short and being little or petite always feels different to me: I am short now but will be petite by the summer, I hope. I am on day three without coffee which is much easier than I thought it would be -- I keep expecting a huge headache to clap me over the head, but it hasn't happened yet. While i am still 'practising' before the 1st, I am also trying to figure out a way to let the vegetables work as 'comfort' food. Today I am spending the day in the library doing research, so I hope to be able to stay away from extra eating. Goodluck to you all,
Ruby J.

Hi all,
I'm just at 5ft and I feel like a little round snowoman at times. I used to wish I would be just a few inches taller, but not gonna happen.I'm also very short waisted,so that doesn't help much either.

WOw it is day 2 and I feel a little shaky from lack of sugar but I believe that is normal, I remember it happening last time. I am noticing I am not actually hungry, but just craving bread or something that is sweet. Isiar and all the other recent posts, have you all been exercising also? I am going to start up again next Mon. Right now I am battling a cold or I would be at the gym now!

Hi Swimm1975,
I remember being shaky and having a terrible headache the last time I started...you will get through that part, it will be a little harder I think if you are not feeling well on top of it.....hope you feel better soon. Hi fellow petite ladies....I have been eating what ever is in front of me for over two weeks....before that I was 132....this morning I weighed 140! could that be possible.....I'm not really asking...I know its water retention plus the sugar inbalance from all the chocolate candies and cakes in my house...

I'm not going to commit to eating the Atkins WOL til Jan 5th because as of this Wednesday I am home from work and am having loads of family over ...I'm just finding it so hard...I did soo good for Thanksgiving....I don't know why I'm so weak, but I know I can get back on track this coming Monday...I'm actually looking forward to my work and eating schedule being normal again!

I did 6 1/2 months without hardly a bite of bread or sweets..so I know I am addicted and can never do this again!

I want to be 125 for my birthday in April...that is what I'm aiming for and by October be 120 or under (My first born is getting married ) :)

Lets all stick together on this !!!

Thanks for listening  I don't know if I would have made it this far without you guys

Holaaaaaaa!
It is simply so cool to see this thread moving on the way of fitness and health! I know this coming year will bring us a better shape and full energy to enjoy life.

Swimm, I began low carb in june and I was a coach potato then. In August I make a HUGE effort to join a Gym and now I love it. I train 3X a week, cardio for 40 minutes and weight lifting for about an hour. I see you'll start next monday, I think is a good time to begin since your body will be more adapted to low carb. Just take it easy at the beginning...Don't forget your supplements!

Hi Carol! Nice to see you here! I knew you from our bithday challenge. Not sure if I'll be at 130 by april. I[ve been stalled for a month or so at 140 but I'll do my best for that birthday gift. I agree with you, most of those 8 pounds must be water. Just get back on track and those pounds will go easily. I ate one thin piece of cake by Christmas Eve and I felt the monster of carbs eating awakenning in myself. It was scary...LOL Thanks God I stop inmediately and he slept again...but I KNOW he is in there...

Ruby, how about vegetables with melted cheese and butter like a confort food? Hmmm Yummy There is a recipe in the Atkins book called Bagna Cauda or something like that...I use to do it as a dip for my veggies and it is really good!

Stephanie, so good you quit smoking. Those extra pounds will drop soon... I really would like to quit smoking myself..

Good low carb evenning for all,

I keep telling myself that as visions of breads and sweets pass before my eyes......

Hi,

I definately qualify as petite: I'm 4'7" at 226 :tears: , hoping to get down to 85lbs (that was my original weight oh so many moons ago, but I'd be happy at 100-115).

Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm a bit of a lurker and shy about posting.

Anyway, HELLO!!!! Hopefully I'm not intruding?

Oh, that veggies with cheese and butter does sound very very nice. Hello to Ernutet, and I, too, am starting from far away from my goal, and have something of the same goal dates in mind as you.
I am going to start induction on the 1st, and am working my way towards it. I am day 4 without coffee, and I think it was a good idea to get that more or less out of the way before I start the New WOE. --

I am trying not to binge before I start (thats the story of my losses and gains -- either I am binging on sugar or I am On Program -- very little inbetween for me), so instead of gorging on cakes before I start I am having some fruit and yogurt..and for tomorrow night I will be having a teensy split of Champagne....5 will be raising a toast of solidarity with Ms. Zinfandfel --

I am aiming hard to stay off the Atkins Bars while on Induction -- even while gaining back all the weight I lost before, I have always had a coffee and atkins bar for breakfast, but I think a break from that (for the first three weeks, anyway), may make my first weeks stronger. Any opinions on this as a strategy?

I am going to go to a swimming spa for three days starting on the 5th -- where I plan to do about a mile or so a day for the three days, to get back into the excercise habit. I am also hoping to get back to doing Yoga twice a week, which I began in the summer and then sort of lapsed out of as my weight rose.

Good luck to everyone, Ruby J.

One of my goals: TO FEEL COMFORTABLE ENOUGH AT MY HEIGHT (5.2) TO WEAR SHOES WITHOUT HIGH HEELS!!!!

Tue, Dec-30-03, 08:47
Wow Ruby! It sounds like you're planning your WOL very good. Way to go, girl!

I found that planning is a basic step to achieve our goal (You know, get rid of the carby things at home, have plenty of low carb options at hand, look for new recipes to incorporate them on a daily basis, eat before any activity out of home, etc)

Regarding the Atkins bar. i absolutely agree with you...cut them out! At least during induction. Later you will see but the cleaner induction is, the better. I never have one of them (I would like though but I can't get them in Costa Rica) but I have heard many bad stories of people being stalled by them here at the forum.

Talking about stalls...my scale seems to be stuck at 140 since december 16. I havent seen a new low since then and I have been good as an angel...UGH! On 24 th it went up to 143 and then down again until now with no apparent reason..Well, at least I haven't gained weight during this season for the first time in many years...so I couldn't complain but I would love to see 130's something appearing on the scale...Patience is the name of the game.

Well, have a good low carb day all! :daizy:

Happy New Year to all!

Well, I made it through day one of 2004....had a birthday party/New years party last night, and a Birthday party today.....stuck to induction though....and drank ALL my water! Something I find pretty hard to do in general. I put a glass 1/2 gallon milk bottle full of water next to the sink and that was a good tool...actually knowing how much more I had to drink today.
Brought shrimp and chicken wings to the party, so everyone else lo-carbed with me too, without knowing it...I too hope we all meet our goals in 2004!

Ranger that is a great idea to have your drinking water bottle ready to go every day. Myself I drink bottled water so its easy to keep track of how much I drink. For some reason though I have always drank alot of water so for me its no problem. For alot of others though, water makes them gag, especially when they have to drink alot of it! Speaking of gagging, listen to what happened to me yesterday. It is my fifth day of induction, and yesterday we had the new years day party including a birthday celebration complete with a b-day cake. Well I took one bite out of my piece (yellow cake with white icing) and I almost hit the roof. It was SO sweet! Sickening sweet, I couldn't even it eat. And my grandmom's cookies, which always tasted normal to me, were the same way, I couldn't eat them either. Has that happened to anyone else? Its a good way to stay away from sugar let me tell you.

Hi there!

Nice to see everybody is enjoying this! Way to go, girls!

I weighted 142 this morning, 2 pounds up! Hope it is water retention. I guess I overindulged on low-carb foods on NY's Eve: cheese, olives, asparragus dip...and even peanuts and whiskey, whiskey and whiskey.

I'm glad all the celebrations are over. December was a very difficult month for me and the weight loss slowed way too much and took the up and down pattern that demands ALL my patience. Was at 141 at Dec. 1st, go up to 143.5 at dec 10, then I hitted a new low by dec.16 140!!!!, back to 143 by dec. 24...down to a new low by december 31: 139,5 and then up to 142 today.

