Can I have any alcohol? I hate dry wine. What about vodka with diet soda?

Not sure about the specifics of the plan you are following, but I would steer clear of alcohol for a few weeks until your body adjusts to your new way of eating. If you are going to drink alcohol anyways, stick with rum or vodka and diet sodas.

I would stick with the grain alcohols, like vodka. Rum is just sugarcane which has been fermented. I believe some whiskeys are also fermented with sugar. But then again, vodka with club soda/seltzer and a twist of lemon is my favorite drink.....lol. I don't know the specifics of your particular plan but some plans don't allow alcohol while others allow it after the first few weeks.

I would wait at least a couple of weeks before I introduced it. My husband has a 6 pack of beer in the fridge right now which I an dying to have one. I'm being good though and drinking my diet green tea sweetened with splenda. Who knows what the next hour might bring though.....lol. I'm not going to beat myself up over one or two beers because it's going to happen from time to time in the future. Especially with the summer coming as I have a nice enclosed yard which I love to sit in. I set up my little kiddie pool, picnic table, and a couple of lounge chairs and I'm a happy camper. Ohhh....can't forget the radio!! I also live by the beach so I tend to get a little more company down here in the summer.

Well.......just my thoughts.

Every time I drink, it stalls me.

Actually, protien power suggests not sticking with hard alcohol and instead drinking wine. If you have a copy of Protein Power, I suggest checking out the section titled "Bottoms Up: Wine and Spirits" (In my copy, it's page 105, but I know they've re-released the book under a red cover and that may have this on a different page).

According to Protein Power:

"If you like, have a glass of dry, not sweet, white or red wine with one of your meals."

and

"Moderate means a glass of wine or two - no more - with one meal. Wine does have some carbohydrate content left after the fermentation process, so the drier the wine, the fewer grams of carbohydrates it will contain"

and

"Distilled spirits, while they contain scant to no carbohydrates - it's all been turned to alcohol - tend to raise insulin and to impair insulin sensitivity if consumed in more than modest quantities. In general, avoid distilled alcohol during your intervention, except for an occasional cocktail containing a single ounce of distilled liquor, straight, on the rocks, or in a mixed drink (no sweet mixers allowed)."

I think you have got to weigh it all for yourself........much like adding carbs untill it effects your diet results...

I posted this before, and will say it again!
But......please keep in mind this is what works for me... I do not have a drinking problem, but do drink socially, and have many socail events, I never on the other hand have a drink at home, or on a whim!

I have never denied myself.......Alcohol! If we go out socially I drink...Vodka and water w/lemon! Or a straight up-Vodka martini w/lemon!
It is one thing...to go out socially with friends and make special food orders at dinner, or pass on the Snack table..but, is sure is easier to nurse a nice drink while you do! Now..I hated the actually drink of choice.at the onset of Atkins.., I even added a wee bit of equal to it in the early days- (bartenders back then did not get it...so I carried a few packets with me) but, it is an acquired taste to be sure, much like scotch drinks, you learn to actually enjoy it without sweetener...and even after I went backsliding, down the road away from LC a couple years ago...I continue to this day to drink-Vodka and water w/lemon...!

I never felt it harmed my dieting, or goals...at all, the only thing I needed to watch was that alcohol does dehydrate a person....so, if you are out on the town, just alternate plain water...and a Vodka w/water...through out the evening!!

I know I am sounding like an alcholic, but I am talking about those special planned evenings out with a few couples or friends, you are blessed to sneak into your life- about twice a month if you are lucky.....they are just plain "Good" For the soul evening..!!
And, I loved not feeling the guilt......or percieving I cheated the next day!!
