Hello All,

I've just finished 3 weeks of low-carbing but find myself feeling so exhausted at times that I feel like crawling back into bed and not moving.

The first week was the worst, the second day I found myself feeling so tired I found it hard doing anything simple, like fixing dinner. It had gotten a little better but I noticed it again yesterday.

I'm hypoglycemic and I'm wondering if the low-carbing is causing strange things with my insulin levels.

My energy levels are zapped. Any ideas of how to remedy this would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Deb

I had the exact opposite experience. Chronic fatigue before LC -- up at 5 AM after starting LC.

Perhaps you should post *everything* that you ate and drank today.

I have been taking Oil of Oregano for my chronic fatigue, and it has been helping... I must say that I take the liquid which is extremely strong...awful taste...but the cheapest medicine I have taken in years!!! Also Coconut Oil is another thing that has helped me immensely...

Deb,

Are you taking in enough calories?

I have a friend on this forum (locarbbarb) who has hypoglycemia, and she says she cannot go too low on carbs. She will end up exhausted, not sleeping good, and having nightmares. I was surprised to find out that hypoglycemia can be a symptom of candida.

Hi Deb!

What a coincidence! I just did a search on hypoglycemia, and found this thread. Jen just mentioned me!

Yes, I have hypoglycemia, and when I have very low carbs, <50 or so, I have absolutely no energy! Even one day leaves me drained. I love the feeling of having my appetite reduced on low carbs, but the energy issue is the challenge.

I find if I have about 60 - 70g of carbs a day, spread over the course of the day, I'm fine. I was having steel-cut oats for breakfast with about about 1.5 tsp of coconut oil and a whey protein drink to balance it, and would still feel sleepy after about 30 min to an hour.

I have discovered apple cider vinegar. I take one Tbs. in 2 cups of water about 10 min before I eat that breakfast, and I have no hypoglycemic reaction at all. I recently read about a study that discovered the insulin stablilizing properties of apple cider vinegar.

Also, if I have too few carbs, I can't sleep at night, and when I do, I have nightmares and scream and perspire heavily. After much research, I discovered that was from low blood sugar, too! So, now I have an Extend Bar as a snack about an hour before I go to sleep, and I sleep great, even if I dare to have only 25 g of carbs a day! (which I do every once in a while, just to shake things up a bit! )

You can click on MY PLAN and Extend Bar links at the bottom of my signature to see what I'm doing.

Lately, I haven't been following my plan very well, and haven't been exercising for several reasons. So, my weight has been maintaining for about a month. I'm back on track now, so I hope to see some results soon.

BTW, for me to lose weight, I have to exercise every day. I do approx. 30 min on the elliptical and I walk my dog for an additional 35 min.

Best wishes! :rose:

P.S. I took Oil of Oregano for 10 days just in case the hypoglycemia was from Candida. I don't think it cured the hypo., but I did feel something happening from the OoO (sleepiness, stomach rumbling) which I believe means it's working on something. I've had to take a nap in the middle of the afternoon for the last 3 days, so it might be from that. I finished the OoO today. I may try it again next month, and see what happens.

how much chromium are you taking per day?

chromium helps to level out your blood sugar.