Patience....

Best wishes to all

Isiar -- it is frustrating to have these blips, but look how far you have come already! ANd I bet even four days of induction will bring you down to 140 again! 143 sounds like a miracle to me....I spent some depressing hours in Liberty's (a rather wonderful London department store having its New Year's sale)yesterday trying on things that a year ago would have seemed like 'fat' clothing, and even they were tight!!! But after two days of induction I feel that confidence of knowing this can't last for long!

Ruby, thanks for makes me remember that 143 is STILL a miracle for me! :)
I remember all the frustration that I was feeling not so long ago because I knew that I was getting bigger and bigger and I just couldn´t stop the binging.
I haven´t bought new clothes either. Even when my weight was going up I refused to get rid of old clothes, and now I;m wearing them. Some of them seems to be a little old fashioned but the renewal of the outfit will be the golden reward!
So, hang in there! Soon you will go to Liberty´s and every single piece will look wonderful on you. ;)
LOL!...and I will have to go to Miami or NY, because in this little country there isn´t any wonderful department store

We can do this together!

That is what I always used to say on this thread over a year ago, and I just thought of it. You folks are so supportive of each other, that is what I really love about this thread.....went to the movies today with DD and her little friend from preschool.....survived McDonalds with a salad with a piece of chicken on it, and a bottled water....then didn't eat the popcorn at the movies....that was hard! Drinking water like crazy, but feel really bloated today....TOM is 8 days away.....shouldn't be that, perhaps, somewhere I ate too much salt.

Had dinner guests last night, and served roast pork, broccoli, salad, (they had mashed potatos). I had made some chicken wings that were dipped in butter, then rolled in a mix of parmesan cheese, garlic powder and tarragon.....and then baked. Perhaps the cheese had a lot of salt? Afraid to weigh in tomorrow, feeling so bloated.
Take care all,
Carol

Ruby J.
Sun, Jan-04-04, 01:10
Your dinner sounds fab...the cheese probably did have lots of salt -- nothing cures bloating as well as more water! I think a big big cup of hot water and lemon in the morning, just when I get up really helps get my body going.

Hi guys!
I am now over that annoying cold and back to the Y as of yesterday. It feels great. I am sore as ever though. I have been eating LC for exactly one week now and I am feeling much better, no more shaking or ravenous cravings for sugar. I am not as "puffy" either, I can feel my cheekbones alot more now. But I got on a scale yesterday and haven't lost any weight yet. I don't own a scale but today I am going out to get one. I think I might be over doing it with the cheese and not enough vegetables so I am also going to buy some veggies today. Yes please lets stick together keep on posting I read them all! As corny as it sounds everyone here is part of the drive to keep me going because alot of people think I'm nuts for eating like this. I actually don't tell many people because of their reaction....so keep the posts coming!!!! Have a good one!

Sun, Jan-04-04, 10:25
Hi all!
...we go, girls!

I know that little victories like the ones that Carol describes (not to eat that popcorn at the movies, surviving Mc Donalds, having guest at home and prepare a Low-carb dinner...) are the ones that can make the whole difference in this WOL

I found that the stricter I'm the more focus I get. When I began whith the "one little piece will not hurt" theory...everything becomes more difficult....maybe it could be explained by the insuline resistance issue.

I would love to try your chicken wings recipe this coming week. Sounds yummy. BTW I ate chicken wings soup 3 times last week. I made it with chicken livers. ...I know it doesn't sounds good  but I don't know what the chicken livers have that my body craves for them...Hmmm I will check the carbs of the chicken livers...

When I feel bloated or my weight goes up I repeat this mantra: "It takes 3500 extra calories to gain one pound of fat. .So, there's NO way that it is a pound of fat. It is water"
Scales can lie way too mch! In a given week a woman might have loss 2 pounds of fat but retained 3 pounds of water. When she steps on the scale, all she see is a 1 pound gain.
Much more reliable measure is your volume. Swimm, have you take your measures?

.....and even knowing that, many times I felt discouraged by the scale!

Happy low carbing sunday to all!

Hi everybody,

I am having a hard time going back to low carbing after the holidays. I tried to get back on track two days ago but the cake leftovers were shouting my name so loud, I just had to eat it. I know, the good way to make the shouting stop is to throw it in the garbage! There is still a lot of different cakes and cookies leftover in the house, DH won’t let me throw all of those in the garbage so I hope visiting you will help me stay focus.

I didn’t expect it to be so hard. Before Christmas, I was low carbing without even thinking about it.

I have been cheat free for 7 hours now…

Ruby J.
Sun, Jan-04-04, 14:08
Dear CalicoCat:
Oh I know how miserably horrible it is when you slip and stumble at the beginning -- but hey, guess what, there is a new beginning right now for you -- its true that all that stuff around the house is a killer -- and 7 hours is almost a whole Shift -- so you can finish this SHIFT with a perfect record, and then go right ahead to the SECOND SHIFT, with a perfect record behind you.... anyway, sometimes things begin slow, and then as you build up your love of the food that loves you -- LOW CARB -- you will get better at it, and before you know it you will be back on track... Good Luck, and We are Standing with You! Ruby J.

Swimm1975
Sun, Jan-04-04, 16:53
Keep checking in CalicoCat!! Everytime you hear the carbs and sweets calling your name, log onto here instead. Or drink some water! We have alot of goodies around here too, my husband doesn't want me to toss, he is not eating no carbs, as a matter of fact he is eating almost all carbs! But anyhow, it is hard, but not impossible, to resist when the temptation is right there in your house. I have a cat who is obese, so her and I are trying to shed some pounds together. I think so far she has me beat though.
I bought a scale today. I was so excited until I stepped on it! Isiar, you asked if I had taken measurements, no I haven't yet, I do have the tape, but need to know where exactly do you measure. Yes I know hips and waist. Hips are measured from around the widest part of your rear correct? And waist is around your belly button? Sorry might sound like a dumb question but I really don't know never having had to measure myself before. Have a good evening!

Hi Calicocat,
I agree with Swimm1975, keep checking in here....the support is great. One step at a time. We too have lots of sweets in the house, I even baked zucchinni bread for the guests after the holidays...yikes, what was I thinkin'?
But you just have to have the mindset that the sugar is not going to help you...I think Isiar is right about "that one little bite" not hurting. I got back to reading my Atkins book and found a lot of little things I hadn't noticed the first time I read it. It might be worth either getting the book or rereading it....

I picked up an Atkins journal at the store yesterday, and wrote everything I ate or drank today...and I was surprised at how much I paid attention to every bite. I know you can keep a journal here too, but it is so handy to have the book, and I have limited computer time.

I will have to try the lemon and water in the am...but I swear, I was up 7 times to go to the bathroom last night!
I am sure that is a good sign, but I am sleepy! Good night to my petite friends, we can do this together!

Ruby J, Swimm1975, Ranger and Sassy57, thank you so much for your support. I haven’t cheat in 24 hours :yay: .

Ranger, I write all that I eat on fitday.com and it helps me a lot to plan good meals and good snack. But for the sugar attacks, you guys are the best!
About attaining your goal for Christmas next year, only time will tell you if your goal was attainable. All I can say is that it looks reasonable to me. If setting a date for your goal helps you to stay focus, go for it! When I put a date for my goals, I tend to get depressed when I get stuck :baby: . So, instead, I always try to choose a goal that I have absolute control over. Like no cheating until Valentine’s Day or no more than 50 net carb daily, or exercising 5 days a week. Those are goals that I have control over.

