I was just wondering if too much water can have negative effects? I've gone through 2 cases of water this week. I figured it out and it comes out to about an average of 115 fl. oz. a day. Is that too much water to drink in one day? That comes out to about 4.8 fl. oz of water an hour!! And you figure it you sleep for at least 6 hours, it's about 6.4 fl. oz. an hour. Gosh!!! No wonder why I feel like I'm going to float away. When I was low carbing last year, it was like pulling teeth to get me to drink water. This time around, it's like all I drink besides my coffee in the morning and an occassional glass of 0 carb flavored seltzer.
I'm wondering if I should lower my water intake and what would be the minimum amount of water you should drink for it's positive effects?
Thanx,
Patty

I am sorry I cannot help you, but I'm wondering the same myself...
I actually get extremely cold when I drink water. I know water is supposed to work with your body temperature but my hands are ice cold the whole day. Does anybody knows why?

Yes, it is possible to drink too much water. How much is too much? During normal everyday living, I don't know. Unwary athletes under exertion can drink too much water and dilute their electrolytes (potassium, for one) and disrupt their body functions. Not good.
Low-carb advice? Drink ounces of water equivalent to half your body weight each day. 150 lbs = 75 oz of water. No need to drown yourself.
Low body temperature and cold hands can be a symptom of low thyroid. You might want to check that out next time you see your doctor.

Never thought of the thyroid...thanks! :)
Oh, I just remembered I mentioned tom y doctor the drinking water and getting cold hands, he chuckled and said "well, drink warm water!.." still going to ask about the thyroid.

I don't care what Dr Atkins says but I do not believe in forcing water. I do drink 2 to 3 litres a day and make sure that I get 2 litres daily minimum.
I generally drink more then that in summer when it is hot.

I don't know about anyone else, but since I've started drinking 100 ounces a day I crave more water than I ever have. And after about a week my body got used to the extra water and I no longer have to stay in the bathroom every 12 mintues. LOL.
The one thing you do have to watch though when you drink a lot of water is the potassium and the salt because it's flushed out with a lot of water if I recall right. But those are easily put back in.
I know a few diets that say 100 ounces of water a day is optimal to keeping your body's metabolism up.

Should I be taking extra potassium then? I would hava a banana but the carbs are way too high for one little sneaky piece of fruit.......lol. I found that out the hard way the last time I was low carbing. And it doesn't even satisfy any cravings for me. I was wondering what kind of supplements I should be taking. Should I be taking Vit. C also. I always though Vit. C was a water soluable vitamin. Heck.......I don't even know what foods I'm getting Vit. C from? Does spinach have Vit. C in it?

I was talking to my big Sis yesterday about the very same thing ... and she told me that her Doctor told her it was very possible to drink to much water ... and he told her that one way that it will show up is in swollen feet & legs he told her it is just gravity that takes place ... it has to go someplace.

I don't think it has a chance to even get to my feet and legs. I spend the whole day in the bathroom............

I drink anywhere from 50 to 100 oz of water while I'm at work and don't have any problems. Add in the water I drink in the am and when I get home and I'm well into 120+oz.
You can drink too much water... if you were to try and guzzle 100 oz of water in less than a half hour. Taking in that much water over the course of a day won't hurt you. You might wear a path in the carpet but it's fine.

A multivitamin should cover all your bases. :)
Salt you get from the basic foods you eat and more so if you used canned. A multivitamin should provide you with enough potassium.
If you want to know more just do a net search on the topic. That's how I found out. :)

I would say that as long as you are not guzzling the water all at once you aren't having too much. 1/2 oz per pound of body fat means I need to drink 120 oz, which I never get to.
But don't down a whole quart at once (like, gulping the whole bottle in a few minutes), you can definitely deplete your electrolytes that way.

I can down 32 oz in one sitting usually and be fine. I find also if I drink all my water in the morning then I'm less likely to be up all night. I still drink if I get thirsty though, which usually happens.