Carol, I am sure that most of it is water. Stay good for a week and I bet most of it will just disappear. Look at what happened to Ranger: 5 lbs in 4 days!

Swimm1975, it doesn’t really matter where you measure, as long as you always measure at the same place so when you want to compare what you use to measure and what you are measuring now, you can be sure you really lost those inches in that particular area. I measure my waist at the narrowest part and it is a little above my belly button. If you are measuring to get your body fat, that’s another story. You have to take the measurements precisely where you are supposed.

Have a nice low carbing day everyone!

Hi there!

So many small victories here! Way to go!.

As you'll see I'm a fan of little steps....

I like what Calicocat said about setting goals. It feels right to me. We could set a goal in order to get focus. BTW a set mine (0.5 per week. would be at 125 on august 22, 0.5 pds is my average weight loss after the 9 induction pounds) But I know it could take more time and all I can do is to stick to the plan and keep going with my workouts.

Swimm, you can take your measures as Carol explained. Also, you might want to go to mybodycomp.com (It's free, they request subscription but I haven't receine any mail from them) It's a nice tool for measure your progress. There you can find a explanation of how to measure, you can enter the information and it will give you the fat%. Don't scare! I guess that the % of the site are way too high, the first time I use it was over 40.
Well, maybe is not the site...it's me!

Carol, to gain 10 pounds of fat in that period of time you need to eat more than 3000 cals daily. Most of it is water and will drop quickly.

Happy low carbing week to all. I appreciate all of your post too much. Thank you!

PS Ruby, how are you doing?

Hi there!
How are you doing?
Felt little discouraged this morning. The scale seems to be stuck at 140. It seems that those last 15 pds will take me the whole year...Hope not the next one! ;)

Happy day to all

Well, I lost 2 of those 10 pounds in one day of induction eating..so I'm guessing it was some water weight there going on...just glad I have stopped the bad choices..living in Florida, summer is here in a few weeks.. :(

Got to think Positive and its not worth it to stress and eat..." A moment on your lips....forever on your hips" :)

I did have quite a bit of olives with lunch today...got to watch the sodium.

Isiar, I weigh 140 at 5 ' 1 1/2" ......I want to be 125 by my birthday in April..

WE CAN DO THIS :cheer:

Carol and Isiar thanks for your advice on measuring...Isiar I went to that mybodycomp.com and read the article about insulin resistance..unbelieveable, it described exactly how I used to be before LCing. I am going to measure myself tomorrow morning so its more accurate..
Slipped up a little bit today and yesterday with the sugar. I am having a hard time not craving it. I really don't miss the bread like I miss the sugar. I had a couple scoops of chocolate pudding yesterday. I don't even like chocolate, it was the sugar I was wanting. Well I felt like someone hit me on the head with a shovel after I was done the pudding. It really wasn't worth it!!!
I have been working out though since Saturday. What a difference that makes in the way I feel.
PS Carol you say summer in FL starts in a few weeks?? When is that exactly? I am headed down the last week of Feb. Daytona Beach area. I always visit in May or June.... Never been down there in our "winter". Is it warm enough for the beach??

carol.pino
Tue, Jan-06-04, 15:05
I'll be at the Daytona 500, Feb. 15th....hopefully (getting tickets in two weeks) I asked someone if this warm weather (Sunday was in the 80's) was unusual for this time of year and they said to safely tell you it will be in the 70's (jean and t-shirt kind of weather) Sweater for night.

That's what I'm wearing to the Race (my DH is a Rusty Wallace Fan) and got me a lady's T-shirt.

I love this weather but not the fact that I am over weight in it..

I've been drinking lots of water and last night I craved chocolate and had a Tablespoon of Atkins choc. ice cream....then I went to bed...I did go down 2 lbs. so I'm hoping the 130's aren't too far off..maybe by the race

Don't give up! Isiar, I bet when you only have a few lbs to lose it takes a lot longer....(not exactly my problem, although I hope it will be someday! LOL)

I figured out a trick to guzzle water, if you are the type to not maybe drink all that you should....my DH picked up some pork rinds for me, knowing that I can eat them on Atkins, but he got the hot and spicy kind....(I am a wimp, but was really craving something crunchy, so I ate them anyway, and then drank about (3) 20 oz glasses of water....I had already finished my 64 ozs. today, so, I am at almost double my water intake! Yikes, doesn't a gallon of water weigh 8 lbs...I'm sure I will be visiting the bathroom many times tonight.

It is finally getting really cold here tonight....we have been pretty lucky so far, the holidays were mild..but BRRRR.....single digits with wind chills.

I did go skiing today for a couple of hours with my 4 1/2 yo DD, I was sweating at some points, and was constantly picking her up..(she thinks falling is funny!) So I guess I got some exercise....stay warm everyone....Florida sounds really nice, right about now!

I'm with you! WE CAN ALL DO THIS HOWEVER SLOW..BETTER A 1/2 POUND OFF THAN ON..

I am doing the tony little Gazelle each night while watching TV..I already feel better in my clothes but the scale said 140 still this morning...I know I changed my weight on Dec. 13th to 132...but I'm keeping it there for this month and will change it if it does not come off after doing KISS.

It got real chilly here too...has to be in the 50's...having lunch out with some girlfriends and I am sharing a chef salad w/ranch (the place we go make them really big) and drinking alot of water :)

Mini SUPER new low of 0.5pds today on my first day or TOM...Isn't it weird? LOL but I'll take it and I'll update my stats later!

Smuffy, look how far you have become already! You're such an inspiration for all of us!

Carol.p Hang in there! I know sometimes requires all our patiense but it worth it. So, are you doing the KIS approach? I was thinking to give it a try...but I guess I can't give up my coffee.

Summer is here and I'm planning to go to the beach from tomorrow to Sunday. Any suggestions for the food? I was thinking in beef patties, cheese, eggs, roasted chicken, marinated fish (ceviche), pork rinds and macadamia nuts. Also I will prepare some veggies in olive oil (peppers, eggplant and onions). I wouldnt like to go there, be hungry and doesn't have any low carb food to eat...It could be extremely dangerous ;)

Ooops! another question. I would like to know what do you think about it.

My super dream goal weight would be 125 (I'm 5.1). Sounds reasonable but still difficult. I haven't dare to change my goal weight at my stats ...just because 130 sounds possible and I love to see the% going up...lol...but lately I'm thinking that maybe it's time to set in my mind a THE goal.

Any thoughts about it?

Hi I am also a newbie and I am 5 feet 3 inches. I have a lot of weight to lose. I just started the induction and it is going well. I am so happy to see the petitie ladies group. I also hear from my friends that I look fine but this is the heaviest I have ever been. Since my youngest is going to be 9 I decided it is time to get the baby weight off

Hi everyone
Ranger it has been a little over 2 years that I have been on this way of life. It has only been a year since I found this site. I started Nov 15/01. SO I have taken my time to try to ensure it will stay off. I am down 125 pounds and now I weigh 127 so 1 more pound and I have lost myself lol.
This site is great for encouragement, answers, and a good pat on the back!!!!! We need to realise that it is use that makes it this way and I would like to say great job guys you all rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To all those aperhensive to change your goal may I ask why? You are in this for the rest of your life and this is not a quick fix so why not set it lower? It may take a bit longer but you do have the rest of your life to lose and maintain the very asertainable goal you set for yourself. When I set mine at 120 comming from 252 I thought it was a pipe dream and that yes it was good to set a goal but I would never reach it.How could I lose that much weight when nothing else I had tryed worked and now why would this. But Boy did I prove myself wrong. And so can anyone here!!!!!!!! Any help you need just ask. I will try to help. :yay: Good luck and happy low carbing!!!!

I was just in our office break room where they have chairs & tables and snack machines (nothing low carb in there!) and I over hear this women talking to the snack machine ...She said Oh, Good they have pretzles...low fat...eating less is hard...

Well, I wish I was strong enough to say you can eat more and loose!

I am so glad I found this WOL I just had to share this with you all, if she asked for my opinion I would have said something...(almost everyone in the office has commented on my weight loss and they know its Atkins..but some choose low fat...)

I was once one of those people...I know that is why I am now 20 pounds heavier!!!

Hi all,

Just got back from skiing again....it is freezing here...like 10 degrees...but at least sunny....Dora, the beach sounds so awesome to me right now....think I will take a hot shower and pretend I am somewhere tropical.....I bet it it pretty dern cold in Minnesota!

I have stuck to this for a week now and am down 8 lbs....it would be nice if I could do that for the next week of induction too.....we will certainly try.

Today I had 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast with 3 sausage links, and 2 chicken thighs for lunch and water....I am not even that hungry for dinner....perhaps more tired from skiing....at least I am not ravenous, like I usually am this time of day.....

Does anyone know if flavored decaf coffee, like hazelnut or toasted almond cream have extra carbs in them? I didn't see them in my Atkins carb counter...I had a cup with breakfast and it tastes too good to be true...almost like a dessert. I also bought some stevia and was wondering if anyone else uses it? Any comments?

My mom is doing atkins too and finds she is constipated...anyone use the physillium husks? Any other ideas....? Thanks Carol

Hey Carol congrats on losing the 8 lbs!!! :yay:

It is cold here in Minnesota. My husband, two kids and I went skiing over the holiday season and the kids love it. I am more of the stay in lodge and have a warm drink kind of gal.

Sorry about your mom being constipated. I have suffered through IBS for years with constipation. The only thing that works for me is Green Tea. And usually a couple of cups do it. I have tried the p. husks but it doesn's work for me. It does have caffeine in it though.

Good luck and keep up the good work.

It is very cold here too. –25C (don’t know what it makes in F but it gets pretty close near –30)

I am not loosing right now but my carbs are more in the maintenance range than in the loosing range. I think lowering my carbs will be my goal for the next few days.

Hi everyone --
I am just back from a short swimming holiday, where I spent three days in the pool -- went from doing 3/4 of a mile to 1.2 miles to, on the third day,l 2.5 miles-- it was GREAT!!!

Now I am back in London, and ready to really get going on the New Year. I did my first weigh-in just now and have lost 4.5 lbs, which has made me feel as if this is going to be my Year of Success!!!

I read through the posts from the last couple of days, and it sounds as if everyone is working hard -- it is so helpful to come back and find the thread going strong.

Have a good weekend,

Ruby J.

Hello everybody and congratulations on the pounds lost! I just changed my stats I have lost about 6 pounds since I started, that was a couple days before New Years. ....Ruby J.... swimming is my favorite pasttime..and great exercise, I am at the Y every morning at 5.30 am doing cardio trying to build myself up to get back in the pool! I used to swim for an hour every day and thats when I was at my goal weight, maybe even a little less. You guys are right when you say for us how much even a little weight loss/gain is so noticeable. Already my face looks different. Too bad my thighs don't! hahaha! Take care!

I so look forward to checking this thread. It makes my day. :cheer:

I am on my third week of induction and feel sooo much better. I had no idea what a drastic and better change it would be for my body. I am on the treadmill daily now, not running just walking and watching my taped soap opera The Young and the Restless. So I usually walk 40 minutes.

You all make me want to get through this weight loss and put a smile on my face.

My good mood may be to the balmy 12 degrees out today. It is supposed to 30 by Sunday :yay:

Take care and have a great weekend :yay:

Glad to see everyone keeps posting! Hahaha...Here its a "balmy" 19 going down to another "balmy" 5 this evening. This weather really sucks. I have to run out to the truck to warm it up before I can go out anywhere! Time to move to Florida! Every morning I get up at and start up the truck before I go to the Y, even if it is 5 degrees out with a windchill of minus something, I won't let it stop me! Let me tell you though, I fight with myself as I lay under a warm electric blanket at 5 am, and I force myself to get up put on a coat or two and go out there.
Does anybody have any suggestions for LC alcohol drinks? I am going to get together with a friend this evening, and I don't know whats ok to drink. I know I CANT have the ususal amaretto and OJ. On New Years Eve I was in the 3rd day of induction and I drank water. Wooohhoooo!!! Don't want to do that again!

Hi PKV,
Thanks for the kind words, I am really happy about it...today I was down 1 more so I am at nine lbs gone....woohoo!...it seems too easy right now, of course I have a long way to go, and am sure it won't be coming off so fast in the future.....but for now...yippee!

I haven't talked to my Mom today to see if the Physillium husks are working. I will have to tell her about the Green Tea. We went grocery shopping and I was surprised to see so many lo carb items on the shelves..Hood lo carb milk and chocolate milk with only 3 net carbs, Atkins Ice cream, and other brands too, and lo carb cookies with some of them being 0 net carbs....I picked up a few items to try after I am off of induction...don't want to mess anything up there....
Stay warm, tonight we have record low temps, time to crawl under the covers and stay there! Even too cold for skiing....Sunday it is supposed to be balmy at 20 degrees....My horse and pony and goats hate this cold weather!

Hi all!!!!

Wow! It's so nice to check the thread and see we've lost more than 20 pounds in a week or so!!!! Congratulations to all of you!!!! :dazzle:

I'm so happy to report that ANOTHER ONE BIT THE DUST :D I weighted 138.5 this morning and I feel in heaven.

Beach was fun and I managed to stay on the plan so good. Weakest moment? When my fiiends ordered pizza. That was difficult but today I'm glad I didn't eat it.

Ranger, psyllium makes all the difference for me. Especially at the beginning when I was constipated almost all the time. Now, it's much better and happens only ocassionally. I take 1 tbsp in powder with water before bed. It tastes awful but it works for me.

Carol, I was wondering about the same that you asked since my weight loss has slow down. I've read many times in this forum that a good rule of thumb is to eat 10X your body weight to loose weight. My natural intake to feel satisfy and not to be extremely careful watching my portions it's about 1600 and with that I've managed to loose weight so far. Now, I'm wondering if I need to eat about 1400 to continue loosing.

This quote is from PP: "If your trying to loose weight -especially if you're small person- you may have to curb your fat intake somewhat. Otherwise you may have too much food coming in, so tour body won't need to dip into yor fat stores"

Smuffy, could you help us with this?

Happy low carb week to all!

Ranger, You already are doing very well so maybe you don’t really want to exercise more, but please don’t blame it on the weather.

There are so many kinds of workout that you can do inside or in the snow. If you have snow, you can go cross-country skiing or put on some snowshoe and go to the mountain (do you have mountains?). If you want to stay warm inside your house, you can put a Pilates tape on and follow along. You only need to have a plan. If you are looking for some ideas, look in the threads Exercise Forums: Active Low-Carbers. I am sure you will end up finding something that suits your needs.

I know it is disappointing to loose your favourite kind of exercise but you can also see this as an opportunity to discover some new ones.

Hola!!!!

Brrrr! seems to be really cold there! Paula you should think in Costa Rica as a destine for your next tropical vacation! There is a lovely weather here all the year. I´m glad you are finding this wol easier now.

New mini new low of 0.5 this morning. I had not seen a new low since Dec.16 and I lost 2 pds, this week. Next time I stalled for 3 weeks, please remember me that is the way my weight drops! :p

Ranger, BTW, don´t worry about those 2 pds. It ´s water. I ALWAYS go up after new lows. I keep celebrating new lows but knowing I´ll be up for the next days until a new low appears again. I´m glad your mother is doing so well. My brother is in his second week and he´s doing good, also. Isn't it cool? When somebody you love change his eating habits just because he/she has seen your results?

Well, have a good low carb day all!

The less weight you have to take off the slower it goes. It is just the way it is. I don't suggest you lower your calorie count as this is a low carb way of life not a calorie counting diet. It will come in time!!!
Make sure you are drinking your water and watching that there are no hidden carbs in your food. If the carbs are not labled don't eat it. I have just a bit to go and man have I slowed but like I said I am ok with it as this is my way of life now and I have nothing to gain by rushing it. Just weight to lose. The closer you get to your goal the more content you get with the way you look. I am ok with me now so if it takes me a year to get the 15 pounds off oh well. I am just going to plug away and get there sooner or later!!!!!!
I hope this helps! :wiggle: Lynn

I do cross country ski and snowshoe a little, but I love downhill skiing the best....I know some think it is not much of a work out, but just getting my boots on has me sweating at my current weight! Good Morning All :)

Hate to repeat myself...but we are all 5'5" and under...quick question:

Are you all counting calories and carbs to continue loosing weight are you decreasing calories as you loose????

And if so, how many calories are you eating?

The last few days I have been eating between 1100 - 1400, I used to eat around 1600 according to fitday and I lost 12 pounds but for the month of December and January I have not budged (2 pounds up...2 pounds down).

Also since Monday, I am not eating past 6:30 (just a mug of decaf tea or coffee at around 8.)

Thanks guys :rheart:

Hi Carol
I'll be honest, I haven't been counting how many calories, I am just eating little to no carbs and no sugar. I feel so full after eating just a little bit, I am wondering if I am eating enough calories, but the numbers on the scale keep going down. And I drink water constantly! I also do cardio for an hour every day now and also some weight training.
Someone posted here that the less you have to lose the slower it comes off, which I find true for myself. I only lose about a pound to half a lb. a week now. I really wouldn't go crazy staring at the scale though, because everyone's weight fluctuates a pound or so daily. I took my measurements also, and gauge how much I'm losing on how clothing fits, (especially underwear!)
You may have already stated if you are exercising, are you? I swear eating alone for me doesn't do it, I have to do both. Have a good day!!!

Thanks Swimm1975....(thats the year I graduated...showing my age!) :)

I think my inactivity is my problem...My job keeps me in front of a computer 8 hours a day...

I have started doing the Winsor Palates 20 minute tape every other day (started Jan. 5th) I just need to find a good cardio workout that I will stick with.

Of course it helps! I guess you put all in the very right perspective. Thanks!

Hello my fellow petites

Had a very rough day yesterday (posted my journal) and this forum really saved me. I scrolled and to see everyone's weight loss made me stay on track :yay:

Don't know what my problem was, PMS, cold weather or what. I decided only to weigh my self weekly instead of daily.

Just popped in to say Hello and hope everyone is having a fabulous lc day :bhug:

Hello all.

PKV...I agree with you. This forum has saved me when I'm stalled out and frustrated. I see what others are doing and what they're going through and I feel supported.

Hi Munia...good to see you. I'm so happy to see you sticking with the program Look what you've achieved! Remember when you first started out and you didn't know if you could do it? That was months and months ago and look how far you've come. Keep it up! You're doing great!

Calories. I don't count calories. Now that I'm back to eating sensibly after my holiday of munching sugar, I'm finding that just by sticking to Atkins (which is really second nature to me by now) the weight I gained is falling off.

Let's keep supporting each other. This is a great forum.

Now I don't even feel like snacking....Stay warm!

I have also 50 lbs to lose... I just found out that I will be attending the 50th anniversary of our SCUBA diving clubs Clinic/Symposium in Boston....there will be a formal cocktail party....black tie...so I will have to wear a long dress, and then on Saturday at the film festival, which is hosted by Bob Ballard, (the guy who found the Titanic,) we members have to stand up in front of the whole audience...(something like 2,000 people) I think....yikes, better stick with the induction stuff....wouldn't it be cool if I could get to 175 or 180 by then? I better kick up the exercising a notch! Then I could buy a new dress! Wish me luck!

Hi Ranger

My 20th class reunion is next fall and I don't want to waddle in there either. I was stick thin in high school.

I am not a farmer but I am a stay at home mom who doesn't wear anything but sweats or jeans  I would love to be able to buy a shirt and tuck it into my jeans....maybe that is my next goal :wiggle:

Happy shopping and stay warm, I hear it is freezing out there. You know it is like that all winter here

About that whoosh fairy, I could use it too. These days, I feel like I am the only human being who hasn’t lost all the weight she gained over the holidays!

Ranger, of course I wish you luck but most of all, I believe in your ability to reach your goal. When is that big date?

Fri, Jan-16-04, 10:02
Hi Paula,
I was never stick thin, and was heavy in high school...(also the butt of a lot of mean jokes and name calling because of it). When I went to my 20th I was 195 lbs, and nervous, but when I got there, so many of the people who made fun of me...were exactly like me!...high school was so hard for me being overweight and so shy and insecure, but I realized at my 20th, that people had changed a lot (matured I guess) and I had a wonderful time. (of course, now you can't shut me up! LOL) Shy/ Who me...

I would just like to be in good shape when I go to the 25th...for me mostly...but a little so people will notice...I admit it! Plus the most important thing is I want to keep up with my 4 year DD!

It is colder here today than I have ever seen it! My eyeballs are burning right now, from doing my chores in the barn this morning.

Two of our goats live in a seperate pen with a small shed, and they were shivering so bad, I put some of my old down vests on them...they look hilarious, but I bet they will be warmer. Don't know if I could live where you do, and have this cold all the time...

My mom is doing well, she is down 11 lbs....she beat me by 1 lb!, I will keep doing what I am doing....the Sea Rovers Clinic is on March 5-7.....I am hoping to be 180 by then...I wonder if that is too hard a goal to reach (hmm, my question mark key seems to be frozen) maybe 190 would be more realistic....or just keep plugging and whatever will be will be!

I have been stuck at 10 lbs lost for 4 days or so...hoping more will come sliding off soon...

Good luck on your Valentines goal!

Ranger I had to stop weighing myself daily because it would make or break my day. I am a Thursday only weigh in gal. Good luck

I am so sorry you were teased in High School as much as everyone grows up you never forget that. I have a dd who just turned 9 and is overweight (about 15 pounds which doesn's sound like much but it is all around her tummy) Anyway if the the kids aren't teasing her for that it is for her being so smart. Luckily I volunteer in her classroom alot to see it is not everyone and she has some great friends. Point being she never has forgotten those mean comments. She has gotten on the band wagon exercising on the treadmill daily and has lost 5 of those pounds since Xmas as well as watching what she eats. My 10 year old is skinny  Sorry I got so wordy

Stay warm, is it expected to get any warmer this weekend?

It is supposed to warm up tomorrow afternoon I think...maybe even into the 30s! Wow, almost sun tan weather...woohoo! Maybe I can get a few runs in on the ski slope...it was so cold here the local ski area CLOSED for 3 days! Now that is cold. LOL.

PKV....I hear you loud and clear about the bathing suit thing and FL. I am headed down there in almost 1 month...and its not just the bathing suit I am worried about. All my summer clothes fit too tightly last time I checked. !!!!
I also wanted to share I changed my weight stats today. Because when I got on the scale this morning, I went down about 4 pounds. I even moved the scale around 3 different times. Couldn't believe it was right...I think the hourly cardio workouts and weight training has helped the pounds disappear.. and my jeans fit differently, that is a better way to gauge the loss for me.
Well ladies if you are getting stuck, keep plugging along and keep working out because it makes it makes the "Whoosh" Fairy visits more frequent!!!! And keep posting! I read them every day!!!

Calicocat, hang in there! I began low carb last june and have stalled twice since then. The last time was for 3 weeks (that seems to be 3 months for me! ;) ). I was doing everything right. Was watching my carbs, doing my cardio, lifting weights and no lost. Then things began to move again with no apparent reason and since then I've lost 2 pounds in a week or so. I would like to know why this happen. I've read a lot of posts regarding stalls but I haven't found a scientific explanation for it but hang in there! As soon as you stick to the plan the wight will drop again.

I have 2 questions for the group.....

1. Do you go by the amount of carbs in Atkins Carb counter book, or by the carbs on the package? I was just wondering because today I was munching on some almonds that have 4 grams of carbs minus 3 grams of fiber = 1 gram net carbs in 1/4 of a cup....so I had about a cup full thinking it was 4 carbs...then I looked in the carb book and it said something like 3.2 net carbs!
Ouch! Which should I go by? Just curious.

2. I bought some of Atkins Accel supplements, just took the first one yesterday....I was reading the label and it has green tea with caffeine in it....the Atkins website says 1 tablet is equal to about 1 cup of coffee....I thought we were supposed to avoid caffeine, which I have been doing. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I did read also that the Accell should be taken after induction....I was planning on staying on induction until I lost a bunch more...so perhaps I should avoid them completely for a while...appreciate any advice?

It's all so confusing, and your mileage may vary, so the best thing is to monitor your own results, in spite of what anyone else might do. Good luck. It's all up to you and your own metabolism.

1. I go for the carbs on the package BUT make sure that the label doesn't lie!. Here it's an excellent thread that explain the tips and tricks of label reading
Also, regarding nuts, in my humble opinion, moderation is the key. I know we are not supposed to count calories but it's a fact that they are very calorie dense. Take a look to the DANRD (I gave mine to my brother) but I have the idea that there's some limitation there...not sure. Also, are you sure that they are allowed during induction? (I guess I need my book back ;) )

http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=28869

2. Where did you read that the Accell should be taken after induction? Was at the Atkins site?

Ranger
Sun, Jan-18-04, 15:13
Hi Dora,

Thanks for the info...I thought you could have nuts, as long as it is after the first two weeks? Maybe I have that wrong...I will try to stay away from them anyway...I tend to eat half the bag instead of 1/4 cup!

I am pretty sure it was on the Atkins site that the Accell was for use after induction.....I guess I am confusing the first two weeks as induction, and the following weeks trying to stick to around 20 grams of carbs. Do you know what I mean?

That some foods are not to be eaten those first two weeks, and that others may be eaten afterward, just as long as you stay around 20? Maybe I misunderstood....and should just stick with what I was eating the first 14 days....Thanks for your help!

Hi Carol!
Yes, I guess it could be a little confusiing. Induction is defined by the food you eat (you eat only the food that are allowed at induction list) NOT by the time (2 weeks). You can do induction for more than 2 weeks or you can decide to move to OWL incorporating other foods, like nuts or berries. I have seen many people here that moves to OWL just by incorparating new foods but mantaining the carb intake at 20 grams but it is no longer induction.

Yes, it is very easy to overindulge in nuts! I found that it could be a great low-carb treat but I have a tendency to eat the whole package in no time...

I have a question. Does anybody know of a good low carb/sugar spaghetti sauce??? I want to use it with chicken though, NOT spaghetti....
I was bad bad bad this weekend. Was out to dinner with friends, and I had a steak which was ok. But I also ate the evil baked potato that came with it. Oh yes and 2 Mailbu Baybreezes. And after that did not order dessert, but helpled my sister sitting next to me eat her peanut butter and chocolate laden cake. I don't know what came over me. Well my weight went up two pounds since then, also its been snowing here and missed a day at the gym.
So I have been drinking water like mad crazy since my carb episode and I am reeeeeally going to watch it this week. Let me tell you ladies the potato was NOT worth it!!! And neither were the drinks or dessert!
Have a lovely day!!!

Just get back on the Bandwagon! You can do it! Isn't is funny that something seems so incredible that you have to have it, like a potato or a dessert, and then afterwards it wasn't that great after all. Hi there!

I found this article very "informative", so I would like to share,

OUT OUT DAMN SCALE

By Sonya Tilley, CarbSmart Contributor

Here we go again...

How the hell does your body hold onto weight and still manage to get smaller while you are on your chosen low carb diet?!? You know the scenario: You are on Induction for two weeks, and you haven't cheated even once. You notice that your clothes fit better, that you are stepping a little livelier, and as far as you're concerned, all's right with the world.

But then you step on that evil construction of the Devil himself, the bathroom scale, and you instantly feel betrayed. The stupid thing insists that you have done nothing! Sometimes, it even states you have done less than nothing; it accuses you of cheating because it tells that you haven't lost any weight! Well, there area couple of simple explanations to help you get through this trying time.

First of all, if it is at all possible for you to do so, throw that insipid Monster Scale in the trash. Or at least put it up somewhere that it is really, REALLY inconvenient to get to so that you won't be tempted to ask it's opinion every single day of your life. Face it. If you are feeling better and your clothes are looser, do you really need the scale to tell you that you're on the right track? No! You don't! Why do you think you do it, then? I'll tell you why. The low fat diet demons have a tenacious hold on your brain. That's right, you've been brainwashed. All your life they have told you through doctors, dietitians, newspaper and magazine articles, surgeon generals and the like, that you give up X calories per day and you will lose a pound of fat. They even go on to tell you how much fat you should lose each week. In the process, they've made you dependent on the Monster Scale to gauge your progress!

What a big lie!

Even on the diets that "they" advocate, the Monster Scale does not often cooperate. You go back to the Diet Demons and demand to know why the scale does not reflect the torture you have put yourself through for a month. They immediately start backpedaling on the "give up X calories and lose a pound of fat" story, and start talking to you about water retention and muscle buildup. Sometimes, they even blame it on you with questions like, "Are you sure you counted the calories in everything you ate?" (This is delivered with a knowing little smile that makes you want to rip their knowing little face off.) Being the type that is given to blaming things on yourself, anyway, you cooperate with an answer like, "Well….." They pounce on this with "Ahhhh, well.." Then, they launch into one of their scoldings/lash/encouragement speeches.

So, get off their bandwagon, already!

Then, there's the competitive spirit. You hear about what other people have done on your chosen diet. Yes, Brian went on Atkins a year ago and lost over a hundred pounds. Yes, a hundred pounds in a year is over eight pounds a month, or 2 pounds a week, or .0119 pounds per hour….but, "Hello? You ain't Brian!" And, did Brian ever say that he lost .0119 pounds per hour? No! He said a hundred pounds in a year. This only proves he got on the scale twice; a year ago, and yesterday. Take a hint from Brian. Stay off the scale!

The second solution is to understand what is going on in your body in light of the current state of human affairs. Today, all a person has to have to eat every day is money and transportation to a grocery store or, better yet, a nice restaurant. However, your body's survival instincts have not matured in a million years. Your body still thinks you are a hunter-gatherer. Yes, in spite of a million years of evolution, your body still thinks you are going to have to go out and kill a mammoth to eat. The survival instincts with which you are going to have to come to terms are read-only memory. You can't overwrite them. Deal with it.

That said, let me tell you what happens when you lose a pound of fat. Your body has been saving this fat for that long hunting expedition you're going to have to go on to track, kill, dress and retrieve that huge animal. It keeps the fat in little pillows distributed throughout your body. When you start losing fat, it doesn't trust you to continue whatever insane path you have chosen that is causing the fat to dissipate. So, when the fat comes out of the pillow, it injects water as a "place holder." Sometimes that water actually replaces the weight of the fat it lost. Sometimes it replaces the volume.

Water weighs more than fat just like lead sinkers weigh more than feathers. If you stuff a pillow with a pound of feathers, you'll have a nice big pillow. If you stuff a pillow with a pound of lead sinkers, you'll have a nice (but rather hard and uncomfortable), small pillow. Now, let's say your body removes a pound of fat and replaces the weight with a pound of water. Your weight will stay the same, but you will be smaller. But, if your body decides to replace the lost fat by volume, that is a quite different story. Remember the great big feather pillow as compared to the tiny lead sinker pillow? Well, now think of a gallon of feathers and a gallon of lead sinkers. Try to pick up the gallon of feathers. Piece of (you'll pardon the expression) cake. Now, try to pick up the gallon of lead sinkers. Sucker's heavy, ain't it? So, you will be smaller, but you will have gained weight.

Eventually, your body makes the executive decision that you are not going to replace the fat you lost, and it lets go of the water. In the words of Danny Skaist: "When your body accepts the fact that they are no longer needed, the water will be expelled and the cells closed. This is known as the "whoosh."

What makes your body decide to replace by weight or replace by volume? I dunno. But I do know that it does not seem consistent to the casual observer. What makes your body decide that you are seriously not going to replace the fat you lost? I dunno. But now you know why it's so important to drink your water, huh? Loss of fat is inextricably related to water intake. It's more than a little foolish to go on a diet that facilitates the removal of fat and then refuse to give your body the tools it needs to do so.

Bottom Line: Stop getting on the scale and drink your water. If you stick to your plan and wait for the "whoosh," it will come.

Swimm1975, I am sorry you had to go out all wet in you bathing suit. Did you get some muscle pain, ear pain or just a feeling of having a cold after that? On TV the other night, I saw some Russians breaking the ice to go for a quick dip in the water. They always say it is healthy but it is only for a few minutes and they are moving!

Oh thank god I found this thread! I am not sure how to stay on this post so if someone could help me out I would appreciate it. I find the navigation on this site pretty confusing. I feel so betrayed by my body, as I child I ate like a truck driver and was so skinny my knees stuck out. As an adult, I eat like a bird and look like a porker. I am so sick of sitting out parties and always worrying about food. I have tried (often successfully) every diet in the book, but the weight just comes back with a vengeance. I have recently purchased a treadmill and am trying to jog or cycle every night - hope that does something for me. I am having a bad day, but am so glad that I found more tiny gals out there.

CalicoCat..haha no I am not showing any signs of pneumonia or anything like that....now that I look back on it, its kind of funny, but it sure wasn't at the time. Welcome Melody and Leafpeeper! This is an awesome thread!

I am just getting caught up and am kind of discouraged since I haven't lost any weight this week...then I read that great article.....now I just have to wait for the whoosh fairy! It WILL happen! I have been skiing 4 days this week, and DH thinks I might be building up muscles again in doing so, and that the muscles weigh more than the fat. I just started doing my measurements today, so it should be interesting to see the results in another week....I just have to be patient.

I am 4'11" and that is really short! I started out at 210 on june2 ,2003 and today is jan. 24th 2004 and I have lost 71 pounds! I am so happy that I kept going on this WOE, because if I had not I would be way over 210 by now. I do feel better and so many compliments also...people ask waht happened to the other half of me! I say she is gone....hopefully for good! It is hard being short in the world of losing weight I can say that for sure! But keep strong and don't let those carb creep foods into your life :nono:

Hey.............I'm a shorty here also!! LOL!

5' 3" and kinda stuck at 142! I'd really like to get down to about 120, but so far it just doesn't seem to want to go beneath 142! Rats! I think part of it is my age....50! My metabolism sucks and I have had a tough time getting back into physical exercise due to a old injury...broken shoulder.

I know, excuses, excuses. I've been doing the Atkins since last May and I plan to stick with it for the long term. Hopefully, when Spring comes I'll get more exercise gardening and working with dogs.

Good luck all you shorties out there! Just keep pluggin' away at it! If you're a young *whipper snapper* keep in mind that the older you get the harder it is to take it off............so get with it NOW! It really creeps up on you while you're not looking and the VOILA! one day you're middle aged and pudgy! LOL!

I finally lost all the weight I gained over the holidays. What a relieve! I was so afraid I would never go down again! I didn’t expect it too be so long and so hard. I had a hard time getting back on track after the holiday, I was missing sugar so much! Now I see Valentine’s Day coming and I am not sure what I will do with that.

Calico Cat, I know what you mean....seems we go from one holiday to the next, and girl scout cookies inbetween! Yes, there are others trying to go below 120. I'm also barely over 5'. My goal is approximately 118. Right now I'm around 127, down from 131. My average weight since about 9th grade (I'm 43) was around 138 until about 4 years ago. I got my weight down eating low fat and exercising but in the last year my body decided it could not only live on 1200 calories a day, it could *gain* on that amount. Seemed pretty unfair to me so I'm trying Adkins. I'm pretty active competing in long distance racing on horseback...50 and 100 miles, and need to stay a weight that makes it easier on my knees and my horse. Also, I now have daughters my height and I can save a lot of money if I can share their clothes!

I can understand someone who needs to lose 50 lbs. thinking 10 it trivial but when it's the difference between happy and unhappy it matters.

Rides2Far, on a small body, every pound counts. We are all here to help each other, no matter how much or how little you want to loose.

Ranger, I need to try that! Given that DH’s favourite chocolates are Lindor and he likes to let it slowly melt in his mouth, I bet I would actually eat more chocolate than him this way ;)

Haven't posted to this thread for awhile...nice to see it active. I agree with ride2far...10lbs is alot on a 5ft body! I was holding around 132 for the longest time...had a weight gain and am on the way back down holding in around 137. I am aiming for 120's I found that with exercise 124 was an ok weight. not skinny but felt much better and trimmer... I can't wait!

Glad to read about all the new people! Nice to have a group that understands the height issue with weight! Every little bit lost helps. (unfortunately every bit gained really shows.

Ranger.....I really have no secrets at all except to keep on track at all times. In the 7 months that I have been LCing I have only cheated 1 time(honestly), and that was a half a piece of pie.I am a very strict one that is for sure. I am so afraid of gaining any of this back that I do weigh every morning. I know a lot of people would say "your not suppose to do that" but I have found out thru this that if this is going to be MY WAY OF LIFE, I have to do things that work for me. Granted it may not work for everyone, but everyone has 'there' way. I do not deprive myself either of food I may want especially sweets. I let myself have some a few times a week...they are always LC or SF but it is the way I keep up with myself and things I like. Some people do stall with treats but as long as I don't go over board...I am keeping on track. The first 4 months I walked between 2-3 miles a day, but since the snow fell in Minnesota and the roads are icy most of the time I have not walked but excersised at home with the Leslie Santone DVD. Once it is nice again I will be out walking :agree: I have so many forum friends on this site to thank also for listening to questions or food problems I had with recipes and such....this forum is a BLESSING  :agree:  :agree:

Hi, Melody
It sounds like you and I have a long road ahead of us to meet our goals, but you just take it one day at a time. It is terrible to be short and heavy, tall people never seem to look as bad as we do. I use to say I needed to sue the city for raising the sidewalks. I've lost 30 pounds since the first of October, 2003. I take alot of medication which slows me down but the weight keeps coming off. The old saying about not gaining the weight in a day, so don't expect to loose it in a day still holds true I guess. If you get any tasty recipes, please pass them on and let me hear from you and we'll try to bolster each others moral and keep Atkin's humming along. You can reach me at rgrzy~ponyexpress.net. I'm a newby and would like to hear from all of you for support.Hope everyone has a nice week.

This is a great forum. Whenever I feel grumpy with Atkins (I have a sweet tooth) I come here and get refreshed. But I desperately need some sweet dish recipes which are suitable for induction! -- And we do not have Sucralose (Splenda) available here in the shops, so that makes everything so difficult. Ah well, that is life....

Happy LCing everyone, I am so happy that this thread is moving again.

Hi, everyone!! I am 5'3 and 132 lbs. I was 162 in september. My goal weight is not in the 1_teens though. I have fairly large breasts and went down only 1 size after losing 30 lbs! I don't think they're going to get much smaller, because the smallest i ever was was 127 and they were still a large D. So , I made my goal weight to what I THINK will mean I will have the least fat on my belly. There's about 3/4 inch left. I found these SF popsicles at Target (you can buy them other places I'm sure). The name is Blue Bell SF Bullets. They do contain Aspartame, and have 4 total grams of carbs, but two are sugar alcohols. Read up on them before you buy because I dont know where the extra 2 carbs come from. I am eating one right now, maybe I should read up on them!! Anyway, the point was, they always cure my sweet tooth!! Oh, and trident or that other SF gum friutburst or something! Nice talking to you guys!!

Hi fellow petites!

I'm doing fine. Was 138.5 this morning, 1.5 down from my last sunday weight but still 1.5 up from my lower...Oh well!

Melodie, Honeypie...regardless of the weight we want to loose, I guess we all need to focus on the long haul. Most of us didn't became fat for our healthy habits, so we need to work on them.

Munia, I know that sometimes get difficult to lowcarb outside US, Canada and other countries. When I have problems to get Splenda I use sacharine (not sure how to spell it en english). Seems to be healthier than Nutrasweet or Sweet and Low and better of, it helps with sugar cravings.

HI Ranger...don't get discouraged..my weigh in is tomorrow.. and last week I was up almost 3 pounds, but clothes fitting looser...it could be just that your body is holding onto water so keep on drinking!!! And if your exercising (or live in a warm climate...HA!) they say to drink extra....
I have two obstacles in my way this weekend. Or should I say challenges. I am going to dinner Fri. night with family at "Bucca Di Beppo's" some big chain Italian restarant..and then to a party Sat. night..I'm scared!!! What will I eat at the Italian place??? Im not afraid of giving into to pasta at all, since I do not miss the carbs, but I am not sure what else is safe to eat besides meatballs!!!! Oh yeah and they serve family style from what I understand, that means massive heapings of food...!!!!! Hope everyone has a good day and keep checking in if you feel discouraged!!!

Hi everbody!!! Well, I survived my Italian restaurant visit and am here to tell about it. If anybody here lives near a "Buca di Beppo" and enjoys Italian, you must go! I don't want to give it all away, but the deck the place out in the tackiest "Italian" decor you can imagine..with fringes and tasteless 1960's lamps...there's even a "Pope" room...anyway I can attest to this, being Italian, I wondered if they had seen the insides of my grandmoms and aunts house and picked up on their decor...anyway, I had veal marsala with a salad and meatballs and sausage. I shooed away the garlic bread (which came in a PIZZA PIE plate, everything is served in family style quantities) and didn't even go for the cheesecake. To make a long story short, if you can stand the torture of not being able to eat much on the menu, go there and enjoy it. They have lemon chicken also which I did not try. And that concludes my restaurant review for today. Haha...you all are were in my thoughts as I was there actually, it made it easier to remove all the croutons from my salad as I thought about posting here. OK anyway have a great weekend....

The skiing was great! It was sunny today and got up to about 20 degrees by 1 pm....DH and DD came along today. We ran into some folks we know with a 6 year old daughter, our Christina is almost 5, and we skiied with them most of the afternoon...it was really fun, but when the sun started to go down, the wind picked up and it was really getting me chilled.

Stuck to it all, just had a decaf coffee for lunch though, as the smaller lodge on the west side of the mountain, didn't offer much in the way of lo carb!

On the way home we stopped in a pizza place, and I had a chef's salad with a small scoop of chicken salad on top....I have to say that I was really craving a hot bowl of soup, but it was creamy tomato, and I didn't want to blow it!
When we got home I nuked my little strawberry cheesecake concoction, but it kind of disintegrated....it tasted ok though....DH liked my version of a strawberry cheesecake pie, so that was good...I love to bake, but it is so hard when you want to taste something!!! Oh well, hope the whoosh fairy stops by soon!.

Swimm1975, sounds like you made some excellent choices at the Italian restaurant...it sounds like a fun place! My next door neighbors growing up were Italian, and the restaurant's decor sounds just like their house! LOL...they were wonderful neighbors too!
We can all do this together!!!

Take care my petite friends!

Hi petite friends!
So proud of all of you! Congratulations for all your healthy and wise choices. :thup:We go girls!
Goat cheese is my favorite cheese on earth, I prepare it with onions, olives and peppers in olive oil... yummy.
I have doing good food wise, but I drank 2 glass red wine yesterday and 1 today... No more wine for the weekend ;)

Hi Dora,

I have a freezer full of goat cheese....I like what you mix with it....do you have a favorite recipe? My goats will start kidding in Mid March...so then I will be making more....a never ending cycle! I love to make cheese.

Going to try snowshoeing this afternoon...that should be interesting! Then working and then watching the Super Bowl...go Patriots!.....(truthfully I watch it for the funny commercials!) My DH is the football fan...

Have a wonderful lo-carb day! (I can't drink at all on Atkins....I stall forever it seems!) I never drank that much anyway, and if I have one beer or one glass of wine my face turns bright red, and I get silly!!! I guess I am a cheap date! LOL

Hi Petites!

Where is everyone?

It snowed 36 hours straight and very cold today. Of course my kids love it but I am growing a bit weary of the winter.

I have drank so much water for the past four days I think I am floating... When does the potty patrol slow down?

I got to go to the Outback Steakhouse on Saturday for my birthday and did great. What a yummy place to eat. I did have a little bit of vanilla ice cream....hey it was for my birthday  I did have the lightbulb moment telling my family I didn't want to celebrate my actual birthday with cake and ice cream rather go bowling or doing something fun.

Hope everyone has a great week and I am trying to stay positive with the fact this is the third week of no weight loss.

Hi Paula and Lynn,
I was wondering where everyone went too? They must be out shoveling snow! It is hitting here this afternoon too...I think it is supposed to snow all week! I like snow though....been skiing 3-4 times a week lately, but finally...drumroll please.....dropped another lb! It took a while, but finally happened again...I hope the whoosh fairy hangs out here for a while.

I had hoped to be down to 180 by March, but now am hoping for 195.....more realistic anyway.

I have been sticking to it, and have noticed that my rings are looser and I can get my engagement ring off my finger now...I also lost an inch off my bustline and and inch off my hips....so at least something is moving if not the scale! LOL

Lynn, that cauliflower is really great isn't it? The havarti sounds good too....I love cheese!

Happy be-lated birthday Paula, sounds like you did well at the Outback steakhouse...

Take care everyone! Stay out of the snow!
We can do this together!

Paula I am sooooo jealous. We all want snow in the worst way. (We used to live in Nebraska) We have 40degree weather many days so allergies are here. UGH

Way to go everyone on the weight loss. You are doing great.
Bet it feels great to lose 9 in one week! WOW
